Excellent performance, João. I admired how well you managed your subjects, how politely you treated them, and how your high energy level kept the show flowing.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was a pretty straight forward/classic mind-reading act so it was really all about the presentation. Great you caught that ;)
I'm clearly a couple years late to the party but -- putting on a mentalism act this well-paced, this engaging, and this....accessible is virtually impossible. Loved the performance.
Great show, really enjoyed it! The only thing that I'm confused about, is why did you go through the long process of deducing the card and the word at the end, if you knew it right from the beginning? I don't quite understand that part. Still very clever though :)
cchhaarrlliiie it is how mentalism should be, mentalist dont just straight forward guess the word, we do a long process before the actual revelation, give the spectator a moment where they feel like the mentalist actuallu reading their mind and not knowing it since the beginning
Hey, thanks so much for your comment :). Well, I used to be an actor at The Lisbon Players, a British theatre company located in Lisbon, Portugal. I think I got the accent from there but I'm 100% Portuguese, born and raised. Cheers!
@@joaoblumel I agree 100% with @goldeneddie - I'm English and watching it I thought that your accent was so specifically South-Eastern English that you had to have spent time growing up there. The fact you've never lived here and you managed to develop an accent this perfect is absolutely mindblowing!
@@JackThomsonUK haha thanks so much mate. That was so specific. Truth is I've only been to London and Bristol. I need to visit that region one day ;). Cheers!
Peraí. Aos 17:35 ele pede para a senhora excluir 2 livros, mas logo em seguida ele pega um dos livros que que haviam sido excluídos e o usa como livro-referência. Vejam que aos 17:53 ele substitui os livros.
Excellent energy, great personality and attitude, kudos Joao, haven't felt the 20 min pass, the dynamic was great, one small remark, imho it's anticimatic to finish on a prediction because it shows that your reading was fake since you already knew everything in advance, just a small detail but great show :)
Did you see that phone? There are tiny micro-chips inside the paper that are projecting the image they draw right on his phone! One paper costs about 950 dollars.
***** He has done it thanks to his psychological skills and his influential persona, he mixed lot of psychological techniques to get the picture. Non-verbal comunnication, NLP and many others that we, laymen, doesn't know.
Petr Roháček You are a good man, Petr, I didn't want to say that, I just don't like people like you, when I asked for a reference in a BOOK or a DVD to read that part of the show, you answered with bullshit, I am sorry if I offensed Joao with what I posted, but I liked his show, very much, I just didn't like your answer to my very first question.
Haha I'm still wondering what was that drawing about...no idea (and I'm the mentalist)! As for the guy I actually really liked him! Cool guy, he just wanted to help ;)
Which lecture? This was 7 years ago...and as far as I'm concerned I never saw anyone doing the card thing this way. Nowadays I took it even further and have the entire audience actually guessing the card. The whole colour, suit and number. But let me know which lecture! Thanks ;)
Quite good.A tad bland though. Look at Derren Brown for inspiration as to how to make your act more theatrical and interesting. Too much spectator sitting on a chair and mentalist holding a pad and pen. Gets predictable. What about nail under cups? Hypnosis effects, effects with more of a story telling aspect and a spooky, spiritual edge. Too many mentalists just stand on stage with a marker and a pad and do drawing dupes etc. Think outside the box and script and routine your show in a more thoughtful way. :-)
Cheers mate. Well it's been almost 10 years since that performance and I sure improved a lot on my presentation and personal style. Having said that you need to take into consideration that I was required to do a 20min show when I'm used to full on 1h30 theatre shows with my own set design and production. It's a totally different setting. But yes I do agree that classical pen and paper style mentalism does get a tad boring and predictable ;)

Grande número. Excelente inglês.
Thats absolutely wonderful! It'd be cool to see your show live :D

Thanks so much! And yes..time does go by! This was already 7 years ago and I miss the Magic Castle very much!

Oh Meu Deus! Grande Mentalista...E ja agora, muito bom inglês
Obrigado Lucian ;)
Excellent! Very curious how you predicted that one volunteer would draw an animal.
Muito bom!! Orgulho 🇵🇹

aquele sotaque londrino muito top! ahah. great job
Very nice work João! It's great to see such boldnesses in acion. Kudos to you from a fellow performer.
Solid work
If you already knew what they were to choose why did you need to read their minds?
Hello. How come your English is so natural my friend? Were you brought up in the UK?

Joao, stole the disclaimer from Lucas, hummmm...
Why are you using the opening from Derren Brown's lecture? You don't have a permission to use that.
Which lecture? This was 7 years ago...and as far as I'm concerned I never saw anyone doing the card thing this way. Nowadays I took it even further and have the entire audience actually guessing the card. The whole colour, suit and number. But let me know which lecture! Thanks ;)
This is why a magician/mentalist with any brain capacity _does not_ perform at the Magic Castle - people are a nightmare!
