    Great work on the video. I'm going to try this on my rig tomorrow. I'm using PPG breakthrough which is quite thin right out of the can, but without thinning it at least 10% I still get a "splattery" finish. I'm using the #5 needle. Just purchased the #6 needle for primer and it even gives me a "splattery" finish. I know I'll get it figured out eventually.

    • @sprayaholic

      Thanks. I would try a slight dilution. Try and add abit more air and open the pattern a litter larger shouldnt need a 6 needle really. 5 is generally good

      @Strve Sit I am not sure where you can get it in UK I am in Canada, but I bet any Benjamin Moore store will have the product , as for the primer I use the bullseye zincer 123 because has good blockage and adherance to the wood , there is also Benjamin moore advance but it takes longer to dry it a hybrid paint

    Great vid! As a joiner who has used this very setup for the first time this week I have had great results. One thing I noticed is that when I sprayed my top coat (Tikkurila SD25) in a blue/grey colour I seem to have a lot more overspray. Great finish but lots of excess dust everywhere. Not sure if it’s just that the paint is so dark I notice it more. I’m a novice so nothing to compare it against.
    Settings are tip 5
    Turbine 6
    Fluid 5
    Air just under half (11 o’clock)
    Fan rolled back quarter way.
    Cheers, James

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey bud thanks for watching. Yes you'll often find primers spray really nice and easy and the top coats do spray differently.
      My settings here were crown wb gloss. Same settings for helmi 80.
      Try it with the fluid more on 3 and move a little slower. Are you standing too far away? 8inch usually but if youre too far away the air will be blowing the paint dust creating a cloud.
      Is the sd25 the spray only gear? Im yet to try that. But will be using it for next spray jobs

    • @sasjames2000
      @sasjames2000 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sprayaholic Thanks for the advice. Yes I’ll maybe try and spray a bit closer. I think I was worried about being too close and going on too thick as I thought it looked mottled. But now I’ve sprayed a bit more I realise now that it dries a lot flatter.
      I have no spraying experience really but I can highly recommend the SD25 and yes I think it’s a spray only product. I only used it because a joiner I follow on Instagram uses it for its fast drying time.
      It’s slightly more sheen than Helmi 10 (about 15% I think). It’s a lovely finish and I’m really impressed with it. In this weather I could sand at 320 and redcoat in 30 mins which I thought was brilliant. Can’t believe I haven’t sprayed sooner!

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sasjames2000 oh cool. Yes that's the one. The primer is akvi primer. Dries and sandable in like 30 min. Yes hvlp alot of people tend to not put enough on. Ye it can appear a little dimpled but oike you say it levels off. The more you do it the more you realise hos thick it can actually go on. If you like to mess around in the garage too. Buy a micron meter . Its like a nit comb and it measures the depth of wet coatings. In mill so you can actually see how thick youre putting it on and test it on vertical sections. Get you used to what it looks oike etc.

      Sprayaholic the micron meter sounds handy. Be good to practice and check I’m spraying an even coat. Especially the second coat as i find it a bit harder to see how I’m spraying when it’s the same colour. bankscarpentry is the guy I follow. I’d never heard of SD25 till I heard him mention it but for me it’s been really great to use. Cheers for the advice I’ll defo be back for more advice. 👍👌

    Simon, thanks for taking the time to do that. I’d worry I must admit about getting runs when the paint is so thin. Got shelves, windows and a fireplace , which has decorative detailing on it, to paint in oil eggshell . It’s been stripped by someone right back. Walls all finished by another painter. He’s not going back . Anyway I thought I’d spray otex oil on first. Only got a three stage turbine. Any advice ?

    • @sprayaholic
      @sprayaholic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its not that thin. Its no more than 10% diluted .
      Youd have to thin abit more to get it through your hvlp or uae a bigger needle than a 1.3mm. If you have a 1.8 it will be easier

    • @97krunch
      @97krunch 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Steven Mcfarlane the procomp is supposed to be able to work without diluting. I have to see how my machine performs. If you’re not able to upgrade I would try on a scrap piece with diluted with a coat dry it then another coat and repeat until you have enough coats to seal it and even. Just a suggestion.

    Informative video I must say. Had my machine for 2 weeks and had 2 attempts at using with acrylic primer. Before watching your video I couldn’t for the life of me get the sprayer to stop splattering. After watching your video I’ve realised the black fitting by the nozzle is to adjust the fan size, And I’ve had that wound up hand tight every time. Do you think this would be reason it’s been splattering? I’ve tried different consistency from 5 10 percent all the way down to 50 percent watered down. And all the different settings. Will try tomorrow adjusting the black fitting and see how I get on otherwise I’m not sure if the machine or gun is faulty. You thoughts on this will help.
    Thanks

      If its wound all the way in the needle will probably be more Visible and that means its in the narrow fan pattern. So if have it wound out a little atleast. Depends how wide you need the fan
      . The more you increase the air and fluid the wider it gets too.

      Haha. You put the machine out of the room. Its no different to hearing the airless run i dont think.
      Smart start works so it switches the machine off when it knows ive not pulled the air for 10 seconds. Then when i pull for air it starts again. Ifni had a standard turbine it would be switched on at the machine and then off when you want it off.
      Not been around compressors for ages so cant comment. But each to their own again. Like i said the fuji Q series is a noticeable lower hum.
