My theory on the laundry/pile of clothing: The scene of the clothing shaped in the mountain among the sea represents all the lost youths of the Sewol ferry tragedy. If you look up Christian Boltanski - "Personnes" art momenta, the clothes represent lives - of those who used to live and perhaps of those living. Each object belonged to a human life that was lost. In this case, the Sewol ferry victims. It's better to look up the artwork yourself and see the connection.

In one scene, you see RM with a crown, he is the leader and he is looking at his team having fun and struggling during their long journey ( the train), you see jin observing all the members climbing the stairs (improving). he takes care of them and supports them yet he takes a lot of blame and criticism. all the members have moments where they feel lonely and struggle alone, yet in the end, they all walk together and support each other. the shoe represents their steps in the journey and they hang it on a tree, a high place, indicating they are leaving the past behind and moving towards a bigger and a better future. I think everyone will have his own theory and that is the beauty of MVs like this, everyone will relate to it in a different way.

The motel/laundromat place is called omelas which is a reference to a short story based on a utopia called omelas where everyone is able to live happily while one child lives underground and acts as a scalegoat for all of the negative emotions of the people of omelas. So basically in the mv when they are in omelas one member is off alone and sad while the others are able to be happy. When they are all together they are more somber. By I didn't even catch the cyclical imagery until you mentioned it. And I think it suggests that living in this utopia and being happy is meaningless and repetitive. All of their negative feelings only pile up in the dark and burden that one person. When they walk away from omelas they are leaving the cycle and accepting that life can only move forward and be meaningful if they carry their burdens together.
Of course I'm sure there is more to the MV than it's references to the short story because of the likely connections with their other albums but I think this at least outlines the idea of this particular MV.

Once the citizens of Omelas are old enough to realize the truth of that, they realize that one person's injustice assures the happiness of the rest of the city. However, some citizens leave Omelas and no one knows where they go. The final quote from the book reads, "The place they go towards is a place even less imaginable to most of us than the city of happiness. I cannot describe it at all. It is possible it does not exist. But they seem to know where they are going, the ones who walk away from Omelas." So adding on to what you said about it being a cycle, maybe Jin or Jungkook (idk which one either could make sense) is the child who lives in despair, and the other members are the people who leave Omelas after realizing the truth. This would make sense because of the fact that they all boarded the train and got off at a spot that basically looked unknown. Also, I think that the Sewol Ferry Tragedy plays a HUGE part in this video. On the carousel thing it say "Never Walk Alone", and there were also yellow ribbons tied around the carousel. Yellow was used to symbolize the students that died during the tragedy. "Never Walk Alone" could also mean that people will mourn the deaths together, and never forget (this is partially because politically, or so I've heard, Korea moved on from the tragedy quite fast). Plus, Jimin picked up shoes from the ocean, and the clothes represent all of the memories of the students that died. It could mean that everyone has some sort of baggage??? ALSO when Jungkook is running through that cycle at the end you think he's alone BUT his members join him as they see the train. And there are shots of him sitting alone in the corner of the train carriage but at the end it pans out and shows them all together, showing that he never really was alone. The ones who left Omelas is the short story the mv is based of off. I recommend reading it (its only 4 pages). Its about a perfect city but the catch is one child has to live miserable and isolated for everyone else to be happy. Some people accept this has to happen but others leave the city and just wander off to some other place. I think v is the one who is miserable, and the other members leave Omelas. At the very end of the mv, the far away camera shot shows only 6 members standing there, so i think the tree represents v who killed himself at the beginning. I think the train represents their journey and time together (remember all the trains they hung around in i need u and run when they were happy).
I like your guys' theory when I put it together with two others I've heard. I like your guys' point about the cycling.. The two other theories I heard were the ones regarding the short story Omelas and also how this song could be about suicide (which we know is high in SK). In the sense that the boys seem to be singing about someone they lost or telling someone not to give in to the darkness/coldness of winter and hold on till spring just a little longer. This fits in with the Omelas story in a way with how the town loses some people. BTS is saying that things seem dark sometimes, but keep holding on until it gets better and how no matter how things seems lonely, you never walk alone. Which is where your guys' theory would fit in nicely. Things are a bit cyclical and when things turn bad.... just wait till spring. Keep going a little longer

This was a tribute to the Sewol Ferry accident and the Omelas and Snowpiercer references their solidarity with the families and those affected by the accident. They are also donating all (i think) of the royalties from this song to the families.

