Really nice to see that we have a general manager that actually knows what he's doing. whether they trade back or not I believe they'll make the right decision
The best thing about this 2024 version of the Chargers is that Dean Spanos has taken his son John Spanos out of the football related decision making process and put real football people in charge. Trust Jim Harbaugh and Joe Hortiz! I hope they trade back.
That's not true. John is practically in charge while dean sits back and enjoys the benefits of being an owner
@krt1135 no bro Jim & Joe are in complete control. You must not know bout Jim Harbaugh for you to say that. But Dean is just sitting back fasho
@@krt1135 You should make sure you take your meds buddy! If you think they're paying Harbaugh $16 million and let him hand pick his entire staff and his GM ( bc he picked him too) to let his goofy son f it up, you're nuts!😂😂😂😂
Amen
@@krt1135 John still has his title “President of Football Operations” but his authority is limited. He still has oversight of what he’s qualified for like the food catering and cheerleaders.
Could listen to Money read the newspaper every morning, the best out there.
Totally agree ⚡️
@@Lbsmith94 we are so blessed to have him call our games and have him do these podcasts. Can’t even imagine what it’ll be like if/when we are good and getting blessed with these pods
Much respect and love for Matt Money but no one is gonna be able to convince me that Josh Lewin isn’t the greatest chargers play-by-play announcer ever, so much passion and hype
@@dannyavalos5092 there’s a reason Money does all these tournaments too and the dodgers and use to do the lakers 🤷♂️ I’m just biased lol I just love him

Being in AFC West it's important we get a top receiver. It would be great if we picked one at 5 yet Rams got amazing Puka Nacua in 5th round last year. If there's another Puka this year.. Harbaugh knows who that is!!
Tahj Washington? Luke McCaffery? Johnny Wilson? I'm hoping they take two WR or Bowers and one of the 3rd, 4th or 5th round guys
Agreed. Don't give up on our TCU boy!
Here's what's missing in this context, Harbaugh is working with Hortiz who worked at Baltimore.
Baltimore, in the last number pf years, selected:
Zay Flowers in 2023
Rashid Bateman in 2021
Marquise Brown in 2019
Breshad Perriman in 2015
Tory Smith in 2011.
And that's just the 1st rounders.
Not really great WRs on this list but most likely Baltimore Never had a top 5 if not even a top 10 picks all those years so most likely they were not the top receivers in their draft class.. it’s a no brainer this year.. MHJ if not him Nabers
@@ruddthebest the point is that they kept taking stabs at picking WRs, mostly because they had to, and that shows that, at least Hortiz, is not adverse to picking a WR, despite everyone saying that's not something that Harbaugh would do, which is really hard to say since he and Baalke had issues in SF.
@@ruddthebest Well, when you got a RB , playing the QB spot , stats WILL be down !
@@ruddthebestwow. I'm so glad you weren't in the draft room to put that dumb opinion into the universe.
Cmon Matt, you're killing me with this WR at 5 talk. No one on this roster is a true number 1 receiver. Niners under Harbaugh and Ravens never had a true number 1 receiver and it came back to haunt them. You can play smash mouth football all you want but we havent had that explosive element in this offense for 10+ years. We need a #1 receiver
Thank you Money. Thought I might be the only person who was listening to Jim Harbaugh's initial press conference.
We are going to run the balll and play tough defense.
If MHJ is there at 5 we'll get more picks for him to plug holes we need to fill. Get ready for Rock'em Sock'em Football!! Its gonna be beautiful. There are more than 20 competent WR's in this draft. Justin needs to be on his feet to throw the ball. Build our trenches, we need corners desperately and LB's and another RB. We need to be a complete team to win.
Another kindred spirit preaching Coach's plan - thank you!
