I can honestly say, I hated the sound of phones in the seventies. So high and strong, when that phone rang in the middle of the night, you always knew it was bad news

Most of you aren't old enough to remember but when this movie came out it was SO POPULAR it filled theaters and drive ins for months ‼️ Blacula got himself a heavy cult and fan following and became something of a superhero to all or most of my friends (including me) at school. So popular was this spin off the original Dracula they made a sequel within 6 months. NGL 👍

Well, I'm disappointed they never made "Blacula Bites Boston," like JJ on Goodtimes referred to in an episode. Nor, "Son of Blacula."
They could've easily made more sequels in the seventies.

Bruh, this is my all time favorite vampire film. William Marshall is incredible. Super Campy. Lot's of great lines, bad ass music by Gene Page and The Hues " Don't rock the boat" corporation singing There he is again. It is also one hell of a romantic tragedy.

  • @MGillDesign

13:50 Of course Blacula be in the club... he's Dracula's Soul Brother.
Dracula spends time in coffins, Blacula hangs out in clubs. That's the difference.

Great reaction to a classic, Showdown. Goddamn, someone give me a time machine. The music, the fashions, the DIY mentality that went into so many classic exploitation films of the 70s. The drive-in experience. Everyone getting stoned. Popcorn and a drink for a buck. Movies that had no business competing with Hollywood blockbusters of the time, but did anyway, and are remembered just as fondly half a century later, like this one here. I was too young to be able to really experience it, but lucky enough to have early memories of early 80s drive-ins, in their dying days, seeing movies like Porky's. I was 5. I had no business seeing a movie like that, but another beautiful aspect of those times was...parents, in general, gave no shits. This was a really fun reaction, Showdown. Graphics, editing, commentary...all great. 😎

Every Saturday night at 11:00 on channel 11, there was "Chiller Theater". With the famous six fingered hand sticking out of a puddle of blood. This was played a lot, along with every other horror, B movie made. A lot of Christopher Lee Dracula flick's and the like. I started work in my Grandpa's diner at 11:00, and my first chore was to peel a 50# bag of potatoes, for french fries. So I would sit there and watch Chiller every weekend. It was more fun after I discovered "weed". You could buy a "Lid" of Mexican for $10.00. For the young people, that's an ounce. Gramps was cool about it. Long as I worked!! Keep on keepin on!

"You shall pay, black prince. I shall place a curse of suffering on you that will doom you to a living hell. I curse you with my name. You shall be... Blacula!"
Fun Fact: It grossed over $1 million, making it one of the highest-grossing films of 1972.
Location Location Fact: Shot on location in Los Angeles, with some scenes shot in Watts. The final scenes were shot at the Hyperion Outfall Treatment Plant in Playa del Rey.
Black History Month Fact: William Marshall's Mamuwalde was the first black vampire to appear in films. While the film was in its production stages, William Marshall worked with the producers to make sure his character had some dignity. His character's name was changed from Andrew Brown to Mamuwalde and received a background story about his being an African prince who had been turned into a vampire.

The house band was the Hughes Corporation an amazing Motown band that recorded rock the boat. The music from this movie was slamming. William Marshall was an accomplished Shakespearian actor, about six foot five, tall dude man. The white cop with the curly hair is Gordon Pinset a Canadian-born actor from Newfoundland. William Marshall insisted that the role is of a black prince who had come to Romania to protest the slave trade, as was bitten by Count Dracula for having insulted him. Scream Blackula Scream was good, but the original was far better, more gothic, with more vampire bites

See I don't have a problem with the word Blacula because we had no choice. They weren't hiring people of color back then as you know so we decided to start our own black exploration type movies and we were successful that way. That's how we found work. And no that dude was not Vincent Price. Hahaha
