Going Clear totally eye opening. Scientology liked to keep their beliefs secret and for good reason. It’s bat shit crazy and should not even be considered a religion
As a prank, I once gave them a call. The woman I spoke with kept trying to see if I was having issues in my life and I wasn't, I just was asking for more information about them. I had to struggle to find any major conflicts in my life that she seemingly wanted to hear about (my life isn't perfect but I'm quite the strong person and can find my own solutions or time itself is the solution. I didn't have anything major going on in my life). Everything I said to her was somehow twisted to be the fault of my family. I lived with my mom and her boyfriend at the time and while I wasn't crazy about the boyfriend, I took offense to her trying to tell me my mom was the source of my issues. I knew what they were trying to do, cut me off from her, and realizing what was going on, I hung up. It felt...like something out of the Twilight Zone, perhaps? I can see how they could easily rope someone less susceptible in and distance them from their loved ones and hold them emotionally hostage. Very odd and scary to actually be a witness to how it could happen.
@Nolan Is Innocent Dividing me from my family was NOT what I was expecting. You can join a religion (I would not call them a religion though, this is a cult. Frankly, both then and now, I'm not crazy about religion but I wanted to actually speak with a representative directly just to hear what they had to say. The prank part was calling with no intention of joining, but still being respectful and asking actual questions. The shock was the emotional manipulation of which I wasn't aware of at the time as being one of their practices. One addition after rereading my original comment: I think you may have misunderstood as to if I knew they were going to be emotionally manipulative before making the call, but I wasn't. Yes, I'm actually giving them the benefit of the doubt) but predominately that giving money and a lot of it was a very important thing. Being told to shut out those that don't respect your beliefs is one thing...but to instantly jump to actively saying, regardless of the matter, that I need to cut my mom out of my life? Being able to sit down and jump into a conversation with strangers of all ages and it not being weird.

There are sooo many reasons why "13th" is one of the best documentaries of all time (of which include Ava Duvernay who directed "Selma" and "When They See Us"). But also the timing of that documentary added to it. 01. The act of killing
Minding The Gap. Heart wrenching. Beautiful and sad film. So incredibly well done. ♥️
Now this was a great list! Thanks WatchMojo
Who Killed Little Gregory? Three Identical Strangers and Mommy Dearest (about Gypsy Rose Blanchard) deserve to be on the list.
I appreciate this list guys. Thanks :).
Three Identical Strangers is up there for me.
You missed the making of a murderer, evil genius, abducted in plain sight, defiant one's and wild wild country
What about making a murderer? When that came out it was really fun how everyone had there own take on if he did it or didn't do it.
Netflix has so many amazing true crime doc's. Making a Murderer is still the best.
I was thinking the same thing but it’s kinda more of a series than a true documentary film
True. Living in Wisconsin at that time was a whole nother thing realizing how corrupt the WI system especially is. Plus, you would go to literally any bar or pub and people of all ages would have their own theories. It was magical. Being able to sit down and jump into a conversation with strangers of all ages and it not being weird.
Its a horribly done documentary and its wrought with confirmation bias. Look up and read about the evidence the doc ignores and tell me Avery is innocent. A good documentary should look at both sides of the story.
You did it again watchmojo Male an awesome 😎 list!
LA 92 is one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. It definitely deserved an honorable mention at the least.
My top picks:
1. Blackfish (never watched a documentary multiple times except for this one)
2. Three Identical Strangers
3. Exit through the Gift Shop
4. Jiro Dreams of Sushi
5. Amy
6. Fyre
7. Searching for Sugar Man
13th and The Act of Killing definitely in my top 10. Good list tho.
I'd put Three Identical Strangers in my top 10.
your voice is amazing
keep us hooked
"Blackfish" was great. "The Imposter" was, too.
Yessss these are both so good. And blackfish is so important for people to see.
My girlfriend watches blackfish like once a month
@@jessloo5969 You mean the work of total fiction? Most of the people they interviewed for the movie itself have spoken out against it Invalidity! Its PETA Fiction.....
Your girlfriend is stupid. That's not a documentary. It's all lies.
The problem with the Imposter was that the movie based on it was a little bit better, Changeling
Three Identical Strangers is a masterpiece of documentary film making. Absolutely fascinating.
That man, mr rogers, was such a wonderful person on screen and off. I hope whatever heaven he believes in, he makes it there.
I loved that movie. And the Tom Hanks one too
Dear Zachery is amazing - extremely difficult to watch but amazing. I also adored, Tell Me Who I am. Another amazing yet difficult documentary.
Turns out we have very similar tastes when it comes to documentary films. I absolutely loved those films as well. Check out three identical strangers and the keepers if you get a chance. I have a feeling you may like those too.
Me: *sees Alain prost in intro
Also me: this is what I came for
This was a great list :) But you omitted True Cost! An exceptional documentary about the fashion industry and it's social and environmental impact. I would have loved to see Albatross mentioned too :)
Evil Genius was crazy good!!
TamaraEarthlady1 definitely
Sugar man ugh amazing!! That whole album is incredible.
Icarus was so good! I wasn’t expecting the turn the documentary took.
yes !! you missed wild wild country !! that is a great documentary !!