Scenario: it's 3rd and 2. We run, great play! Oops, HOLDING. 3rd and 12. We punt because we have no one who can win 1 on 1 vs a good defense. Jim is no fool. Not passing up on MHJ if he's there. Anything else, trade down
It's gotta be MHJ or trade down a couple spots and take Nabers. At some point, you need your WR's to win 1 on 1. We all wanted Coach Harbaugh and understand the style of play he brings. Awesome stuff, no doubt! But eventually we will be in 3rd and long, I get we no longer need a great recieving core, but we do need ONE great receiver.
I would be surprised if this run first, hit you in the mouth team takes a WR in the first round. We need to shore up the Oline, get a young powerful RB and we have secondary issues. We can trade down collect more picks and grab a manageable WR in the 3rd
18:32. I want him to do his thing after picking Nabers at 5 😂😂
If you want to stay with one team your whole career, you must take team friendly deals...
Exactly we showed we will pay when you earn it but as you get older or injure you have to do tm friendly deals. Tom Brady did until he finally wanted to get paid and left to tampa
I’m fine with trading back. But if we stay at 5, the pick has to be WR.
It doesn't but I'm feeling where you are coming from.
Welcome back Chris!!! 😁😁⚡️ thank you both for the awesome content!!!
I knew this was coming.
When Harbaugh got the job, he was going to clean house.
Sorry, we lost the equivalent of two first round receivers this year. It has to be addressed early or team dynamics will be even worse than last year. Mike Williams went down and the entire fizz in our Soda Pop disappeared on offense. Right now we are for sure a 4-13 team before the draft. Top Tier receivers are $25+ mil in the open market.
That was a different offense though. I agree with you we do need #1 wr but we would be fine with just 1 elite guy and 3 other average but good blocking wrs.
Love you to death Money. Really do. But I couldn’t disagree with you more about the WR position. Harbaugh absolutely places a lot of value in that position. Really take a look at what he did in SF. He had Michael Crabtree. Then he went out and got Anquan Boldin. He spent a 1st round pick on AJ Jenkins. He signed an aging Randy Moss. It’s just that he doesn’t have to have a LOADED WR room to win games. Come on, dude.
That was 10 years ago though so will be interesting to see if he still values the position the same way or if his philosophy has changed with his time at Michigan. Either way we will find out pretty soon, exciting times ahead!
@@Fern25 I mean he was recruiting elite WR talents. They just went elsewhere for pass happy systems like OSU and LSU. For example, he recruited Marvin Harrison Jr. and Malik Nabers
Matt, yes!!!. So right on about the WR issue.
What if we end up in a situation where we have Easton Stick throwing to MHJ because our oline sucked again like last year and Herbert gets injured.
If Herbert gets hurt we won’t be competitive regardless 😂
The chargers have lacked good coaching and defense for a loooong time.. so far I really like what’s happened in free agency.. now let’s draft defense and get better
if MHJ is on the board at 5 then we should take him over Nabers
Man, I'm already sick of hearing about Keenan. The guy has yet to say word 1 to the fans who supported him for a decade. See yah, later. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.
Good to have Chris back!
The Chargers have so many needs, I will not be at all surprised if they trade down, regardless of who is on the board.
Keenan Allen was picked number 76 (3rd round) and Travis Kelce was picked up in the same third round of the draft in 2013. There are a lot of good players, especially wide receivers, who will still be around in this draft. No worries, mate, we got this.
Leading up to last year's draft, when I kept hearing about the stacked TE class, I kept hearing about this Brock Bowers guy coming up next year who is potentially better than all of these guys.... but of course, I thought like most other people... they have to take a tight end this year because they will never be high enough in the draft next year to take Bowers. Well, here we are. It almost feels like we are destined to take Bowers. I can't wait to see how this plays out. I am kind of hoping Minnesota trades up with the Chargers, and they have the opportunity take Bowers at 11 and JPJ at 23.... that would be 1 great outcome in my opinion. Then go get a corner, a receiver and RB in the next 3 rounds
Thank you for an awesome update guys!
Build the engine, wouldn’t be sad about a trade down for RT and JPJ. Twist your mind around and get excited about big, dominant, sexy, trench warfare
Deez dudes sound sus bro, you take TBPA! And if Harrison Jr is sitting there at 5 you take him. Period!⚡️
No way in HELL that they don’t go MHJ/Nabers at 5!!! Would be the worst decision ever!
