Black Shuck and the Spirits of Suffolk

Suffolk has a plethora of ghostly tales to draw from. Though a single spectre seems to be the common thread through so many of the most haunted locations in the county .

I love the deep, rich history that England has. So many more tales than the young country of the US. We have a similar hell hound myth in my area. They are called a Grim, and assigned to watch over and guard cemeteries.

That’s interesting. It’s intriguing to see how these figures of folklore take on differing interpretations and roles across the globe. US have so much folklore I’d love to explore further!

There are sightings of a large black dog all over the UK, but Suffolk and Norfolk seem to be prime Shuck country. In May 2014 the bones of a large hound were discovered at Leiston Abbey, which is less than 20 miles from Bungay. Experts estimated it would have been over 7:feet long and would have weighed over 200 Lbs 🐺 I know these stories well, but they are beautifully presented 👍🏻
