  • The S25 Ultra has brought some design changes, hardware changes and all new software. But, not everyone seems impressed.
A lot of the conversation has been dominated by one topic, but the rest of the phone is being overshadowed.
    Let's talk about it.

Not having a headphone jack doesn’t ruin the phone. Not having an SD card slot doesn’t ruin the phone. Not putting a charging brick in the box doesn’t ruin the phone. Not having an IR blaster doesn’t ruin the phone. Starting the price at $1000 doesn’t ruin the phone. Not having a SIM card tray does not ruin the phone. Not having Bluetooth function on s pen on the new ultra doesn’t ruin the phone. TH-camrs who are paid off by companies have always defended everything that has been taken away from the consumers.

If we let companies get away with it then they will continue to nickle and dime us. Remember when Samsung removed the SD card slot in the S6 and Note 5. People were upset and voiced their anger. The following year they brought back the SD card slot.We had the SD card slot for a few more years before Samsung pulled that move again. Not sure when people became complacent that companies like Samsung started to just steamrolled us in accepting less.

In summary if you're going from ultra to ultra year over year, you're probably not going to be impressed. Now if you're going from plus series or regular series to the next year's ultra you'll be impressed. This dawned on me when looking at Nvidia cards. If you bought yourself a 4080 and you were thinking oh I'll upgrade to a 5080. Well, you're going to be disappointed because the performance isn't a huge leap forward (most people's expectations are way overblown). Where you would experience the leap in performance would be upgrading from a 4080 to a 5090. And again similar to the Samsung ultra to ultra example given above, you won't be wowed by going from a 4090 to a 5090, even though there is forward progression. It's the truth, you're either an enthusiast retail consumer or you a TH-cam tech influencer if you feel compelled to drill down and dissect the asthetic/performance differences that have probably changed very little with regard to real world functionality year over year. Expecting leaps and bounds from the same model tier year over year is not realistic. We just need to take a step back and realize this. In some instances technology does make major leaps forwards but in most cases these leaps do not occur year over year.

I would totally agree with this if hardware leaps over the 25 Ultra didn't already exist in phones like the OnePlus 13, that has a phenomenally better battery (capacity and technology), more RAM, newer software features, and a massively lower price. I don't think the issue is that it's iterative compared with the 24 models as much as there's no excuse for it being iterative when the technology for significant leaps already exists, leaps other companies are already exploiting with much greater success.

I do not know who this guy is but I came in because of the thumbnail and I thought that he would explain why, a phone that cost $1,300 has the same display, pretty much the same camera as last year. But of course he had to say that the camera now is actually really good. No it's not and the selfie camera for Samsung has always been a weak point and they have actually repeated the same camera hardware as last year. except for the ultra wide. What about 12 GB RAM? You don't get the same ecosystem fluidity, the same amount of software support, and also less apps that are optimised for certain phones, the Oneplus 13 is amazing because it has amazing specs for its price, but like he mentioned in the video, specs aren't everything, he even gave an example of the S20 Ultra having amazing specs but not utilizing those amazing specs of not crap optimization. Why log video if 99,99% of people will never buy professional editing software to be able to edit it? Should these be also removed because there are few people using them? Let's call it by the name it deserves: Samsung dropped the ball on this and the reaction is being brutal. Of course everyone will cool down and appreciate the other improvements. I am not a video creator, I am a private person , that prefers taking photos instead of videos . I am the MOST upset about the missing Bluetooth Function and that’s why the S25 Ultra makes me kind of sad . I used since the Note 4 every two or three years a new generation of Samsung Note/Ultra , mainly BECAUSE of the large screen in combination with the amazing SPen. And since it got the Bluetooth functions It was even more useful and astonishing.
I had never expected that Samsung would erase a feature that made the Ultra that magic that it was . I was so much looking forward to upgrading from my nearly two year old S23 Ultra to the new generation with that amazing display but honestly I am not really sure I want to upgrade now 😢

Stop making excuses for Samsung. The S25U costs $1300, so there is no excuse to remove any features regardless of whether or not Samsung thinks people aren't using it. How do they even know, BTW? Did they ask everyone or just a small sample of people? There are other reasons why this phone doesn't compete... The design is stale, the camera sensors are old, the battery hasn't changed in years, and the charging speed hasn't changed. Samsung is being passed by competitors like OnePlus. And the AI is way overrated. Most people don't care about that. I'm going to be seriously checking competitor phones when it comes time for me to upgrade.

No significant hardware upgrades, removal of features, the push towards AI features which will be paywalled down the line, to top all of that, I thought the phone felt really cheap in hand, felt like a toy. So that's what's wrong with the device imho.

