I was 13 years old in 1983 when my schoolmate turned me on to Big Country. I was hooked and a fan instantly. I am 50 years old and still amazed at the talent that was Stuart Adamson. He would love this version for sure.
Stuart, you are so missed. You were so much more than “In a Big Country” and what a legacy you’ve left! Your fans still love you, I wish you had realized how much you were loved! Your day will never die, this time will be forever ❤️
Absolutley love this version, can't stop watching it, all members of the house band having fun. Hope you're watching and enjoying it too Stuart. Miss you big man, Big Country "our name will never die, this time will be forever"
Another powerful one by Darrell and crew. BTW: I think that's Russ Barenberg on mandolin a truly talented and versatile musician. But probably most in the room are in that category.
What an incredible lineup. I have said for years that if you had a collection of all of Darrell's solo albums; collaborations with Tim O'Brien and others; albums he has produced; played back up (a huge collection by itself) and covers of his songs played by others, you would not need to leave the house for a month - or venture to any other genre because Darrell covers some serious ground - from bluegrass, Americana and good ole rock and roll. "Darrell Scott is a 'monster talent."
The opening tribute refers to the late Stuart Adamson - vocalist and guitarist with "Big Country". Big Country were massive in the 80's with anthemic songs and a ringing bagpipe-like guitar sound.
My heart sank as I hear Darrell talking about Adamson, a veritable slug alcoholic and drug addict, who died at his own hands by hanging himself in a hotel closet in Hawaii. I frankly am not taking my "wisdom" from such an immoral person.
@@victoredwards0530 you disgust me talking about an absolute legend in that way. I hope you never succumb to any of the problems Stuart experienced in the last years of his life (marriage difficulties, extreme professional pressure just for starters). And finally, if you had ever seen Stuart live (or any live recordings of him) you would never call him a "veritable slug" >:(
great version of one of Stuart Adamsons' "deepest " songs - really, really good. Stuart's songs mean so much, to a lot of people and it, brings a lump to the throat, seeing quality musicians playing that song so welll
About the 10th (or more) time watching/listening I picked up on the fact that the melody break in the middle and at the end is played by the pipes, mandolin, dobro, fiddle, and accordion all at the same time. Clearly excellent musicianship and definitely adding to the power of the piece. Whew!
Some of the folkie elite here wouldn't give Stuart the time of day when he was alive and here they are playing his music, hypocrites. Not talking about Darrell Scott here or Paul Brady, have a lot of time for both of them. Note: this song was brought to the Transatlantic Sessions (a Scottish programme) by AN AMERICAN!!! Darrell Scott is a great talent and deserves every success.
Good news for all fans is the release of the DVD "Transatlantic Sessions: Series 3" bringing together the best of Nashville, Ireland and Scotland to perform what has been called "the greatest backporch shows ever". All of the six half-hour programmes from the BBC/RTÉ TV series are included, recorded in a beautiful old converted farm steading in the Perthshire Highlands.
One of the best songs on Transatlantic Sessions! I'm a huge fan of all the musicians on these videos. If you haven't checked them out, you should! There are 6 different sessions. Hours of incredible music! Thanks to Jerry Douglas & Aly Bain! Also Darrell Scott, one of my favorite singer/songwriters💖
Anyone know where to chords are posted for this song? I haven't found anything, but my best guess so far is that it is Capo 2, Em7, Gadd9, Dsus4, C2 for the most part. Now, the difficult part is getting that incredible sounding strum down part. If anyone has anything to add, or a site that already has this posted, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to spend some time listening to this and creating some chord sheets for myself! Great song!
Has anyone thought about who they would love to see on the Transatlantic Sessions? I can think of a few on my Transatlantic wish list ! Steve Earle, Levon Helm and Greg Brown.
Is there any album with Darrell and the entire house band like here? I've found so many videos of these sessions with Irish and folk sound and was curious if they have a full length album with these songs.
Surely you can't get better? Darrell and Paul's vocals with the band fairly ripping along with counter melodies and beats - just listen to Ronan Browne on those uilleann pipes 5 stars is not enough!
@sokkerstud32 ive ponderd the genetic idea myself this music dose seem to draw the attention of something within me and i feel some sort of connection with it.
I love these session clips. Unfortunately someone took off Tim O'brien's "My Girl's waiting for Me" at these sessions. It was the best quality of this song on utube. The only bad thing about these sessions is the make up makes them all look like ghosts. Look at Tim O'brien on "Brother Wind". He looks really wierd.
The band is wonderful. Darrell should've remembered the line, "you don't mess around with a manic depressive"-They took that out of the original lyrics fpr some reason, I guess it isn't Kosher, but you know, maybe the next generation will get it. Song writing is in demand at a full.
Massive respect to Darrell for recording this song and for remembering Stuart with love . Stuart will Stay Alive through his music. 💞💞💞💞
Guarantee at least a 1000 of these plays is just me.
Respect to Darrell scott and never forget Stuart Adamson.
I'm the other 1k. Stuart bled his heart out for us.
Look what they've done to your song, Stuart. Such respect and such joy shown in bringing your song to life.
This band....Ohhh my!
Stuart Adamson . One of Scotlands finest writer/musicians
Stuart Adamson - an absolute gem. Great version of this wonderful song. Magic

What joy in such sadness. Fantastic band and song.
Who the hell are the 10 fools who voted thumbs down. A pox upon them, they are to be pitied.
Amazing, isn't it?
"They are to be pitied". Wiser words were never spoken (or typed). :)

Tauntonbluebird And We sing the young man’s song.
Two of my favorite singers, and many of my favorite players, great stuff.
Another powerful one by Darrell and crew. BTW: I think that's Russ Barenberg on mandolin a truly talented and versatile musician. But probably most in the room are in that category.
It must run in mine too, I get cold chills when when I hear a good tune.
great song, great interpretation
Never heard this before. Brings a lump to the throat.

Love this rendition.
I think I'm addicted to this.
Awesome adamson track, vastly underestimaded as a song writer, RIP
Just heard this for the first time a couple of days ago & it's been running through my head ever since. It's making me crazy, but what a way to go...
What a great bunch of players. Nothing beats music of that quality.
Funny, in the Belville lounge in Dunfermline there was a guy called Doc...and Stuart ........

Výborné aranžmá a společně s dudami je to výborná píseň-prostě nářez!
Wow, amazing cover. The musicianship is astounding. Stuart would have loved it I'm sure.
Brilliant Songwriting! Amazing blend with those various instruments 🇺🇸

A fitting tribute to a lovely guy.
An amazing version of this beautiful song. i think Stuart would have enjoyed it.
great group playing.
This tune is also on Darrell's latest CD. This is a great version.
My favourite performance on Transatlantic Sessions along with the Catriona McKay ones.

I have loved your music to distraction, but to say Paul Brady is your house band ìs not right fair nor fittin'.
