What we hear first is always registered in our minds. For example, if you would have heard Rafi Sahab sing this bhajan first, it would have pleased you more, no matter how many singers after that tried with all their talent. Its also a moment, when the original singer gives it variations, sometimes spontaneously, or if the music composer has written it that particular way. Every song has its own flavor and color and all that binds so perfectly together, that we like it. And so much so, that anything other than the original doesn't appeal to us. I find it absolutely difficult when it comes to comparing two different artists with the same song. They are entirely two different things. So what I try to do when I come upon such a situation is try to listen what I might hear different and look how the treatment is given to that particular word, musical note, feelings etc. If you are just a listener and someone who appreciates music, it really doesn't matter who has sung the song. If you favor a particular artist, it wouldn't matter which song He or She is singing. For instance, I can listen to any song by Kishore Kumar, Rafi Sahab, Talat Mehmood and so on. And to add to that, I can listen to any songs re-sung by Sonu Nigam, because I feel he is an artist who knows and realizes the depth of music and has the capacity to give justice to it. Peace. :)