I actually have this theory where the boys are basically caught in this endless cycle (like you said about this video). Basically what happens is all the boys go through life facing troubles but always end up being friends, but eventually their individual problems and temptations become too much and they all end up dying except for Jin who was always the one who could deal with his problems the best. Tae is also the one who always faces the hardest trouble and goes through the most and is constantly caught in sin because he is actually being influenced by the devil and is causing the events to repeat. In the end Tae's true nature is revealed to Jin and they end up making a deal for a sort of restart where the boys will get a new life to try again. This explains why all the music videos take place in different worlds, why Jin was alone in prologue because all the boys were gone, why Jin kissed the devil statue (representing Tae) as a form of sealing a deal, why Tae was trapped in a cage in Stigma as his soul is trapped with the devil, and why Jin is always looking beyond as if he realizes what is happening and that they are in a loop. Also in this video Tae is not in the scene where the cake is being thrown at Rapmon or when the group gathers behind Jungkook to go to the train, all the boys are behind him except Tae, and he actually appears in the second shot from the shadows as the last one to join, possibly implying that Tae is only ever there to lead the boys to there temptation and is not truly real (explains why Tae also disappeared in BST when Jin walked up to the statue, and he also may be the one missing at the end in front of the tree). Of course this is just a theory and pretty far fetched but I still think it's interesting.

Its about a perfect city but the catch is one child has to live miserable and isolated for everyone else to be happy. Some people accept this has to happen but others leave the city and just wander off to some other place. I think v is the one who is miserable, and the other members leave Omelas. At the very end of the mv, the far away camera shot shows only 6 members standing there, so i think the tree represents v who killed himself at the beginning. I think the train represents their journey and time together (remember all the trains they hung around in i need u and run when they were happy).

I like your guys' theory when I put it together with two others I've heard. I like your guys' point about the cycling.. The two other theories I heard were the ones regarding the short story Omelas and also how this song could be about suicide (which we know is high in SK). In the sense that the boys seem to be singing about someone they lost or telling someone not to give in to the darkness/coldness of winter and hold on till spring just a little longer. This fits in with the Omelas story in a way with how the town loses some people. BTS is saying that things seem dark sometimes, but keep holding on until it gets better and how no matter how things seems lonely, you never walk alone. Which is where your guys' theory would fit in nicely. Things are a bit cyclical and when things turn bad.... just wait till spring. Keep going a little longer

This was a tribute to the Sewol Ferry accident and the Omelas and Snowpiercer references their solidarity with the families and those affected by the accident. They are also donating all (i think) of the royalties from this song to the families.

I actually have this theory where the boys are basically caught in this endless cycle (like you said about this video). Basically what happens is all the boys go through life facing troubles but always end up being friends, but eventually their individual problems and temptations become too much and they all end up dying except for Jin who was always the one who could deal with his problems the best. Tae is also the one who always faces the hardest trouble and goes through the most and is constantly caught in sin because he is actually being influenced by the devil and is causing the events to repeat. In the end Tae's true nature is revealed to Jin and they end up making a deal for a sort of restart where the boys will get a new life to try again. This explains why all the music videos take place in different worlds, why Jin was alone in prologue because all the boys were gone, why Jin kissed the devil statue (representing Tae) as a form of sealing a deal, why Tae was trapped in a cage in Stigma as his soul is trapped with the devil, and why Jin is always looking beyond as if he realizes what is happening and that they are in a loop. Also in this video Tae is not in the scene where the cake is being thrown at Rapmon or when the group gathers behind Jungkook to go to the train, all the boys are behind him except Tae, and he actually appears in the second shot from the shadows as the last one to join, possibly implying that Tae is only ever there to lead the boys to there temptation and is not truly real (explains why Tae also disappeared in BST when Jin walked up to the statue, and he also may be the one missing at the end in front of the tree). Of course this is just a theory and pretty far fetched but I still think it's interesting.
