I miss when logging in made you feel captivated. Now it's so uninspiring with the expansion's music and screen. GW1 still has a great title screen, I log in here and there to appreciate that greatness.
I could try to explain this, but there is a dedicated GW2Wiki page about this: wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Customized_soundtrack For you important is what is listed as testing: Testing To test how this feature works, create a playlist called MainMenu. Then export that playlist to the Music folder mentioned above in Customizing step 1. Load the game and the selected music should now play on the character selection screen. Just download the old track somewhere (e.g. this video)
Ahh I remember when this game came out and I was hyped for it. Years later. Thousands of promises and guarantees unfulfilled and two completely lifeless expansions. What a fucking shit-heap.
Not into writing a novel, and it truly does have none - no good things about it, that is. If you're a GW vet, your standards are set high, and a game such as GW2 never attempted to reach the levels of good the original boasted.
MiriBON Alright, first of all. you should judge a game by itself, not by another game's standards. Secondly, you could have named at least one thing, couldn't you? If you're "Not into writing a novel", then there must have been SOMETHING you could have said that's actually reasonable from an objective standpoint. So, how about it?
That does not apply to this case. Given how Anet declared the game had the 'things you loved about GW' - which sadly turned out to be a disingenuous promo line at best, and blatant misleading of the fan base at worst - comparison is more than warranted, and perfectly justified. How, and for what reason should you accept a lesser product given the heights the original had reached in terms of greatness? Moreover, had they named the game 'World of Guilds' to make it clear it's altogether a different game, the resentment of the prev game's player base would've been far smaller. However, by tacking on the name "Guild Wars TWO" (or "TOO", for comedy effect), the game is touting to be a CONTINUATION of GW, which is simply not true, because stealing a few bits of lore does not a successor make. But fine, here are just a few things that irk ME, a GW vet that is/was heavy on the pvp side of the game, and enjoyed solo farming as well as high-end dungeons on GW, about the game: 1) No real pvp mode that would allow for a quality TEAM-ORIENTED pvp experience - chars are designed as a one-man army, while the 5v5 pvp mode is too heavily focused on the moba-inspired rotations and capture modes, which, albeit fun in the version seen on GW, feel extremely underwhelming on GW2 - maps too small, and rather than having the focus on team fighting and forcing the enemy to respond to splits, you sit on points or constantly move around instead. Great for moba fans, not so great for anyone who loved classic team fighting that made GW pvp as fun as it is/was. 2) Complete removal of the concept of heal/prot monks ando ther support, as well as of mesmer and ranger-based shutdown as seen on GW - the entire concept of support and shutting down that support/aiding it has been simplified to the point of having nothing to do with what was used on GW - and what worked LIKE A CHARM. Supporting in GW2 is reserved to AoE shouts and fields, and without real support, genuine shutdown (in the form of rupts and hexes) has been removed, too, in the process eliminating a great aspect of the former game that made pvp as unique and fun as it was. 3) Lol at limiting rangers to pet builds. If you ever played a ranger on GW, you'll understand how much of a downgrade that was. Same for mesmers. 4) Too abundant/too many skill effects everywhere, leading to cluster fks whenever 4 or more players engage in a skirmish on a point. Kinda kills the entire idea of having a 'skill-based pvp' when you you can't tell exactly what skill was used when and by whom, and when spamming is rewarded and even necessary to overcome the highly defensive specs of certain builds. 5) The glacial pace of skill patches, general balance and bug fixing have always been abysmally slow, and often not even addressing core problems, making a bad pvp situation even worse. 6) Removal of energy management - another important element of skill from GW removed for ??? reasons. 7) WvW = zerg vs zerg, or in short, pve with real players as extras. 8) Greatly repetitive pve with no chance of farming using own builds like the case was in GW (55hp monks and SS necros, 605hp monks, charge warrior runners, obsidian ele and w/e warrior fow farmer builds, and so on). Moreover, the dungeons in GW2 feel anytghing but 'dungeony', as opposed to GW, where dungeons felt grand, long and had a progression to it. Not to mention the team-focus therein, too. As you wanted sth from an objective point of view (although I consider quite a few of the above points being objective, too) - the game feels highly unrewarding in order to force you into the shop for items to improve various aspects, from stats to lucky %. It also has an extremely one-dimensional pve, with every zone looking as if it was recycled from some other area, the only change being different environment colours and music. The quests are boring and extremely subpar. 'Dynamic events' being anything but dynamic in the true sense of word. No real farming possible in the sense of making your own builds to get a particular item - the generalized item drop rate was a horrendous element to implement in that regard. The in-game shop being overemphasized, while it was underemphasized and underutilized on GW. Can't be arsed to list more, because this has already turned into a mini novel, as feared. I used to post a lot on GW2 forums, and I have already said everything there was to say there, which is why I no longer have any wish or energy left to repeat myself each and every time a random persons wonders what can possibly be my beef with GW2. Do know that what I've typed here does not even scratch the surface. Anyhow, I rest my case, because I do realise the game can be perfectly fine if you were never big on GW, or if you haven't played the game in its heydays; but for someone who has, and someone who could appreciate the game for its pvp and pve ideas that were unprecedented during that time, and largely remain without a true successor to this day, I dare say GW2 is a failure through and through. Anet were pioneers with a passion to make a great pvp game when they made GW,a nd they succeeded at it like no other.
I preferred this login screen.
i still miss it to this day.. goosebumps everytime i loaded it up just because of this amazing soundtrack
This and the GW1 main theme, SO GOOD. They should never have changed it. Or at least have the option to change it back.

What is the name of this song?
Guild Wars 2 OST - 01. Overture
music was composed by Jeremy Soule and Julian Soule.

About the only thing good about the game, sadly.
Would you mind giving some negative arguments about the game? I'm interested in what you have to say, honestly.
"Has none."