Tell Me Who I Am !!! is an extremely interesting, sickening and cinematically and poetically beautiful documentary
Looking this up right now, thank you!
It was beautiful and heartbreaking! It was so well done I felt like I was feeling the twins emotions myself..
Thank you. As a twin myself, this hit the spot.
Glad to see 'Leaving Neverland' was not mentioned.
Stevie, Three Identical Strangers, and The Cove were all great!
Stevie is a fantastic doc.
The Cove was 2009, not in this date range.
Thanks for recognizing how powerful 13th was, I also enjoyed Abducted In Plain Sight, The Two Killings Of Sam Cooke & Fritzl as well
Missed "Winter on fire" here! It was amazing!!
Man I am blown away as I watch the voice of the iconic narrator of watchmojo
The scariest thing about "The Act of Killing". The credits. Most of the crew weren't named. Probably for fear of very real retaliation,
I suggest Laboratory Greece (2019)
There are sooo many reasons why "13th" is one of the best documentaries of all time (of which include Ava Duvernay who directed "Selma" and "When They See Us"). But also the timing of that documentary added to it. It came out in October 2016, one month before the divisive 2016 election, and watching it back then make you feel so much hatred towards an American political and justice system that has not learned its lesson to this day...
Thanks for recommending ” The Act of Killing”!!!:)
Leaving Restrepo off the list was a huge mistake. Watch it, and tell me you don’t feel the fear, the excitement, the tragedy, and Camaraderie the men feel over a 15 month deployment to a valley of chaos.
that one was heartbreaking
One of the most intense documentaries ever...
Thank you so much for you efforts
Boy band con is extremely underrated. Should be on this list.
I love this channel
I'm not a big documentary guy, but the history behind "Evil Genius" should be able to get them on this list.
Heeeeeeey! Nice to see the Watchmojo lady! You are a great narrator, I love your tone! Do you do audio books by any chance?
A plastic ocean
Before the flood
- i would give them honorable mention
Was hoping you'd have included THE BIGGEST LITTLE FARM on the list. A must see!
No Mas Bebes is a heartbreaking look at how eugenics was practiced in California. It should be on this list. I watched it at Cal Poly SLO during my undergrad. We had an Q&A with director Renee Tajima-Peña afterwards. One of the most eye opening experiences of my life.
That Amy movie really had an impact on how.I appreciate music. RIP Amy, we will never forget how unique and special you are
Three identical Strangers needs to be on this list. As well as Making a Murderer
Making a murderer is a series not a film
“They Shall Not Grow Old” at 11:57 is incredibly moving
DEAR ZACHARY
From 2008, so not from this decade. Really good though.
Calle ahhh damnit you’re right. But yes so good
That is a movie you can only watch once, and it SCARS!
I push this doc on everybody, never went through so many emotions in a single viewing. Was really bummed it didn’t make the list until I saw that it’s from 2008.
Ughhh heartbreaking
Taxi to the Darkside better be on best Documentary of 2000-2009 list because that was one of the craziest Docs i have watched.
Has anyone seen the documentary “I Like Killing Flies”? If you haven’t I would recommend it.
What is it about
Tom Blomster yes, please tell
Good job guys!
How to Die in Oregon should have been somewhere on this list.
Roland Deshain this doc has made a permanent mark in me. Truly amazing.
@@fermay13 same! Changed my views on death with dignity laws.
Great list! I also enjoyed Marwencol, Mommy Dead & Dearest & Winnebago Man
"Won't You Be My Neighbor" made me cry tears of joy. Mr. Rogers was basically like a third parent to me.
Love your voice !
The Barkley Marathon: The Race that Eats It’s Young
Ryan Parker I just fell upon this one browsing Netflix. Excellent!!!
really surprised “jiro dreams of sushi” isn’t on here
Had to watch that for a college class. Was amazing. Changed my life
Next TOP DOCUSERIES
I was thinking that
I have such a difficult time just watching regular movies because they’re a re-enactment and not the real thing, I prefer documentaries.
Over the last few years I have certainly come to agree with this 😊
The inventor, an HBO documentary about Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes, it's actually full on youtube, very interesting
I hate her fake voice so much
@@countrygirlbeth1 I do as well but it's amazing how much was done withought anyone questioning their desitions
The book, Bad Blood is much better. The documentary just skims the surface.
By far one of the best!
This is one of the first times that seeing someone’s face after only hearing their voice for years didn’t totally shock or disappoint me. You look exactly how you sound, as strange as that is to say! Haha
Won't You Be My Neighbor?
Jiro: Dreams of Sushi
Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened
Life Itself
Exit Through the Gift Shop
The Biggest Little Farm
Don't F**k with Cats was a HUGE surprise for me this year.
"Life Overtakes Me" disturbed me for days
It also completely blew my mind
My favorite documentaries are 13th (2016), Amy (2015), What’s wrong Miss Simone? (2015), A Ballerina’s Tale (2015), Autism in Love (2015), Clive Davis: The Soundtrack of my life (2017), Diana: In her own words (2017), and The Imagineering Story (2019)
“The Great Hack” is very enlightening
Omgoodness! Wild, Wild Country was insane!
Mind blowing!!!!