Nice pod guys! Excited times
Great stream!! I like Harbaughs ideas build through the Trenches! Bowers is a Harbaugh guy! He can block on the run milti role athlete..
Now dudes are saying is okay to pass on the player that most people have at number 1 in the draft lol
How Jim Harbaugh plays and coaches football. I realize he wants to run the ball and play defense. But I don't want to waste Justin Herbert's youth in a run first and most team. I grew up in the Air Coryell era. I like that style of offense. But I want to win. So let's hope for the best.
I love watching you two. It's refreshing to get an honest non overreaction take. I just can't stand watching fan podcasts and it's constant whining, complaining, bitching and moaning. Thank you!
Gonna miss Keenan. He Means Alot to the team...and If Money says to relax/ trust the process. Thats what im doing!! 🤘🤘😏 ⚡️⚡️Bolt Up⚡️⚡️
Harbaugh and Hortiz will build from the inside out. Expect early draft picks to be spent on OL and DL first. WR will come later. There are good WRs to be had in rounds 3-5 in this draft. Harbaugh zigs when everyone else zags.
💯 🎯 !!! Nailed it
Hortiz himself said you draft best player available. Definitely going to be WR
Pick the best player at 5. Whether that be nabers or MHJ. We will not regret that
There are a few things I think we all need to keep in mind as we head into the draft. 1. This coaching staff is legit. They know they can take subpar players and squeeze every little bit of ability out of them. Losing Keenan isn't awesome but they'll pivot in the draft. 2. Harbaugh knows the players coming out for the next 2 - 3 years. Of course he'd like studs, but it looks like he and Hortiz have opted for a broader group of competent players rather than spending huge amounts on 4 players. 3. Harbaugh approach leans big time into controlling the trenches and running the ball. I expect that to be the focus. 4. Hortiz has stated, and history shows, take the best player available. If that's Marvin Harrison Jr...there you go. Trade back to get draft capital, fill as many holes as possible. That looks like the approach. And the free agent signings have been geared towards minimizing need before going into the draft.
You could say that WR is a huge need. But maybe not if Harbaugh is refocusing the philosophy towards a run first offense. Maybe they take guys in the 3rd and 4th. RB is definitely going to be addressed. Line too but what does that look like with a coaching staff known for developing lesser talents? That's the big question
I think wether we take MHJ, Nabers, or trade down we're in an awesome spot this draft. I think its going to take a lot of effort to make an incorrect decision in round 1, and that gives me a lot of comfort. I would be shocked if what Jim and Joe did wasn't at minimum good
I was like #420😂⚡️
If they let Herbert go I don’t think I’d be able to be a charger or football fan anymore cause I won’t go to any other team .
Why would we let him go 😂😂😂😂😂😂
That would never ever happen
Cracks me up, that no matter how many times Money says Chargers don't need a WR, Chris keeps mentioning them. 🤣
Im trusting the process. If Vikings offer 11,23 and something else, take it in a heartbeat. Hell, even just the two firsts. Get a top CB and a top tier RT. Target WR in the 2nd or 3rd. CB, RT, WR, LB, DT, TE, RB. Thats the target. Plug up these holes with starting caliber players on rookie deals. Idgaf about a top tier WR anymore. I wanna see Herbo racking up W’s not yds only. BOLT TF UP!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Hands-down they need to take Brock Bowers. I don’t care at what point in the draft. Last year they should’ve taken his running mate Darnell, Washington, who is now a steeler. The two of those guys together would’ve made this running game incredible and Washington would’ve helped the team last year. But the front office and Stanley blew that one so Harbaugh and Ortiz need to take the tight end.
Bowers? The Chargers kept Parham and just signed two more TEs the past two weeks. You arent paying Dissly $14 million and then paying Hurst and Parham to sit on the bench and watch Bowers lol. Stop being a casual.
