The line “mother’s gonna put all her fears into you” was really profound for me. I never did the things I always wanted to do for that reason. I don’t think my parents meant to to that, but regardless they did. As my kids grew up, I always remembered that line whenever they asked to do something. I would ask myself, “why do I not want them to have that experience? Is it because of my fear?” I never want to have my kids miss out on amazing experiences because of me. You know what? They are having all of the amazing experiences I wished I had had at their age.
If ever there was a band whose albums were meant to be listened to from beginning to end, Pink Floyd is it. The Wall is a narrative rock opera, really, and your interpretation is right! Listen to the whole album in a single sitting, and it will all fall into place. Cheers!
This album released in my senior year in high school and I had a decent pair of headphones. I cannot count the times I listened to this passion play lying on my bed.
This is one of the best songs on the album I think, straight from Roger Waters' heart. His dad died in the war so he (or his alter-ego Pink) was brought up by his mum. Maybe she was over-protective, didn't prepare him to go out into the world but wanted to keep him close to home. It's a selfish attitude so she doesn't have to live alone. I like how the organ comes in so quietly, holding a single note for several bars.
you have to realize he grew up in post WWII England after the Blitzkreig bombed them. He lost his father and it's pretty easy to understand why she was overprotective of him. He was all she had left. The thing about this album is it needs to be taken as a complete album to fully realize just how powerful and sad it really is. He built "the wall" out of the bad things he had happen to him to insulate him from the rest of the world. One of my favorite albums of all time and if you can be sure to check out Roger's concert Bluray of this album. It fills in a lot of the gaps with powerful visuals and narration.
@CEOofYTisPureEvil What "law?" It's a fricking reaction channel. Most reactors pause songs to reduce the risk that their videos get taken down. If you want to hear songs without interruptions, avoid reaction channels.
I can so relate to this, Greg. Mine is 88. At the age of 59, I am finally considering therapy, but I am wary of unleashing a lifetime of issues. Love to you, and I hope you are able to find yourself and become whole again.
@CEOofYTisPureEvil Your reply is totally irrelevant to the post that you replied to, but I will respond by saying that I think Harri is one of the deepest, most thoughtful reactors out there. I subscribe to around 70 reactors, and I think Harri is my favorite.
@CEOofYTisPureEvil You posted a comment about the reactor under a very personal comment by a viewer. Your comment about Harri has no place under Greg's post because your criticism of the reactor is irrelevant to Greg's very personal and even painful post about his mother.
Sometimes love can be the key that sets you free and sometimes love is a prison that stifles and suffocates the soul. This so much reminded me of my own situation with my own mother
You need to react to the entire album. It’s a concept album. In sequence, in one sitting, and definitely with quality headphones. You will NOT regret it. It’s epic, and it’s a music staple.
@CEOofYTisPureEvil I get ya. Guess I look at these reactions like the dozens of times I introduced people to pink floyd. Sometimes they get it straight away, sometimes they need to listen to more and sometimes they never get it.....It's a bit like patience or understanding.
You have to remember the context of the song. All of the members of Floyd were growing up thru WW2...bombings, air raid sirens...most of their fathers off to war. They were left with a mother to raise them....protect them....instill all their fears within them....mother should I build a wall.... In the end...mother did it need to be so high....IE the wall...
Drummer Nick Mason had some issues with all the time-signature changes on Mother, so they replaced him with the late great Jeff Porcaro (Toto) for the final studio version.
The Wall is a work of genius, and seeing Roger Waters' The Wall concert (I think it's on Netflix) is a spectacular experience. And if you can find it, the concert in Berlin in 1989 just after the Berlin Wall came down is also incredible!
Having heard this music for years, the Wall can be hard to explain. You should check out the movie. It's so odd, such great music though. Pink (in the movie) is raised by a single mother who lost her husband during WWII.
Except for the part where he shaves off his *****. I might have been just a little high at the time, but it still troubles me till this day. Absolutely agree - in sequence and the movie makes it.
I didn't really care that much for the movie. But watching his live Wall concert with all the visuals and stuff is very good at filling in the context around the album's songs.
That guitar uses a very simple chord progression but played magnificently. You will also notice the signature Roger Waters pause between lines in order to allow the listeners the opportunity to reflect. Beautiful song.
If you really heard it for the first time, it's unbelievable how exactly you got it. Congratulations. great response to this song! Thanks a lot - I was pleased ...
I think your analysis is spot on. I really miss my mother. She was not overprotective. She was very honest. She prayed for her three children. Thank you Harri!
You nailed the emotional dynamic of this song. The deeper understanding of the Mother character, which you couldn't get without having heard the whole album, is that the boy's father was killed in combat. The mother is clinging on tightly to her son because she's been traumatized by her own losses, and this trauma affects the son in turn.
I think it's about mother's in general. Always wanting the best for you but not wanting to let go at the same time. In consequence " putting all her fears into you ".
I just wanted to let you know harri I look forward to your show every day I love music so much all kinds of music and I look forward to seeing your responses you make my day thanks harri my friend ❤
Love PF and bought this album just after it came out, and your right about the controlling mom, helping to build the wall, if you get a chance listen to the whole thing, it will make more sense and you won't be disappointed...♡
When this came out I would listen to this front to back with headphones LOUD. The Movie is a MUST watch for you now if you want the entire story. (You won't need drugs but it won't hurt) 😎
