@@MorganÅgren-Drums-MusicI echo this sentiment! I was also introduced to you through Frederick and just love innovative musicians and you certainly fit! Thanks for the inspiration because it certainly pushed me into larger realms of possibilities! Play on, friend!
I do not think the internet drumming community realise just how lucky we are this was preserved and shared here! Drumming history in this tape, do not think otherwise. Morgan Agren a uniquely human drummer in a saturated market of copy cat "perfect" drummers. Some youtube drummers play, Morgan creates, its art shown here and not shown off btw! Hope in examples like this
Me too! I'm a drummer of years but the moment I first stumbled across Morgan Agren was the first time I realised that finding your own spirit and invention within your own endeavours (whether drumming or otherwise)is as important as preserving any tradition of past folk via respect and study of those before us. Agren reminds us to find our own place in history as well as caring for and respecting the past before us and that which inform us or inspires / influences us. Our timeline is marked by our own efforts even if not noted by mainstream historians. Agren a prime example of absolute musicianship on the drum set is yet somehow not on the tip of every drum set consumer's(buyers and sellers of sets)tongue. Fortunately, his legacy has been recorded and recognised, I think though even more so as time passes on. For example, I have been enamoured by this video for years now and only now felt compelled to comment on the thread. Before, years before, I used this knowledge of Agren as a secret weapon behind inspiration behind certain fills or groove ideas I offered groups I played in. Now, and seeing the more widespread recognition of Agren within the drumming community online, I feel obliged to comment on his legacy instead of hiding a trump card that helped encourage me to be more me on the instrument this more creative, inventive. I now rejoice with the public, all finally recognising the artistic ideal. We needn't demigod others better than us but Agren sets an example of what our unbridled passion allows us individually should we disgaurd others expectations. Be you! The lesson I learned years ago from my first viewing of Agren, the second lesson was everything he broke down and illustrated in the video for us haha
Production value this good on music this interesting - on national television - says a lot about Swedish society. This video is a personal treasure, thanks Morgan!
Sadly we might be leaving that part of society behind soon. Current government have been more and more outspoken about wanting to cut public funding of culture. They see it as a waste of money. If there's nothing you can physically touch it apparently has no value to them.
I was on bed rest with severe migraine when this first showed on (daytime!) national TV. I confess... I had to stay home until all episodes were shown. There was NO WAY that I could miss this.

Wow. I remember as a teenager back in the day when I turned on the tv and saw this. I was an enthusiastic drummer. And This absolutely flew over my head. I watched all of it and got nothing out of it. Felt like empty and lost. I still remember it. Now. Some 20 years later listening in complete awe. The band is totally amazing. I can’t get enough. The music is the best I’ve heard in a long time. And. Morgans exercises are spot on. They are crazy and hard. But essentially the very core of drumming. It’s a genius. To teach them right on from the start is essential. Such a treasure this. It’s 20 years old but sounds relevant. So far beyond so much. It took me 20 years of maturing to get this stuff. As I’ve said before. Morgan is perhaps the drummer community’s greatest secret. Well. Of course He gets a lot of recognition. But he moves in his own realm. Thank you.
Whats cool for me is that despite my absolute ignorance of other world languages I can still completely understand Mrogans drum exercises and thus appreciate the ingenuity he brought to his sticking and phrasing. For example, his segment on his use of the six stroke roll ( righ hamd lead) with a para diddle turn around tag is made remarkable by his layering of a left foot hi hat quarter note pulse and the right foot bass drum playing the 16th note lets after every accented note as played by the hands. Its a unique phrase and approach that has an impressive affect and is note worthy to notice hasnt had much imitation. He plays awkward placements that many shy from. His sound thusly isnunique and originally to this day despite the internet having long access to his style of drumming. I live revisiting these lessons
Incredible, a friend introduced me to the Sol Niger Within track and 'Baader Puff' about 10 years back. I have often thought about the eclectic beats and melodies from those quite often and my recent rabbit hole led to me subscribing to your social media channels and picking up the box set which I am thoroughly enjoying. Really inspiring stuff to watch virtuosos not only play, but be whimsical and play with the songs too, try ridiculous ideas, and just enjoy themselves. Cheers!
I’m in my late 30’s now but I remember when this aired in Sweden and I recorded this on my VHS player to look at after school. Imagine a guy named Kjell Henry making pancakes all over the tv-screen in some kind of cooking show and then this show directly after. Like described, this content was not common at all and it became a gold mine for me in my teens practicing my ass off. This and the video “Live in magic” which I hope will see the digital day. I just wanna thank you Morgan for all the inspiration and beautiful music through the years. I remember buying records from you in person one time in Sthlm and I couldn’t believe it afterwards.

Did not understand anything of the exercises shown at the time, and still, I am nowhere near Morgans level even after these 18 years, but seeing this blew my young mind and opened up my eyes to the endless possibilities! Thanks for making this, and for uploading it now!
And an inspiration it was! I never became a skilled drummer, but I guess I picked up some stuff too. It was all so memorable, having these looney rhythms thrown in the face from the tv, during late Thursday(?) nights. Many years later I met the drummer from Univers Zero at a club in Bruxelles, and told him about how I got into his band.
