The Westwood-developed Monopoly is, in my opinion, the best PC rendition of the board game classic ever made. So what if it's 22 years old? It does everything right, and still to this day hasn't been one-upped in terms of playability!
Everyone was taken aback when they first saw Monopoly back in 1995. It looked so cool. Nice animation didn’t hurt, but it was the scenes of the various spots on the board that was really impressive.
Oh my god, I spent hours on this version of Monopoly as a kid. Always loved the board game, but most everyone I met always complained that it took too long to play, so I played against the ai's all the time. Thanks for the upload!
I played this religiously on my grandma's computer. I loved it so much, I downloaded it again as an ISO file and I still play it. The atmosphere amd the cutscenes were top-notch. Love this game.
Dude i remember the red or yellow properties so vividly, i think about them frequently for some reason. I also liked how the houses are sometimes overturned or on the columns.
This game was amazing. The animations, graphics and music still hold up today and this is probably the best Monopoly game ever made imo. Thanks for uploading!
If anyone wants to play this right now, archive.org has a version that is upgraded to be 64 bit and run natively in windows 10. It might even have widescreen support, I forget: archive.org/details/WestwoodMonopoly1995
I would love an updated version of this game to include more detailed area maps and some more moving atmosphere as well. Mellow out the songs but don't change them!
I remember getting this game back then in 2000 from the inside of a cereal box and playing it religiously because computer was a potato. Just recently found out it was made by Westwood which speaks of why it was so high quality. Awesome stuff. Ty for uploading. Nothing I loved more than landing on Baltic Ave and seeing the ghetto ass place I was about to purchase with no mercy. Side note: I like the option of how you're able to select "Cheating is Allowed" @1:20. Like wtf does that do haha. Imagine you're about to win and you see the AI just stealing money going hard during their turn.
Probably the best version of Monopoly you can find. Easy to pick up and play, the music is enjoyable and the sound chip on the older computers definitely adds to the nostalgia factor. To this day there have been many modern versions come out, but I've always came back to this particular version. it has a simple design that isn't in your face. It's all you need and nothing you don't. This is the first computer game version of monopoly I've ever played as a kid, but I'm not just being nostalgically biased here. If you are looking for a straight up game of monopoly this is the game for you. There is a version out there that is compatible with modern computers, you're just going to have to find it.
Everything about this screams "this game is what you get when you combine class and atmosphere with a board game", the animations are top-notch, the designs are superb and it's much much MUCH better than the Ubisoft games (though I still prefer the NES)
The music is something else, man. I remember playing this game all the time in elementary school and enjoying - but not really thinking about - the music. Then I picked up jazz saxophone in middle school and fell in love with the jazz albums recommended by my music instructors. I think I finally realize why jazz was the first music genre I really grabbed on to. Great game, great music, great memories.
8:36 That animation never ceased to amuse me. 17:58 That poor pigeon!🤣 25:41 Always sucks to land there. 29:03 Yeah, I loved that plastic flamingo. 35:40 🤣🤣🤣 This has to be one of my favourites! 42:42 You hate to hear it…
I remember playing this after school at my childhood’s best friends house very often, good old times that I will always cherish and will always be alive in my heart the nostalgia is 💯
I played this one at a neighbor's house as a kid! Asked for it for Christmas, what I got instead was the later Monopoly PC game from '99/2000. It was a fun game in its own (I mean, you can't go wrong with Monopoly) but I really liked the animations in this one. I love how the box bursts open!
I miss this version of Monopoly I used to play it so much growing up on the computer. What a time I have the soundtrack downloaded so using the music whenever I play Monopoly on the NES or the other PC version I downloaded it's like I haven't missed a beat.

@@NintendoComplete Thanks, before coming here again I was experimenting with stuff and figured I had to right click and set the 640x480 option in the compatibility setting. So that issue us already solved. But then there is another problem. How are the videos so crisp in your game? I'm playing this on Win 7 x64 but the videos are quite pixelated for me. Any ideas? I'm simply running it on Win7 x64 whereas you seem to be using some emulator? Is it because of that?
@@Street_Hawk Oh great. I'm glad you got it working! I used Dosbox running Windows 3.1 in order to play and record this. It worked pretty well. If it looks pixelated, it could be a couple of things. Are you running it at 4:3 like the game expects, or is it being stretched to fit a modern wide-screen monitor? That will distort the image quite a bit. The game is also meant to run at 256 colors. Running it at 16, 24, or 32-bit color depth can blow the color out and make things look super splotchy. I can't think of anything else that might cause it atm. Hope that helps!
@@NintendoComplete So where do I change the aspect ratio? There is no option for it when I right click the exe. Changing compatibility settings don't make any difference. I tried it at 256 colors and it looks much worse. I have an Nvidia card btw. I'm not a very technical person and Dosbox scares me so I stayed away from it. Installing Win3.1 and then the game on it is a bit too much work for me and I may screw up; also who knows if the game still didn't work as intended, lol. However, if you could make a tutorial or point me to one which explains in an easy manner as to how to install Win3.1 on Dosbox and then Monopoly 95 on it, then that would be nice. So again the issue here is that all the 3D videos in the game are just blocky and not very smooth looking. This also happens with me in Monopoly 3(2002). I played the AVI movies of Monopoly 3 in VLC player and they looked smooth. But in-game they look pixelated. It's weird.
@@Street_Hawk I'm not sure where aspect ratios would be. It depends on your PC. Probably either the in the Nvidia utility or an option in the bios if you're on a laptop. If it's just the FMV screwing up, then you probably need to install a codec that can decode it properly. I have no idea what it uses, though. I'd guess some form of QuickTime or indeo? Agreed. It's still my favourite PC-Monopoly game.
Every time I hear that Westwood theme I get hit with a ton of nostalgia.
Totally agree. Brings back so many memories. How can get this game on my pc?
it is great, only problem is that it is a 16-bit game and won't run natively on a 64-bit operating system :(
+Superchad245
Hey Superchad245, have you tried going out to vogons.org about this issue?
Its a website for helping users get PC applications to work.
I had this as a kid. I loved the little visuals of all the spaces
I miss playing this :(
That's what I loved about it too .. no other monopoly game has this
The FMV cutscenes of the properties remind me of something you'd see after you'd get a strike at an old bowling alley.
Windows 10
Those scenes were my favorite thing about the game.
Everyone was taken aback when they first saw Monopoly back in 1995. It looked so cool. Nice animation didn’t hurt, but it was the scenes of the various spots on the board that was really impressive.
It honestly still holds up. Loved this game.

