I have been hooked on your videos for the last few weeks looking at getting started with renovating my lawn. Your videos and responding the all of the random questions I’ve posted has been much appreciated and very helpful!
I remember you starting that lawn Shaun, the time span and weather conditions 10 times better. I can only say to your customer, water water and water. 😮
5:58 Hey Shaun what I understand from the pictures on the Amazon page of the spreader, apparently the part that you rest your wrist can extend in to a position much like your previous spreader. Lovely video by the way, take care.
I had two small trees in my front lawn cut down after the roots grew into my sewer pipe. Really not fun! My neighbor helped me bury the tree parts in the lawn. Covered with top soil and sod. For years it looked good. Now part has sunken in. From your videos, I understand what to do about the sunken part. However, I'm not sure how to fix the part that is too high. How could I lower the mounds to make it more level with the rest of the lawn? I appreciate you sharing your knowledge! Thank you.
Great update, Shaun. 👏👏I had been looking forward to this one. The lawn looks super, it needed very little tweaks and I can imagine that by late summer it will look superb. Thanks as ever.
Hi Shaun NZ fan here again, I am working on a fertilizer plan going forward having just scarified, starter fertilizer, overseeded and compost top-dressed and roller. I'm keen to try spoon feeding Sulphate of ammonia regularly and I can't remember which video you mixed a spray mixture in. I'm looking at 2-3 grams m2 dissolved in warm water. No Emerald Green this side of world, can I add Seaweed tonics to the mix.? Thanks for all your great knowledge sharing
Hi Robbie, love these update videos. I also have very sandy soil. Do you have any recommendations on how to improve the soil a bit more? Would it be the same process as clay soil and use augur drill bit with some compost down the holes?
@@LawnRight Thanks, and thanks for taking the time to reply! How about if it's very compact? Worth using augur + filling with compost? Or just aerate as normal and apply thin layer of compost on top?
Hi no it's ifjr as long a syou are repeated to water very deeply for the next few weeks to aid recovery. It's already under stress with the heat so nay extra stress an it'll go white and look poor for a while
Try using a small paintbrush and brushing a strong mix of roundup directly onto the leaves. Might need a couple of applications but should do it eventually
It's got a deeper hopper so can be heavier if filled and this weighs on the wrist.. To be honest if you only half fill it it's fine, and the arm wrest can be adjusted further out (something I've not yet done 😊)
@@LawnRight Great, which fertilizer did you use? My new lawn was seeded 5 weeks ago and looking to fill in some bare spots. We used pre-seed fertilizer at the time so wondering which one I can apply now again that's suitable for both the seeds that were spread 5 weeks ago, and the new seed I plan on spreading soon for the bare spots.
Hi, it will seep through the fleece slowly, they are permeable, but some are better than others, and some have a bit of a newness on them that makes them less permeable at the beginning
Hello from Turkey. I also have similar bare spots in my lawn. I renovated the lawn in early April and everything was pretty fine. However, in recent weeks some root fungus popped up and I have lost some grass and ended up with some bare spots. Now, I am planning to overseed those areas but main concern here is the need to water it 3-4 times a day during this heat wave. Wouldn’t that frequent watering to keep the seed moist would invite more and more fungal diseases in these hot summer days? Thank you very much in advance.
Hi yes it would invite more sadly but with new seeds you don't have much choice. Try to avoid late evening watering and you will increase the success rate 😊
You'll need an ideal ho long it will take really. Every job is different and some may need more scarifying than others. I personally am quite cheap. So if a job takes an hour you'd want to charge a fee that covers your time, profitand wear and tear
I've inherited lots of dips I've got some topsoil over from Another project. I was disappointed with the topsoil as it's very sandy. Would this be suitable to level up these dips please?
Why do recommend morning watering when evening watering enters the ground during the coolest period overnight. Better chance of absorption and avoids sun up flash evaporation ?Doesn't apply on windy evenings but neither does it apply on windy mornings. All the best.
@@LawnRight thats a good point but does the disease increase outstrip the benefits of reduced waterloss in reality. I presume you have witnessed this because in the garden world watering in the morning heading into day is considered an evaporation waste. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Judging by your lawns you could be right 👍
@@saturnfivetwo4 honestly I wouldn't know the answer. It's just what I've always done. In all honesty disease pressure increases anyway through the season so if its going to get red thread it probably will anyway but whatever we can to minimise it is only a good thing

