His life revolved around revenge for 13 years, once he found out he was Ifrit he had nothing left. Absolutely would have killed himself without them to give him purpose again
so here 2 questions : Q :Clive, dead or alive ? A : the side quest near the end of the game with Jill, it give you different interpretation, Jill line : "no matter how dark the night dawn will always come, and that's you will always come for me Clive" ,this line is literally the game end scene. so you could say clive is alive Q : did Joshua really wrote the book in the post credit cutscene ? A : the side qeust with Harpocrates it give you different interpretation when he gave Clive his quill and told him : "i hope one day you will write with it", well in the game Clive took on Cid name after his death, so you can say that Clive wrote the book using his brother name to honor his memory. *bonus : with new DLC Clive well have Leviathan power and become complete, so can it be that they did the side quests to hint that Clive is Alive, because they ran out of budget for the game and could not do Leviathan in the game, so they needed to change the story, but somehow leave it open up in cause they decide to make Leviathan as DLC if the game sold well... the purpose of the ambiguous ending of the game is a business one, that what i think.
Narratively, FFXVI deserves every bit of praise that it has gotten and more. It is a very high bar that they set moving forward. At the same time, the combat system and other nuances of the game made it feel more like an "Inspired by Final Fantasy" game than a Final Fantasy game itself. You could tell a few hours in that the combat system was created by someone from outside of SE. Still love the game, just felt "off".
It felt like a final fantasy to me. There's more to FF than turn based combat. They nailed the story and world building. The only things I found lacking from the gameplay were itemization (prior to NG+) and side quests. Regarding the latter, I would have liked it if they were more focused on revealing the history of the world. There are only a few that address the history of the fallen or the bearers, and only vaguely.

I’m not much of a gamer myself so I probably wouldn’t have ever experienced this in full, so I’m glad I got to see it’s story played out with you. I choose to believe Clive made it back to Jill one day, and that he lived out the rest of his days with her and they managed his curse until the end (hopefully he wouldn’t need to use much magick with Ultima gone, but who knows). My fav character had to be Joshua, though I half wish he wasn’t considering I figured almost immediately he’d die by the end, as do most characters who bare the moniker of Pheonix in most stories (X-Men’s Jean Grey being another example). Nevertheless, he was such a kind soul and I loved his relationship with Clive, and he was pretty cute with Dion (of course Dion is taken but I can dream 😝). I loved the whole concept of Dominants in this story, the whole bonded creature/Mythical creature shapeshifter trope is a weakness of mine so seeing it utilised so well in this one was amazing. All in all, a spectacular ride, thanks very much for showing it to us!
I don't think it did. It never mentioned such, only that it planted the seeds for humanity and gifted the world with magic (along with the mothercrystals and such).
Ultima ddnt create the world. He definitely created humans though, and the mother crystals. I dont think he created magic, but gave magic to some humans (bearers and dominants). Ultima is a god, but not THE God. Not sure if FF16s world has a god who created the world, much is left unexplained, including the lost eikon. Hopefully we get some DLC that fleshes out some things, including Leviathan, and more of Ultima's kinds past, a name of the race for Ultimas kinda would be nice.

I really enjoyed this game but I'm kind of tired of final fantasy games ending with the protagonist sacrificing themselves to save the world. I'm hoping that either Clive or Joshua somehow survived so that they can put out DLC. Given how dark and bleak the rest of the game is, the least they could have done was allowed one of the three remaining icons survived the final battle.

It's Leviathan, referenced as "The Lost" by Joshua when he find the Ancient Circle of Malius in one of the ancient ruins in Ash. 8 Eikons for 8 Elements: Phoenix - Fire Shiva - Ice Ramuh - Thunder Garuda - Wind Titan - Earth Bahamut- Light Odin - Darkness Leviathan - Water Ifrit is the second element of fire which is capable of absorbing all the other elements, and so becoming the perfect Vessel for Ultima. Leviathan will probably be included in a DLC which will covers its story as why is it referenced as "The Lost".

I'm going to be honest with you guys but this story was pretty cliche and predictable. Ultima is probably to worst villain in all of final fantasy with his stupid monotone voice, zombie looking face and ridiculous AI like vocabulary that doesn't even fit in with the high fantasy setting. He elicited no emotional response from me because of how boring he was, he didn't have any personality traits that would make the player despise him as a character. He was equivalent to fighting a highly advance AI trying to manipulate things behind the scenes to get his desired outcome and that just does nothing for a story in this setting. He definitely was no Kuja, Kefka, Sephiroth, or even Ultimecia. I really enjoyed the political drama part of the game but that kind of died out in the middle of the story.
The people who enjoyed this game were people that can pay attention to all the dialog. I found that it was too overwhelming for me. the pacing was also very bad
I agree that the big bad of the game was... mediocre. It barely serves as the driving point for the protagonists to go against (but then, the protagonist's struggle kinda makes up for the mediocre villain, so it's kinda whatever). Kinda wished that they went with the female Ultima that appears in FF:T and FFXIV (Ultima, the High Seraph). Or anything else, really.
