This anime...is amazing. I dropped halfway in the first season once. One day I suddenly remembered about the anime again. It's not like I intended to give it a 2nd chance, just that I somehow want to rewatch it. And I am SO glad I pick it up back again. The 2nd season does not disappoint at all.
Actually there is a 'happy ending'. The movies are the ones with no happy ending. There almost the same as the anime, except the ending and a few scenes. ^^

Saito is my favourite as well, but I agree with you: They just don't match with Chizuru. I played the game as well, which the anime was based on, and Saito's route was... well... it was good, and Saito had a great character developement, but for example, with him, Chizuru couldn't get any developement. (While in her relationship with Hijikata, she grows and gets stronger in many ways.) And yes, that's exactly the scene that turned me into a Kazama x Chizuru shipper :D