Just a quick Question. I put some A1 spring/summer fertiliser down on tuesday, when should i see results? As absolute 0 difference yet. Probably the stupidest question ever also, could i have watered it in too much?
Hi catch rain water is always better, but tap water is ok if left uncovered for a few hours for chlorine to evaporate. Choosing a sprinkler should be based on what shape your lawn is.. a round lawn would benefit from a rotating open while an oscillating one is good for rectangles.. an impulse sprayer is also pretty good
Thanks again for another great video. Just wondering…Is watering not best in the evening so water has time to penetrate the soil rather than evaporate in the morning? Thank you
Have you ever considered online consultations Shaun? I for one would be more than happy to pay for your time to have a video call walk round my lawns to get your expert advice & recommendations.
Hi - Quick question. Would weedol for lawns for killing off clover be ok to use after around 6 weeks after the lawn has been seeded? The back lawn I renovated is looking amazing now (albeit similar bare patches) but the front is great too but with clover, so trying to see what can be done to get rid of it in future (I’ll be killing it off next year and starting again). Any advice would be helpful.. :-) Lastly, you are a legend and a great content creator Shaun. Keep up the great work which inspires all of us to better our garden lawns!
hi yes 6 weeks is "usually" ok and that is what I often do with no issues (almost all of the time) - try and make sure the lawn is very happy though an you're keeping up with good solid watering practices
@@LawnRight Absolutely Shaun. Just about to invest in a 1250L water storage tank connected to a DAB JetInox 40/80 pump with a distribution valve and remote timers to regulate pumping water for two oscillating sprinklers in the rear lawn and two in the front lawns. Even though I live in Scotland (and we have plenty of rain), I remember when I worked in a garden centre, the head gardener always said even if it rains, you still need to water. Always stuck with me over the years.
Hi Shaun, I've been watching your videos since early lockdown and must have seen most of your back catalogue. I've seen you tackle most pests and problems with the exception of the one I have . Squirrels digging holes in my lawn, short of buying a gun have you any ideas. ( only joking about the gun )
Hi, we've also got squirrels, I think about 3 that move between a number of gardens round mine. Im afraid I don't have anything to add really other than something to scare them a bit may or may not work.. like a ribbon blowing, or something twinkling, or even one of those water sprayers that operate on sensors and send out a jet of water when something moves across the lawn
Wish we had a professional like you in our area. Well done for such a nice lady.
Thanks 😊

When a lawn has been consistently cut too short what is the best method to bring it back to health
Increase the height first and see how it responds for a few months. Then it may need some renovation work later in the year like scarifying
This renovation turned out great, excellent job Shaun! It looks far better than before. In my opinion, it seems hungry for more N, K, and calcium.
Thanks.. It was super dry as well.. She did water but wasn't nearly enough (sadly)
Thanks for your videos. When overseeding patches like this, do you continue to mow the lawn once a week even though you’ve put down new seed?
Hi no you'll need to avoid mowing for 2 to 3 weeks to let the new seeds one through and then it'll be a careful mow 😊

What is the best fertiliser to use with new grass seeds sown at the same time?
Usually a preseed Fertiliser is best. Can find many brands these days
I've inherited lots of dips I've got some topsoil over from
Another project.

When we've got hot evenings adding water increases humidity and with it increases disease pressure.

Just a quick Question.
I put some A1 spring/summer fertiliser down on tuesday, when should i see results? As absolute 0 difference yet.
Probably the stupidest question ever also, could i have watered it in too much?
Hi liquids show results much faster than granular fertiliser. It should kick in very soon
do you have any tips on what sprinklers are good? or best ways to Water Gardens ie tape water vs catch rain water ?
Hi catch rain water is always better, but tap water is ok if left uncovered for a few hours for chlorine to evaporate. Choosing a sprinkler should be based on what shape your lawn is.. a round lawn would benefit from a rotating open while an oscillating one is good for rectangles.. an impulse sprayer is also pretty good
Question - why would the fleece help with rain washout ?
Its not so much any good for heavy rain washout, more of a slowing down for when we've got persistent stuff, and to minimise strong wind damage
Thanks again for another great video. Just wondering…Is watering not best in the evening so water has time to penetrate the soil rather than evaporate in the morning? Thank you
yes and no.. unfortunately when its very hot and humid, the water increases humidity making t a breeding ground for lawn fungus like red thread..
I’ve used the same spreader with Bermuda seed set on 2 and worked well.
It's just going to slow things down a bit mainly to stop the floating from splashes. I agree. A total washouts a disaster
Are you in the UK? Bermuda seed survival in UK is poor
