I enjoy your videos! Have you ever done a video explaining how to move the cylinder forward or up in the case of the Pioneer. It would be cool if you could show this on your cut away saw. Thanks
Well shucks. When parts for vintage equipment becomes unobtanium, sometimes one has to get creative. No, I do not have a lathe. But I do have access to one at a long time friends shop. Just don't like to use others tools unless I REALLY need to!
I used the LRB snap rings on my BR800 piston. So far so good! 🤔 Have run it about 2 hours. I have some spares like yours but wanted to stay apples to apples.
Pioneer series bearings and crankshaft are the same as husqvarna 266xp. If you have a lathe you could take a husqvarna 61 piston take it down to the size of the p 40 series pioneer cylinder.
Hi Tinman, I couldn't see clearly but it looked like you had the piston down too far, if you lifted it up the holes in the piston and rod might have lined up. I'd also be concerned about a loose fitting wrist pin. Thanks for the video.
Try spray oven cleaner for the carbon. It will clean out the ring lands and the carbon in the combustion chamber and not harm the metal, thou the carbon in the chamber increases your compression.
There is someone on TH-cam who took a 372 cylinder and put it on a p41, he called it the p74, if you type into TH-cam pioneer p74 that TH-cam shorts video of that saw should come up, it’s a really cool saw, and he piped it so it sounds great
Those little red barn pistons are supposed to be a heavy piston also I know the rist pin out of a Stihl 044 is much lighter of a rist pin and I believe its compatible with a 372 rist pin not sure wether or not you have to custom fit it haven't used one yet but fixing on useing one on a 365sp good old information from the iron horse
Well that’s no good, very disappointing when you buy something that is supposedly the correct part but it’s made to the wrong tolerances. Amazon is the same way, Chinese junk. Bought a cylinder kit just to be curious, the piston skirt and sides are like a razor blade.
Howdy Tinman, what's the thickness of those P42 rings? 1.2mm? Maybe use Stihl 034 Super/036 Super ring (48mm) and just gap them ? Just taking a big swing but 47.6mm to 48mm wouldn't take much filing and should seat in. MHO
If you check with Lee at LRB, he’ll likely accuse you of ordering the wrong thing and force you to write back and forth a hundred times before he decides to help. Ask me how I know!
@@Magoot2456 Well, unfortunately they’re the only source of aftermarket BR 800 pistons. So, I’m kinda stuck with them. But, there is a supplier in China that is now producing a crankshaft/piston combo that I may try. That connecting rod uses needle bearings instead of a bushing!
I'm not impressed with the lil red barn piston a got. Supposed to be a pop up... but I've never had a piston u could cut ur steak on the sharp edges on it. I'm gonna get a cheapo cylinder and spend 6 days trying to smooth the pistons razor blade sides n see if it works. Definitely don't wanna mess up the oem stuff.
😊😊 HI TINMAN there are places that make piston rings 4 gas engines they should be able 2 make a set of rings 4 a chainsaw and U might have 2 have a piston make 4 that saw 👀 😊 I would check ✔️ 😊 and see and tinman grandpa moms dad use 2 work at a machine shop 😊😊 OMG 1O 3O 2O24
"And the next thing you know, you're bolting the dog to the cat."
Low key remark of the year. 😊
Legendary quote 😂
I definitely want to see the piston drilling video :) ive heard Harvey talk about it but never seen him actually do it
Ignition mounts will be different between all cylinders I think. They all have different coils
Great "Man Cave" !
How you overcome the problems in rebuilding is the key to success. Interesting video to watch. 👍
Thank you Sir for your teaching!
I have a lathe that I bought to do lathe stuff and never ever needed it now that I have it. Except I started doing saw stuff now with it.
Well this should be interesting and fun. Can't wait to see. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
Had same issue with one of those little red barn pistons with to much wrist pin play

Cool video friend💪💪hope you and your family are doing well🙏much respect
First saw I ever ran was a pioneer so I’ve always had a sweet spot for them. Although that one is the wrong shade of lime 😁

Hi, it's the opposite, the piston only goes down 1/2 way over the rod. The wrist pin hole is half covered when it's as far down as it will go.
Try spray oven cleaner for the carbon. It will clean out the ring lands and the carbon in the combustion chamber and not harm the metal, thou the carbon in the chamber increases your compression.
Hello from Virginia, I need a starter housing with starter in it to fit a p 40
I got a Lil red barn piston on my homelite 150, same thing, had to grind inside to slide my rod the rest of way,,, it was cast crooked
Good day. If a 372 wrist pin will fit. I think an 044 wrist pin is lighter and stronger? I think that’s what ironhorse is putting in buckin’s new saw👍

A milling machine would come in handy for that job.

What do you think about proline parts

i heard the pioneer 800 was one of the best its was a reed saw ive only seen pictures would love to see even a video
Would the ring pin drive in a bit if you can't pull it out ? yes im a farmer .
I have a 1905 14x6 hendey lathe😎
Thanks for the video hope you and yours are doing well

I believe those thin rings r like around 0,7mm thickness just like some Jonsered 630 and 920 had.
Hey tinman, I have a question, would I have to adjust timing on a 395 xp if I put a 58mm big bore kit on it with pop up pistons
It all depends if the timing is where you want it. Generally a bolt on kit is bolt on and the timing is "close to stock"..
@tinmanssaws thanks man I appreciate it
If you check with Lee at LRB, he’ll likely accuse you of ordering the wrong thing and force you to write back and forth a hundred times before he decides to help. Ask me how I know!
Man, thanks good to know! Thank you for sharing your experience with LRB...DEFINITELY won't buy anything from there ever 😂

😊😊 HI TINMAN can U put that piston in a lathe and true it up so it's a circle 🔵 😊 again instead of being egg 🥚 😮 shape /😊😊 OMG 1O 3O 2O24
How do you put up with that bench? 😂😂