Even as a Full On Has Musician, this whole soundtrack is something I’ll never forget. It’s A+ Writing. Would love to meet the composer.
Frank Klepaki, he did command and conquer too
So nostalgic~ This was one of my favorite CD games as a kid.

I remember this game fondly... Also, I remember Doggie as well!!

I like how the cutscenes have the buildings just haphazardly laying around behind the gates, sometimes not even right-side-up!
Kinda crazy that the guys who made this went on to make Command and Conquer
This game was amazing. The animations, graphics and music still hold up today and this is probably the best Monopoly game ever made imo. Thanks for uploading!
What bonkers animations!
Very MS-DOS... when games were simpler and didn't have microtransactions and endless DLC.

Keep it up! Looking forward for more videos from you, don't stop!
Hey, I had this game back in the day! I used to play it a lot as a kid. Good times. :)
Same here. I always loved seeing the hat turn over and spit out rabbits on that one corner.
I loved this game. It feels more minimalist and calm than the more recent ones which can feel a bit busy to me
Ahh... Low quality MiDi and Compressed low color depth video. Defines the 90s!
Probably because this is being run off of DOSBox. The setup used is Windows 3.1 with Soundblaster-16 for the audio.
Yes, the MIDI sounds are very bad due to that Soundblaster FM synthesizer, but the MIDI files themselves are top programmed.

The animation is taking way too long.
@@fasha7747 I agree, but to be fair the options menu allows you to disable specific animations or even all of them.
THE NOSTALGIA! God I loved this. Anytime I play the board game, I always remember these lil vids associated with each square

Somehow you knew when this was made, it was a "show off" game from Westwood with all these slick graphical animation and crisp music tune. :D
Hanferd Oh for sure, it looked awesome. Still does!
Been playing the free app on my phone lately…but had to search for these old animations cuz I remembered them from back in the day…

Monopoly, the game of games.
46:33 Ouch...
And after all that construction, too!
So many people in the comments express exactly how I feel about this game -- it's like, "I'm one of you guys!" "This is where I belong!"
I loved this game, and that’s why I had to search for this video. The nostalgia 😊
My grandpa and i played this on his old computer when i was i little kid. This brings back a lot of good memories i had playing this with him
this is making me cry 😢
This brings back memories of my early years with my first PC. I always played this Monopoly game with my dad.
I love that YM3812 Soundblaster rendition of the music. Even more so than the other versions!
this midi-file jazz music reignited some crazy nostalgia! I used to spend HOURS in elementary school playing this!
That music is so relaxing.
Loved this game as a kid. This soundtrack is what I'm positive got me into Jazz
Still got my CD Rom version at home! This might be one of the first games I played over the internet!

Major nostalgia.

Never knew about this, but I love the dice roll animation
May I ask, why does the music sound of lesser quality? It still sounds great, but it sounds more 16-bit or so?
+dangibbz1996 That's what a Sound Blaster 16 sounds like, and that was by far the most popular sound card around in 1995 :)
wow now this is the good stuff, so cool to still have it!

Command & Conquer: Monopoly Dawn.
Really cool how you could turn on and off certain house rules, set different rules and all that.
This and the genesis version are the games I grew up with

I loved this game as a kid
I miss playing this game so much!!! =(
(this is a little late) but great playthrough! Though have you ever heard of Monopoly Deluxe (1992) on DOS?
The music... so calming

There's the Bankrupt Gauntlet.
Out of dough!

I had a copy of this game alongside "Where is the USA in Carmen Sandiego?. Too bad I lost both games.

That's the best way to show us what bankruptcy looks like.
I had this as a kid. LOVED it.
The animations in this one were later reused in the PS1 version, which I still own the disc for to this day.
I finally found the game! Damn!! This is the one I've been looking for!! I used to play it when I was 8 years old
Man this game is so good
THIS WAS THE BEST!!! I PLAYED THIS SO MUCH

how did you get sound to work? i got a virtual box playing this to enjoy it after all these years but it doesn't play any music, only sound effects
10 years huh? Where are they now?
On this version I noticed that two of the A.I. players were named Fox and Dana
....or Mulder and Scully if you prefer their last names.
I miss this game.
I liked the London version Mayfair, Bond Street any pc version?
The iron is doing the worm. XD
The cannon can fly?! XD Damn Iron Man. XD
It's also on other home Consoles as well (snes, genesis, psx, n64, gcn, Xbox ps2, gab, gb, inc.)
Maxim Ukhin Yeah it's been on just about everything. I've got a number of them posted in the card links
i remember playing this game as a family on computer
For what I know from experience is to get the railroads and boardwalk and park place first and put homes on it and you basically have the game.
1:04:16 has the same energy as getting a go back 3 spaces card from the community chest (if on existed in the community chest.) after getting a go back 3 spaces card from chance