Lovely to see you reacting again - especially Pink Floyd. I would highly recommend watching the film The Wall and then enjoying a deep dive into the whole album. Keep up the great work. Love and best wishes from North Wales UK
Man, you really need to listen to the whole album to see this song in context. Pink Floyd's music is about telling a story and each song is just one part.
My favorite Pink Floyd song!! Since you don't know it I'm assuming you haven't seen the movie.... which I highly recommend. I'm a mother of one child (a son) and always thought about how to protect him and keep him safe; and at the same time letting him find own voice and choices. Such a fine line. So proud of what the boy (now 25 ) is becoming.
The great thing about Pink Floyd is occasionally the bassist played acoustic guitar. I also really love Roger Waters acoustic playing on ‘Pigs 🐖on the Wing Pt. 1’, &. ‘Pt.2’ .
New to the channel, but loving your reactions. You're spot on with your reading of the lyrics and feel of the song. If you ever get a chance, watch the full movie 'The Wall.'
The songs from the album are specific to the character 'Pink' in the story from The Wall. Pink's father was killed in the war when he was very young, and his distraught mother is overprotective and bitter and raises Pink using fear to control him.
EVERYTHING on The Wall plays on multiple levels. This song may be the best example of that. It definitely has the literal, personal interpretation. But it can also be interpreted as an allegory for the how the state approaches its relationship with citozens. Education with its students. All the ways in which society seeks to control individuality through fear. It should be moted this was released in 1982, predicting the current pervasive culture of safetyism that has been present since the 00s, certainly the 10s
Like all songs from The Wall, and Dark Side Of The Moon, they can only really be understood in the context of the whole album. It is indeed about a controlling mother, but that is just part of the story.
Finally, someone that gets the song. I have seen many react to this and not really listen to the lyrics. They think it's a song about a beautiful mother/son relationship. You nailed it, it's not.
Momma's gonna to make all your nightmares come true Momma's gonna put all of her fears into you Devastating. I'm no Dixie Chicks fan but Natalie maines a couple of years back put out an absolutely stunning version of this song. Highly recommend people check it out if you haven't yet. There's also some TH-cam videos out there of Pearl jam doing this song live and they are also great.
I love your reactions to My favorite band Pink Floyd! After The Wall the band started breaking, I can’t recommend any full album after The Wall, but there are a few songs here and there after Roger Waters left. I would recommend Echoes for you! Please give that a listen 🥰
Go back a bit in their career to the album before Dark Side Of The Moon & give a listen to Feerless from the album Meddle. Or from the same album, if you are up for a 25 minute mind blowing extravaganza listen to Echoes.
“Mother did it need to be so high”- did the wall need to be so high; do I really need so much protection from the world? How can I live a good life with so much emotional anxiety?
First off you did great deciphering the meaning. You gotta listen to the whole WALL album. This song did a great job of describing what most Mothers do because its there nature to be protective. It also goes into the way God created us & what happens when natural order is ignored & often rejected. The order of Man, Woman & Child & the family in general is so important to the mental & physical aspect of life. Chaos vs Logos
I just listen to another younger couple react to this song. They didn't get it. They thought the mother was some kind of hero but you are 100% correct. If you listen to entire LP, "The Wall" or go watch the movie, you will see what happen to him because of Mother. He is going to end up as a Head Case.
Because The Wall is a concept album (a rock opera, really), listening to a song here or there is kind of like trying to understand a movie by only watching two or three scenes. It really needs to be listened to a few times straight through. Then the individual "scenes" have context and make so much more sense.
after you react to all the songs on the Wall album, watch the movie and see what they linked the songs to the movie - Pink Floyd is made to listen (headphones or SSR) to in the dark in a beanbag chair
Perhaps one reason for the 'rollercoaster' is that the music alternates between 4/4 or common rock time and 3/4 or waltz timing. Lullaby's for example might tend to be in a 3/4 time. It has a softer, gentler feel to it for most material and is a factor in this song.
congratulations! You're the first reactor who understands the song!
The line “mother’s gonna put all her fears into you” was really profound for me. I never did the things I always wanted to do for that reason. I don’t think my parents meant to to that, but regardless they did. As my kids grew up, I always remembered that line whenever they asked to do something. Makes you a great mum
Well said
Well put.
You nailed the interpretation.
You are absolutely right on about your interpretation of this song.
If ever there was a band whose albums were meant to be listened to from beginning to end, Pink Floyd is it.
The Wall is a narrative rock opera, really, and your interpretation is right!
Listen to the whole album in a single sitting, and it will all fall into place.
Cheers!
👍
I say exactly this all the time, but about every Pink Floyd album! 😁
This album released in my senior year in high school and I had a decent pair of headphones. I cannot count the times I listened to this passion play lying on my bed.
Most reactors don't understand but you got it exactly. Pink Floyd is an experience. I will look for more of your PF reactions
Awesome reaction! Thank you!!! 😃
You get into Floyd, and you won't be the same as when you went in.
You got it. Meaning of the lyrics, arrangement, everything.
This is one of the best songs on the album I think, straight from Roger Waters' heart. His dad died in the war so he (or his alter-ego Pink) was brought up by his mum. This song is my mother and I personified. She is 86 and failing. Even in death, I will never be free of the wall. She built it much to high.
Sending you love.
Sorry. It’s a lifelong struggle. Codependency is torturous.
I can so relate to this, Greg. Mine is 88. At the age of 59, I am finally considering therapy, but I am wary of unleashing a lifetime of issues. Love to you, and I hope you are able to find yourself and become whole again.