Someone get homie on the right a microphone for Christmas. Things cost like $20 these days
I say we draft back and receive more picks, pick up a bunch of key players who can win now.
exactly. most of the losses were by 3 points with a lousy defense. FIX the defense, and you dont need to throw 40 plus times a game. Then, improve the running game to even league average, you eat clock, rest the defense, and wear down the other defense. AND, can drain the clock at the end forcing the other team to use their time outs and throw the ball to conserve clock. Then, you can pressure the QB as long as you dont give up the big play. contain deep, pressure the QB and force a mistake. let them dink and dunk and milk the clock. getting 2 good players is as good as getting one star player. ( trading down )
Don’t underestimate Chargers fans’ desire to win the QB narrative battle. The WR takes are highly motivated by Herbert vs Tua, Burrow, Allen, etc debates
This is an incredible take
The WR takes are motivated by the fact that our top 2 receivers are Quentin Johnston and Josh Palmer 😂😂
People are nuts if they think we're a playoff team this year lol! There's a lot of holes! Shout out to TT! Everyone is crying about KA! We won nothing with him , Mike and Ekeler they are all injury prone older players! I was a big fan of KA/MW, but it's time 4 change!!
A lot of holes? Where? We have signed two TEs, C, DT, LB and just signed a CB today. Pay attention.
They’re not signing Michael Thomas my guy… lmfao. Weird ass take.
Hunter Renfrow is worth a look.
I like these guys much better than the homer chargers Director.
Hypothetical: Top three qbs one through 3 and no Minnesota trade into top three. Arizona takes MHJ. You then trade down with Minnesota for 11, 23 and next years first or second. Do you trade down with Denver or Las Vegas to whoever wants to secure Bo Nix?
I would make them overpay. Same division tax lol. If they don't want to, keep the pick
I agree. Don't give it away for nothing. Broncos and Raiders possibly fight for the pick
The defense and the referees carried the Chiefs!
Hortiz struggled to find a playmaker in Baltimore I'm not convinced they'll just pass up an obvious blue collar player. Especially since I 'm sure they don't plan on having a top 5 pick again. Herbert still needs someone to fill the void that Keenan left. Palmer is a solid receiver but he is not a number option.
Trade back with Vikings and select Adonai Mitchell with their first round pick in the 20s. Grab a tackle with the 11th pick
Hoping we can use that 4th round Keenan trade to our advantage and trade up for top 3 RB. Or, would love to grab Bowers, but doesn't seem that way now that we recently signed 2 TEs. Also think the Vikings will trade up with Patriots for those 2 first rnd picks and we get 1st choice at WRs. The suspense is killing me 😟
No one hates you Matt. But if Nabors and MHJ are on the board and we pass them by to trade down and take a lineman and not even Bowers, Harbaugh and Ortiz better hope that dart they throw in round whatever hits a bullseye. Can you imaging the blow back if we end up with Quentin Johnson 1 and 2 while Nabors is having a 1500 yard season? That will not be pretty for our new GM. Because unless you are paying 30. Mill for a free agent, you will never be in position again to draft a Nabors and Bowers.
Was there reason why mack and bosa took a pay cut, other than doing it for the team to help them win. I mean taking millions of dollars away is kinda crazy. Was it as simple as they didnt want to get traded?
Bowers is not an NFL tight end
True. He's an NFL Offensive Weapon
Gotta fix that microphone feedback, Chris! It’s hard to listen with that high pitched ring 😂
this was better with popper because they wernt interrupting and talking over each other so much
Think we should move down and draft a CB and Brenden Rice
Nabers or MHJ at 5 unless Vikings trade the 11 and 23 picks plus a 4th
If Bosa is shown a game plan that's solid and makes sense instead of some Idiotic video game nonsense you will see him play to his potential. In order to win this team has to fix this O Line no two ways about it. if not Herbert won't last the year. Pretty sure Harbaugh understands this. The simple commonsense things are the key to winning. KC keeps going to the SB and winning most of them with this type of Mindset.
