Itdakidd _ it gives it a bit of stability because it makes the base a bit wider but it would probably be fine without it. As long as the bottom bit of wood is wide enough.

I built one similar but a bit cheaper and smaller, it moves alot when I slide and stuff, any tips on how to prevent it? :)
Maybe some long rubber/foam strips on the bottom should keep it stationary
Rubber strips on the edges on the bottom will solve your problem 100%
