Your honesty is what sets your videos apart. Keep telling it as it is. It continues to amaze me that after more than 100 years of design and technological improvements car manufacturers still build vehicles that are so difficult to maintain.

13:15 Another quick tip, wich you mentioned, but is is ADDENDUM: grab white marker, mark 3 teeth on crank pulley and belt, and 3 teeth on cam pulley and belt, on the old belt vefore removal ( only if you know the timing is good). Then transfer those 6 marks to the new belt, and that will give you 100% accuracy when you put new belt on, since you allign it with the cam and cranks pulley with your marks. Beats sleepless nights "did i do it right?" Ask me later how i learned this...Keep it up!

He's right you do always look great. That's a fact. I'm sure you probably already know this but when you get the oil leak fixed remember to have your intercooler cleaned out. All that oil on the charge side is going to be the gift that keeps on giving, it could throw codes, or even make you think something is wrong with the car after you get the oil leak fixed.

I have 2 TTs. Only 65k mil on the 1.8 T and a 3.2 Quattro With 50k mil, Both 2005 models.in mint as new. So lucky to get them and so cheap. I did the timing belt on the 1.8, thanks to TH-cam. A guy did a step by step. The engine mount was a hassle to work around but did it. My 17 your old drives the the 1.8, he love it. Good work. Inspiring 👌

Note to The timing part, you have to compress the tensioner with a small bolt, that way you can put belt on easier

V/C turned out great, especially for night painting!
It's hard to tell on a screen, but from the spacings, it didn't look like the cam would have been a full tooth off the first time. Set the crank, and check the cam, you hadn't even gone the full two turns when you stopped to check. With new parts, if the cam is less than a full tooth past the mark, it's going to be a tension or break in related, if it's shy of the mark something else is wrong. It's a tough job to get on the first shot with just two hands, you shouldn't feel embarrassed at all.
It is a lot of oil in the intercoolers, but you don't know how long it's been building up, maybe start with PCV first? A catch can just solves the symptom of a bad PCV system.
Hope the first start up after all this work goes well.

I did my water pump and timing belt on my 08 vw gti last year and watching this is making me want to take everything apart again worrying about the timing. I didnt check it with a couple rotations and reading things of what youre supposed to do after doing it has always given me anxiety. The GTI FSI engine looks almost identical to this. The marks that I had made didnt seem to line up until I advanced the lower shaft a couple degrees to match the cam gears. The car seems to run pretty awesome currently so I guess I had taken a gamble and got it all lined up great.

G'day, Sarah! Um, that right, Kemosabe. Great humor! Terrific to see, you had some great help! It's like deja vu!! 😉 Bravo, on doing service for the 8n Audi TT Quattro timing belt replacement. (Timing Belt, Water Pump, Tensioners, Hoses, Gaskets, Plugs and etc.)
By the way, I hope you'll give Lil Sarah, my Deepest Sympathy for the Loss of her Mum. It’s never easy to come up with the right words when a friend loses a loved one.
To help ease some of the pain. Many people go through their mother’s funeral in a state of numbness. However, after it’s all over, the feelings return, and that may be when your friend really needs someone. Please, give her hugs! Thank you!
    Cheers! 😊✌🏼💕
P.S. After a couple of weeks have passed, try your best to go back to normal activities with your friend, knowing she will still be in a state of grief that can last for a very long time. The distractions may give her the much-needed break from the constant feeling of loss.

Tip: Mark the old belt with alignment marks.
Put it over the new belt and mark it in the same place. When you put the new belt over the pulleys you should have a good indication of how the belt should align to the teeth. Helps a lot. Make sure to double check timing though!
Try not to rotate the engine at all if you can!

This is not only a tensioner, also an VVT ( variable vale timing) to phase the camshaft.
There are tons of crap of this on ebay...hopefully you bought an VW/Audi part.
Oil in the intercoolerhose is normal for the 1.8T..... don't have to replacing the turbo.

The oil buildup on those 1.8t's lol. The previous owner probably never drained it. You can drill a small hole in the bottom of the intercooler, and plug it with a screw. Then whenever you do your oil changes; take the screw out, and drain the oil build-up. KO4 turbo upgrade? Timing belts on those cars...😖🔫