Pink Floyd is important
The One and Only Pink Floyd! Simply Astounding! ♥️🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦
Sometimes love can be the key that sets you free and sometimes love is a prison that stifles and suffocates the soul. This so much reminded me of my own situation with my own mother

Another album that you should listen to in it's entirety.
You have to remember the context of the song. All of the members of Floyd were growing up thru WW2...bombings, air raid sirens...most of their fathers off to war. They were left with a mother to raise them....protect them....instill all their fears within them....mother should I build a wall....

Oh my god, you never stop the beginning of a David Gilmour solo....NEVER.
😂
Really? Is that all you have to say?
@CEOofYTisPureEvil ..You may have something there. But he seems to listen to a wide variety of music....but he REALLY doesn't get Pink Floyd !
This was my big brother (step) favorite song by FLOYD. His mom was a case. She lived the Life.
He passed a few yrs ago, diabetes.
RIP CHAD
Drummer Nick Mason had some issues with all the time-signature changes on Mother, so they replaced him with the late great Jeff Porcaro (Toto) for the final studio version.
"Without music, I'd just die"
Damn good description of how important music is, that resonated deep with me man.
You can't deny great music. Pink Floyd always delivers. Emotional band. Check out the movie. Bob Gheldof plays the part of Pink.
The Wall is a work of genius, and seeing Roger Waters' The Wall concert (I think it's on Netflix) is a spectacular experience. And if you can find it, the concert in Berlin in 1989 just after the Berlin Wall came down is also incredible!
PINK FLOYD HAS A WAY OF WASHING OVER YOUR SOUL. ALMOST LIKE PRAYER
It absolutely does👍👍❤❤❤
Waters and Gilmours dividing the singing lines is my favourite formula
Having heard this music for years, the Wall can be hard to explain. You should check out the movie. It's so odd, such great music though. Pink (in the movie) is raised by a single mother who lost her husband during WWII.
Except for the part where he shaves off his *****. I might have been just a little high at the time, but it still troubles me till this day. Absolutely agree - in sequence and the movie makes it.
@@robjohnson5872 A lot of troubling images in the movie. lol
I've been trying to get people to watch the movie for years guess they just want to try and figure out stuff for themselves
I didn't really care that much for the movie. But watching his live Wall concert with all the visuals and stuff is very good at filling in the context around the album's songs.
just watched it again the night before last …love it
That guitar uses a very simple chord progression but played magnificently.
You will also notice the signature Roger Waters pause between lines in order to allow the listeners the opportunity to reflect.
Beautiful song.
Yet another tremendous PF tune, and one that rarely gets the credit it deserves. Fabulous song!!!
This song is actually better around the 50th time you hear it.
Trust me ; )
If you really heard it for the first time, it's unbelievable how exactly you got it. Congratulations. great response to this song! Thanks a lot - I was pleased ...
I think your analysis is spot on. I really miss my mother. She was not overprotective. She was very honest. She prayed for her three children. Thank you Harri!
I recommend Comfortably Numb from Pulse concert in 94. Arguably one of rocks best guitar solos by David Gilmour!
I like that your room is suitably pink, Good job!
It has one of the shortest guitar solos but in my opinion ranks high as one of Gilmour’s greatest
Dave Gilmore Could do more with one note then todays shredders could do with a dozen…: Dave Mustain
it is very melodic and lyrical, I bet this is one he sang before he wrote it.
Once again your insight is right on the money. Love your reactions.
I think it's about mother's in general. Always wanting the best for you but not wanting to let go at the same time. In consequence " putting all her fears into you ".
