Born in a family of musicians, Maqbool Hussain was initiated into music by his uncle, Ishtiyaq Hussain Khan, the son of legendary maestro Mushtaq Hussain Khan. Blessed with a strong yet mellifluous voice, Maqbool Hussain is heir to the rich repertoire of the Rampur Sahaswan Gharana. The gharana’s origins trace back to Ustad Mehboob Khan, the chief khayal singer in the royal court of Rampur State (present-day Uttar Pradesh) and his son, the legendary Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan. He has widely performed across many countries and is a recipient of several awards and accolades.
This baithak was held at the initiative of Ved Gupta as a part of bazm e Khas foundation live concerts.
The idea behind this upload is to preserve this collection of great music for all music lovers and students of Hindustani music.
