I have had that issue before with a new coil install and the distributor tubes causing a leak . Turned out that the tubes were pushed out past the coil condensation pan so all I had to do was push them back in a little . The install and vid came out great Ralph and keep them rolling .

    You are so professional!
I like the part in the second day, where you replaced the transition between coil and plenum in stead of leaving the provisional.

Its impressive as hell that you take the time to make a video in that hot-ass attic while working. Last thing on my mind when I'm up in one is maybe I should film this.

I bet it is. I will keep my gig working on a 10 degree roof over working in a 130 degree attic any day of the week. Ralph earns his money. I would be on my 14 th bottled water after that install.

Where is the pan on this type of coil? Does it have a primary pan? Isn't there a sheet of metal that sits on the bottom of the coil? Is there ever any logical reason to install uncased coils in the old metal frame, instead replacing of the whole as you have done in this video? BTW they want to charge 3k to do this. Thanks.

The reason to put the new coil in the old case is that it saves a lot of labor. It has to be the identical coil. Often you are taking the new coil out of the case and sliding the old one out of its case and slip in the new one. Braze the lines, draw the vacuum and charge it and you are done. You don’t have to disturb the transition or plenum.
Leave the new case in the attic Incase you need it for a warranty claim.

Takes a lot of effort to make a video while on the job and trying to get done. But Thanks. Would like to have seen the final shot all complete as you finally exited the attic.

Why did you go to a slab coil ? Here in this part of Texas we see a lot of slab coils vs A coils it is a lot of big transitions. Just did a coil change out went from 4/5 ton A coil to a 5 ton slab used almost 3 sheets of metal.

You do nice metal work. Can you show what you use to bend your metal on the jobsite?

+Texas Made thanks so much for the complement. I have a sheet metal series on making transitions in the field that shows how I make them. Check out my sheet metal playlist

T&N Services LLC. my system just stopped cooling. I have a 2014 Goodman compressor connected to a Goodman coil. This is connected to a 1995 (York?) gas furnace. I think the newer Goodman stuff is 5 ton where the original was 4. Also my old HVAC guy did not register the unit so it’s out of warranty I’m told, since it was just 5 years... so, do I get a new Aspen coil installed with a new plenum for about $1,800? Or, do I want a new Rheem full system for $6,500? I just got a new drain pan and float switch which seems perfect but my new guy wants to replace this, he says he buys this in a kit, that part sounds like BS to me. Thoughts about a new coil (which I assume comes in a new enclosure) or a new system?
