Would an organisation hire a contract manager if they already have legal counsel? What would be the point of having both?

      Great question here.
It probably deserves more than just a comment answer but here goes.
It depends. A Contract Manager will typically be a non-layer but someone who has a legal background (degree or knowledge from work experience). They are suited to complex issues of law, large customer/client contracts, acting as a GC or Senior Counsel. In this scenario, a Contract Manager can alleviate much of the day-to-day volume work, sit closely with Procurement, and manage that review process from start to finish.
A Contract Manager can free up the time of Counsel to focus on bigger ticket work or more complex work.
If there is a need for this then a Contract Manager will always be a good fit in your org even if you have Legal Counsel.

How easy is procurement to learn? I am going for a entry-level procurement specialist role and interviewing next week and wanted to see if I can get any pointers. Thank you!

Fairly straightforward at a basic level.
I’ve got a bunch of resources over on substack that might help you: worldofprocurement.substack.com/
