    To make a 3d printable of Robbies transport vehicle

      Yes , now if we can just find some with the time to do the basic CAD work. It would take me a month of work to get every thing just right and design to be 3d printed.

    Hi John how big would Robby's transportation car need to be to fit the walmart robby or the xplus vinyl robby would it need to be 24inches or 20 or 21 inches not sure what do you think size should be?

    • @Robothut
      @Robothut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From the tip of the lower front grill to the tip of the upper rear fin the Jeep would have to be 24 inches long
      "610 mm" to be in scale with the 14 inch tall Walmart Robby.

    I would love to have visited your shop when you were still open. This reminds me of the time I was visiting the Science Fiction Museum near LA in the 70's. They had the original Robby in his jeep. I wanted to get a good picture, but Robby's head needed turning toward the camera. The manager helped me rotate his head and I got the shot. I'll never forget the feeling of touching the original prop from the movie!

    If you make the plans available, I plan(!) on making a walmart-scaled jeep from wood. With everything going on right now, I have the time. On the original Robby/Jeep miniature made for the movie, the 3 passengers were sculpted and cast in a hard rubber.

      As a side note, the draftsman who drew the original plans of the Robby Jeep for the MGM art department, was Frank Paul Sylos. He has tons of art directing credits for films.

    Great video, just an idea for anyone who would like to make a ride on version, for the drive mechanism you could use a second hand mobility scooter with a few alterations to fit the jeep.
    the main thing about using a scooter is that all the parts are there, motor wheels battery and charger all of it.
    Cheers.

    • @Robothut

    I'm curious why, on your miniatures, you didn't just take a small complete Robby and place it in the front. It appears you had Robby only from the torso up.

    • @Robothut
      @Robothut  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      On the 24 inch robby jeep it is the from the body up, just like in the movie. The only time robby was full head to toe was in the special effect walking out scene. But in my miniature it left room for the speaker digital playback unit and the radar motion detector.

    Robby is my all time fav robot from my all time fav movie. I notice somewhere in your shop you have a model of Robby on a shelf and the model has a very yellowed dome. I have one about that size and the dome has yellowed and become brittle with age. Mine is a Comet brand model and is a vac form kit with metal parts, I was wondering if yours is the same kit ?. I bought it for a King's ransom in the late 80's or early 90's I think...it's 1/8th scale and was a devilishly difficult thing to build.
    I do enjoy the Forbidden Planet soundtrack as well, I have it in my music collection.

  • @lurkerrekrul

    I know it wouldn't be practical, but I can't help feeling just a little disappointed that there's not a full Robby mounted in the jeep.

    • @Robothut
      @Robothut  ปีที่แล้ว

      True. Not even in the movie. The scene where you see Robby walk out of the jeep was a set up shot, where they removed the battery powered front wheel drive unit and just put a flat board in there, for Robby to stand on. I guess if a rear drive and steering unit had been used the front could have just two wheels that did not steer far too the sides. the rest would be flat for the Robby to stand on.

    • @Robothut
      @Robothut  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Reading blue prints are more involved than that. You would have to look at all the profiles and keep track of the dimenitions they show to come up with the numbers you want. Save the images and print them out as large as you can. It will be help in coming up with dimentions. When I built the full scale jeep , I printed out the blue print images on clear printing material, then used a over head projector to enlarge them to full scale. You could do the same for any smaller scale as well. Its a lot of work, but all the information is there.
