Most dads don't make videos to earn their income to be able to do things like this with their kids .... and are "dicks" because they work their life away to provide for unnapreciative little pricks as yourselves ..... and probably gets no action from mommy dearest anymore ... gotta look at things for what they are ... maybe your dad's aren't really dicks.... maybe they are just tired and worn down from years of making a hard living... not making thousands and thousands of dollars making little videos .....

Ok so, after seeing a couple of shots of people looking at the car at red lights. Maybe pick up a pair of those glasses with cameras build in (or two), then you and JD take a much shorter road trip and just record the looks on people's faces. I'm fairly certain, there have been some good ones.

    TWO THOUSAND MILES.
    Two thousand miles,
    In just a few days,
    With two thousand holes,
    Shining two thousand rays.
    The Holey Goat.
    Resurrected from dead,
    With no hammer too big,
    With two pairs of eyes,
    They aint needing no jig.
    The Holey Goat.
Well that car did them proud,
Back to where it was born,
    Not a breakdown in sight,
Bar the odd belt was torn.
    The Holey Goat.
    Local temperatures high,
    Air con on delete,
    Them highly strung wipers,
Would just bat off that sleet.
    The Holey Goat.
    The soundtrack was rocking,
    Just schmoozing them miles,
    Wernt nothing on earth,
    Could of upset there smiles.
    The Holey Goat.
    Good memories made,
    A road trip to gloat,
    For The Father, The Son,
    And The Holey Goat! 😎

And the Judge on that day,
      Locked his dear Pa away,
It was the end of the line,
      Over some speeding fine.
Well that boy get's to crying,
      His Pa's heart now dying,
      Surely bin some mistaking,
      Them years now forsaken.
Well that car copped the hump,
      Thought that canyon it'd jump,
      Turns out it don't float,
      No more Holey Goat . . .

I remember my brother once driving back from Baltimore in heavy rain with no working wipers in his 67 Chevelle SS396. He told me he tied the laces from his sneakers to the wiper arms, pulled them back and forth while steering with his knees. Sounds about right for him. LOL Great trip JD will remember forever. Good job dad!

I’ll be a great road trip as everyone else’s mentioned. I’m surprise you had not contacted the folks ahead of time to let them know you were headed their direction. They sure probably will want to have seen it. Drive safe. 👽

I have driven from the southern most major city in my country to the northernmost in a car I flew down to the southern city to buy. I had my eldest daughter with me at the time (she had just turned 16) and we covered both islands in three days (including a 3-and-a-half hour trip on the ferry between them. Sounds like an epic trip? It was 1184 kilometres.....or 736 miles, so about a third of your trip....but our roads are narrower and have many hills and bends. The car I bought is a 1974 Triumph Stag, but we could not drive it with the top down as the optional hardtop was fitted....so we cooked a bit as the heater was stuck on hot. I'd driven it about 10 miles on a test drive and picked up that it had some serious maintenance to be done and there were a few dodgy bodge jobs that may let go on the way home, but bought it anyway....partly because I wanted to do the road trip up the country. Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" was played so many times I lost count and I had just given up smoking.....
The first thing I found out about was that the gearbox - the original Triumph 4-speed plus overdrive unit - had the oil retention characteristics of a colander. I found this out by way of the smell of burning gear oil in the cabin and looked underneath to see a small puddle form there every time we stopped. Fortunately it did not burst into flames (well, not on THAT trip, but that's a different story). I also had to jerry-rig up something to stop the speedo cable from lying on the hot exhaust, because that wasn't exactly ideal either. By the time we got to the top of the South Island, I was having to hold the clutch pedal up with my foot because the spring had broken, so I was upside down in the motel carpark with my head under the dash trying to rig a temporary fix with the remains of the spring when the car's horns started up on their own. Turned out the car had an alarm I didn't know about and I had bumped the switch...... She developed a misfire heading away from the ferry when we got to the North Island, but a quick clean of the points, plugs and inside the distributor cap sorted that. Unfortunately, it made us a bit late for arriving at our next destination and I had to do some night driving......out the back of beyond on a lesser-used highway with no street lights.....so it was DARK...and the headlights of the Stag were pointed at the ground 2 feet in front of the bumper - and that was on high beam. I had wondered why we were getting this constant smell of petrol through the car and how it was worse for a long time after I filled up. I had thought it had been because I had doused my shoes when we first filled it up, but was having a hard time believing that when it still ponged the second day. I saw why the next morning. The road we had been on the previous night was quite dusty and had coated the fuel that had been pouring down the right hand side of the car from the filler cap with a light dusting, leaving a rather tell-tale stream mark down the side and all the way to the rear of the right rear quarter, No wonder I was getting such crap mpg - I figured quarter of the tank was emptying out the filler cap! I ran her from half a tank down from then on and bought a two gallon jug of fuel just in case I was caught short.
From there to home (about 250 miles) was uneventful in the sense that nothing else went wrong but I cannot honestly say that what DID go wrong caused us any real or imagined trauma. It was a lot of fun, there was a V8 soundtrack and classic tunes. We saw things that neither of us had ever seen, followed (and were followed by) other classic cars - British and US - and had discussions on all manner of topics, so learned a lot from and about each other. The Stag has gone on to cost me more money than I paid for it five years ago to get it to pretty much the same as it was when I bought it, but as well as causing me many headaches, the car has also given me a lot of enjoyment.....as it has also done with the rest of my little family when they've ridden in it with me. Many memories have been had in that 48-year-old, tired but still giving it her all classic and to be honest, I would not swap those memories for anything in the world. I cannot take money with me when I go past my expiry date, so why not have some fun with it if I can? Money is a tool to get you what you need. I needed to ease my soul and get back to driving something I enjoyed and the Stag has given me that. Tomorrow, I will take her on her weekly run of around 80 miles through the countryside, past beaches and through hills and long straights near my home. Sometimes she gets an outing several times a week or I use her as my daily for a couple of weeks or so, but she does get the minimum 80 mile run. Hopefully it will not be raining and I can put the top down, but if not, I am sure I will still enjoy her sure-footedness in the corners and the sound of the rumble through the car as she moves along.
By the way - if you ever come to New Zealand, be warned that if you have kids with you in the car, you are not allowed to smoke. Yep - the nanny-state tree-huggers and do-gooders banned it a few years ago, much to my chagrin and soapbox ranting against it. They said it was to stop kids being "victims of their parents' filthy habits" and "to avoid the health issues associated with second hand smoke" That wouldn't be a problem in the Goat - only a convertible would allow more airflow than that beast! Not railing on smokers, mate - just giving you the good oil. I've been smoke free since I bought the Stag......but I still vape!