This team needed a reset and overhaul. Younger, faster & cheaper. I agree with Money that the chiefs defense helped carried them to the superbowl without WR's but the chargers don't have the best interior oline in the league, a top 3 defense and a HOF TE. The passing offense the last 4 years has been the most productive part of the team, apart from special teams since Ficken. The rest of the team will need to raise their game after the player drain in the passing game now.
It's players not plays in the big moments, lets hope they can start adding some of those type of players.
We need nabers explosiveness not mhj
The New England Patriots in the TB12 era had Randy Moss but with all do respect to his their old receiver room most were not elite in talent… just sayin’
Marvin harrison junior apparently has a Forty time above 46
He doesn't. High 4.4s low 4.5s
No chance they are taking a wide receiver first.
Palmer better be cheap cuz he’s a WR3 at best
I hope no one trades up with us. If we don’t get Nabors and do trade to 11, i will be happy only if its Bowers. I am tired of Herbert getting sacked or looking desperately for Keenan for ten yards because no one on this team gets open. Palmer is a 3 and Quentin is a bust. Throwing darts at a board hoping you will land a great receiver in later rounds is not a risk worth taking. We will end up with Quentin 1 and 2. BTW Matt, Justin has not won because of bad defenses and Staley. There is a reason DB’s have said they don’t fear Herbert, because he has a rocket arm and no one open to throw it too. So we get everyone crowding the line of scrimmage and we cannot run either. BTW, Odense is slow, get Nabors or Bowers.
Bowers makes more sense for a playmaker as a pick than a wr under this administration
Bowers? The Chargers kept Parham and just signed two more TEs the past two weeks. You arent paying Dissly $14 million and then paying Hurst and Parham to sit on the bench and watch Bowers lol. Stop being a casual.
Pls go back to San diego
I guess in hindsight, restructuring Keenan should have been done first, then Khalil and risk losing Joey. I understand the importance of the position he plays, but Tuli played great for a rookie last season. Though, I imagine they saw the players that would likely be available at 5 and thought it would be easier to replace a WR than an Edge. IMO, I would love to see them trade back with Minnesota. The more players we can bring in for the new regime, the better.
Keenan vs washed slant man haha bad take money. Tyler Boyd better option. Dobbins is a fine flyer but the injuries are a concern
They say the same thing for 20 mins straight
Keenan was great, but not better than Alworth or Joiner.
It was a different game back than I didn't have the pleasure of watching those guys but it's hard to say Keenan isn't the best wr ever for Bolts his stats say so.
If a Marvin Harrison Jr falls into Jim Harbaugh lap at pick 5 and he moves back to takes a Brock Bowers instead of a Marvin Harrison Jr that would be jts STOOPID!!! Especially if he's trying to win in todays NFL..Yeah he had the TE Vernon Davis in San Francisco but he loss In the Super bowl with Vernon Davis too He better adapt cuz the NFL stands for NOT FOR LONG..
Question, why do coaches always have gum in there mouth?
This isnt college or the 1970s, you arent winning anything playing smash mouth football in todays NFL, you need weapons and scoring. Stop with "who did the Chiefs have at WR" nonsense. The Chiefs have Mahomes, Kelce and Reid, all are top 3 all time greats at their positions., Chargers have nothing close to that. Besides, Kelce is better than most every teams WR1 anyways. Ask the Tennessee Titans (remember them?) how well playing smash mouth football works in the modern NFL. If you think you are going to be competitive in a division with Mahomes and Reid and a conference with Burrow, Allen, Lamar etc...while you trot Quinton Johnston (lol) out as your WR1, you are in for a rude awakening. Thats a 3-4 win team. You dont pass on generational talent like MHJ or even Nabers to draft lineman you can get in later rounds or free agency....
Nah lets stay away from Michael Thomas please. That dude's been a headcase for years now and his talent isn't worth it anymore
I never liked Keenan
Khalil must feel at home with the restructuring. ⚡️
Khalil Mack is more a Charger than he was a Raider😎