I just wanted to let you know harri I look forward to your show every day I love music so much all kinds of music and I look forward to seeing your responses you make my day thanks harri my friend ❤
just watched The Wall again the night before last. I never get sick of Pink Floyd 🙏🦋🌈🌞🌻✌🏻
Love PF and bought this album just after it came out, and your right about the controlling mom, helping to build the wall, if you get a chance listen to the whole thing, it will make more sense and you won't be disappointed...♡
Love your reactions they are so real !
ONE DOESN'T MERELY LISTEN TO PINK FLOYD, ONE EXPERIENCES THEM! WELCOME TO THE RIDE WE CALL PINK FLOYD MY FRIEND!
When this came out I would listen to this front to back with headphones LOUD.
The Movie is a MUST watch for you now if you want the entire story. (You won't need drugs but it won't hurt) 😎
Hear the live version
Liked you're astute analysis. A very complex song and subject matter indeed.
Lovely to see you reacting again - especially Pink Floyd. I would highly recommend watching the film The Wall and then enjoying a deep dive into the whole album. Keep up the great work. Love and best wishes from North Wales UK
This is just one scene in the album and film of The Wall by Pink Floyd. It's a Concept Album and Film.
THE WALL is one of my favorite movies of all time. Its a MUST WATCH
your insights are spot on...the song's about the lead character in the film "The Wall", who was isolated from life
Ive listen to alot of reaction videos and i cann say you are far the best to listen to to think what it is all about.
another floyd classic, you need to watch them live to know how great they are, watch comfertably numb live pulse concert
Great reaction
Great and accurate reaction once again :)
Man, you really need to listen to the whole album to see this song in context. Pink Floyd's music is about telling a story and each song is just one part.
Your right on Harri
My favorite Pink Floyd song!! Since you don't know it I'm assuming you haven't seen the movie.... which I highly recommend.

This is one of my personal favorites.

Lol he was better on the acoustic than he was on the bass..
Pigs on the Wing is Pink Floyd's greatest song in my opinion 👍
The Wall should be heard in its Whole!
She helped build the wall
Awesome album/movie. Totally worth checking out in its entirety.
Yes🥰✌😎🤩😪
You need to hear the full concert live at Brandenburg gate in Germany in 1990
Mother, did it need to be so high ? A reference to the wall she had built around him.
There’s a lot going on in this song but I think you got it. BTW love your fashion!
New to the channel, but loving your reactions. You're spot on with your reading of the lyrics and feel of the song. If you ever get a chance, watch the full movie 'The Wall.'

Mother, did it need to be so high? Exactly.
It's a deliciously dark song
Porcupine Tree - ARRIVING SOMEWHERE BUT NOT HERE is a great track also
I love your reactions to My favorite band Pink Floyd! After The Wall the band started breaking, I can’t recommend any full album after The Wall, but there are a few songs here and there after Roger Waters left. I would recommend Echoes for you! Please give that a listen 🥰

The album is a story.
Great Track, from a brilliant Album, and the Movie does both the story and the music justice (I have just put it on at home).
I highly recommend checking out, Pink Floyd The Wall Movie 👍👍
He's singing about mother Russia and the Berlin wall.
“Mother did it need to be so high”- did the wall need to be so high; do I really need so much protection from the world? How can I live a good life with so much emotional anxiety?
Sad but it happens 😊
You have to see the movie!

It is about Sid and his mother
Syd is part of the wall, but this song is about the other Roger and his mum
Great reaction!😀

Yes sir. Great reaction.
Mother is one chapter in the book called The Wall. Please listen to the album for context.
Spot on. Not everyone gets this
You should never interrupt Pink Floyd
David Gilmours solos are like stories inside a story.
after you react to all the songs on the Wall album, watch the movie and see what they linked the songs to the movie - Pink Floyd is made to listen (headphones or SSR) to in the dark in a beanbag chair
