      It would to be cool to see what a Rutgers fan thinks. Kaliakmanis just isn't half as exciting as Wimsatt can be.

    Rutgers grad and season ticket holder, here. I'm old enough to remember when we were in a league whose schedule included Bucknell, Lehigh, Lafayette, Colgate, Cornell, Brown, Holy Cross and NYU. Yes, NYU had a football team. Our eventual move up never included elite recruits. Gavin is the first four star qb we've had. Unfortunately, he's our Zach Wilson. Very toolsy, but severely underperforms and very inaccurate. Basically, Rutgers is very much like the Jets. Very good defense, inept offense having to rotate qb's due to injuries or ineffectiveness. I'm rooting for Kaliakmanis. From what I've seen watching him, we should be able to complete a screen pass and quick-out/wide receiver screen for the first time in forever.

      Yea great take. I’m a MSU fan but from the Northeast so I went to a couple RU games last year. Wimsatt shows the potential but I don’t think he has the tools to put it together. Shame because you can tell what he could have been. Goodluck this season man

    Thanks for the analysis. It was hard watching Wimsatt at times and I think Rutgers was lucky in a few games. The fan base is looking for further improvement given the returning players from last year. I hope you are right regarding Wimsatt.

    Rutgers fan here. Thank you for the video. When you go in depth with teams like Rutgers I know you are serious analyst.
    Wimsatt has the strongest arm a Rutgers QB has ever had. He may be the fastest as well.
    I believe he is the besr ootion at QB fir the Knights.

    Based on Kirk Ciarrocca's track record with QBs, I think Wimsatt will improve under year 2 of Ciarrocca's offensive system.

    I wouldn't have much faith in Wimsatt. It's been 3 years and his best game was either against 2022 MSU or 2023 VT, he didn't finish either game with a 60% completion percentage. Rutgers will be scary because of all the ways they can hit you on the ground, not because of any arm talent that wimsatt could have.

    I still believe in Gavin. I feel this is the first year we can truly assess Wimsatt. He went to school a year too early and that in my opinion was not a good move. He brings so much more to the table than Kaliakmanis in my opinion, he just needs to relax and master the short / intermediate passes.

  • @chrislane3228
    @chrislane3228 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Wimsatt is superior to Kaliakmanis in every category except arm strength, maybe? Kali has a big arm but Wimsatt and his time in the system should help him get the job. However... I don't see much of a drop-off if Rutgers goes with Kali. I think that the competition will help both of them.

      This Rutgers team could make some waves this year. To me, it comes down to the head coach.....

    • @chrislane3228
      @chrislane3228 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Schiano is just a defensive guy. I think the dude was born in New Jersey. His time with my Buckeyes wasn't completely horrible. I just don't know how good his offensive mind is. He's not the best head coach but the dude has exceeded expectations to me.... even though his head coaching record is below .500. I kinda think that Greg Schiano is the key here for Rutgers.

    • @collegefootballwithsam
      @collegefootballwithsam  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Kaliakmanis might have superior arm strength, but I don't know. Against Ohio State I remember Wimsatt over threw Dremel deep and if he properly threw the ball that pass would have been a touchdown. It seems like Wimsatt has all the potential to succeed, he just needs to be consistent.

    Gavin's completion percentage and decision making have been awful in his career at RU. He had a SLIGHT uptick last year in those categories but not enough. RU run game and defense were top notch and passing inconsistency is what caused them to lose a few winnable games. It's time for a new QB to be given a chance. However, Schiano will likely start with Wimsatt and as the early schedule is softer, will stay with him until they suffer some tough losses, either Va Tech or Wisconsin and eventually switch to Kaliakamanis but too late! It will be frustrating to devout RU fans because they already know they need a new QB!

  • @pistolpete8819
    @pistolpete8819 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I think winsats ability to run helped Rutgers running backs game by freezing linebackers. Developmental Qbs who make it, usually make their jump this year. He is a red shirt jr, with 2 years left of eligibility. I think he needs to progress to get Rutgers where some of us fans want them to go this year. The numbers are deceiving because the Minnesota transfer did not have to play in big10 East.

  • @johnvaccaro7022

    Gavin has the skill set and talent to explode if he can just relax,😢 improve on his accuracy and slow down and let the game come to him. We have the best coaches in the B1G working with him and we have a solid, Athan Kaliakmanis, bringing the heat behind him. Really can't wait to get a look at our future superstar, AJ Surace. If we get the qb situation settled, with our D, rb's and db's, Rutgers' will be a force to be reckoned with in the B1G this year.

    I have been defending Wimsatt from our brutal fan-base all last year. Yes, he was inconsistent on those easy short yardage passes but I also saw some NFL darts he threw..IE the Michigan game.... He does have the higher ceiling than Kaliakmanis.

  • @williamtilden8211
    @williamtilden8211 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    To me, Gavin doesn't see the field and misses seeing open receivers in the ~3 second window he has, instead opting to throw to his check-off back in the flat, or tucking the ball to run.
    I don't think that skill (seeing the field) is teachable.
    Maybe if the OC created pass plays that used better deception, resulting in wide open receivers, Gavin might see see those expected open receivers and use his superior arm to hit them.
    But, in the meanwhile, he commonly throws into double and triple coverage, as to him, it is a pass play after all.
    He has gotten better year by year, so maybe, hopefully, he proves me wrong.

  • @badsenator2108

    As much as you wanted to rip your hair out watching Gavin throw sometimes, we can’t take his scrambling ability for granted. Even a modest improvement in spring practices should be enough to give him the starting job, unless AJ Surace explodes onto the scene.

      @@collegefootballwithsam I think 7 wins is very possible. Us rutgers fans are hoping for 10. That is what we would have with a good QB. If Gavin could take that next step, a playoff birth is possible. Expectations are bowl game which for me is a huge improvement over the better half of a decade. If rutgers goes to a bowl every season fans would be so happy.
