  • Check out this video where Tim and the team go across the state to do a tile re-roof project in Cape Coral, Florida where Hurricane Ian caused a lot of damage.
Tim shows some of the differences between Florida Building Code and High Velocity Hurricane Zone, also discussing using non-corrosive metals when near the water, why a tile roof with a poly-fiber system should not be recovered and why tiles should be foamed on when possible, not screwed on.

Why can't you just put the peel and stick over the old peel and stick? Can you guys work in Venice? I'm almost ready for a new roof. Thanks

Tile underlayment is polyfiber, the only way to get adhesion to it would be to prime the entire roof with asphaltic primer first; however this does not meet wind uplift requirements for Florida Building Code.
If you run into an SA (self-adhered) you can now mechanically fasten a Polyanchor HV over it, but this is brand new and didn't exist when we did this video.
Yes, we can work in Venice (just need to get an AirBnB for our team when we work on the west coast of FL), call our office when you are ready (305) 687-6521.

Tim, I saw one of your Miami videos where you put down felt AND the peel & stick. Is the combination of these two what you call HVHC upgrade? If, so then applying the peel & stick directly to the deck is the standard FBC code? Is this because it's a re-roof and your not required to do the HVHC because its not a new home?

Yes, the combo is HVHZ (high velocity hurricane zone). Self-adhered (SA) direct to the deck meets standard FBC and does not meet HVHZ, this is primarily outdated on behalf of HVHZ as the updated building code is expected to require a heavier base sheet than #30 to be mechanically fastened OR SA direct to the deck (which has a higher wind uplift rating). The reason to avoid SA direct to the deck is #1 it makes it really hard to remove when re-roofing... and will increase future demo costs and #2 you are getting less mils of thickness under your roofing system.
Polyglass developed a new base layer to take care of the wind uplift issues with #30 called PolyAnchor HV and also has a more expensive / heavier base sheet used primarily under flat roofs - which is required in Boca Raton when installing a mechanically fastened base layer called Polyglass Elastobase.