Samsung is just slowly eroding away its USP in favour of ridiculous AI frivolities.
The Spen alone is something I have tied to routines too. Do I use it every day? No, but I use it a ton more than I use things like Dex or several other apps.

    • @techwithbenefits
      @techwithbenefits  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Allow me to break it down.
Samsung wanted to to slim the phone down and make it lighter this year. (They have research which would indicate that consumers wanted a new design)
To do this, hardware needs to be reorganised and something needs to make way.
Samsung's usage data showed them that just 0.5% of users actually used the bluetooth functions. So 99.5% of people using the Ultra line, didn't use it.
This feature is hardware based, so, removing the charging coil and battery out of the pen, can save weight and thickness.
Those other features are software based. DeX, in particular has a large B2B usage and a lot of companies rely on it for their mobile workforce.
Do I agree with the decision? No. But it's not the same as removing a software feature

I strongly suggest refraining from making excuses for any company, regardless of size-it doesn’t matter.
As an S22 Ultra user who then upgraded to the S24 Ultra, I believe that many people upset by Samsung’s decisions share a common frustration: the clear trend that they blatantly don’t prioritize consumer interests. Sure, they might present statistics and charts showing that less than 1% of users utilized the Bluetooth function in the S-Pen, and they may attempt to rationalize this decision. BUT from a consumer’s perspective, removing a feature that existed in a previous iteration feels like a slap in the face to anyone who relied on and appreciated it.
Claiming it’s revolutionary by constantly repeating the same mantra in videos-about it being lighter, having a “radically new design,” titanium, Gorilla Glass, and other external upgrades-feels disingenuous. A new screen? Be honest-nobody upgrading from an S22 Ultra to an S24 Ultra would notice much of a difference because the improvement is marginal. At this point, it seems like you're desperately grasping at small crumbs of justification to explain the stripped-down version of the phone compared to the previous generation. And no one is talking about the camera hardware anymore. Most people, as you point out, are focused on quality, and while I get that MKBHD has made similar arguments, these points barely show up in 1-2% of any comment section.
Yes, the performance upgrades are great, but aren’t these upgrades standard across other flagship devices? Is the AI truly providing real benefits to daily life? I don’t think so-it feels gimmicky at best. Background noise removal? Subpar. The “Best Face” photo feature? That existed long before this, though it’s a nice addition. And the “circle to search” feature? Sure, it’s interesting, but typing what you’re searching for works just as well. These additions don’t meaningfully improve users’ lives.
The users of these brand phones are feeling comfortable with their decisions, and were till this point comfortable relying on the company that would improve, not revoke existing features from their devices.
Features like the Bluetooth shutter and gestures, on the other hand, did make the device stand out, adding practical value that many users appreciated. Throughout the Their removal feels like the same kind of mistake as when manufacturers eliminated the SD card slot, citing claims that few people used it or that it made water resistance more difficult. Or when the headphone jack was removed, which was similarly justified with equally weak arguments.
When I say “feeling comfortable,” I’m not referring to die-hard Samsung or Apple fans, but to regular users who genuinely appreciated these features. Apple set the precedent when they removed the headphone jack and the MagSafe connector. Companies that strip features from products costing over $1,000, all in the name of boosting their profit margins, and then gaslight consumers into believing it’s for their benefit, are acting unacceptably in my view.
And I can get the argument: if I don’t like it, I don’t have to buy it. But as an influencer, please don’t act as if these decisions are fully justified or truly in our best interests. That’s simply not a valid argument.

  • @DorianC19

I actually like this video a lot because Samsung is doing what they have always done. Plus last year the phone felt incremental as well to me but it was the best phone of last year. There is a space where most might not like it. But this video is accurate from my view point. But I'm just a regular Joe. But this comes down to if you don't want to buy it, don't. But maybe I have some blind spots in my reasoning but the fact that Android has a CPU that beats apple in itself is a big deal. The phone market has matured. That shouldn't stifle innovation. But it also doesn't mean that it has to be the hail Mary at the end of the game.

One reason is the anti-glare screen; I use the GPS system a lot during the day, and reflection blinds me from seeing my phone. I have to turn my brightness up to maximum and turn on extra brightness mode, which causes my battery to drain very fast. This is a misconception many fall for. Did you ever watch a battery drain test. IPhone 16 pro still beats the 6000mAh+ models with "new battery tec", while having the "smallest battery", the programming around it is just superior to other brands. The spec does actually not matter as much as the real world results. Same goes for cameras and many other features. What counts is the performance compared to the competition. Look for results, not technically better specs. They seem nice on paper but offer no real world advantages

    • @koolbeep
      @koolbeep 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@swissChris5 nah.. imagine if you put that 6000mh on iphone and IOS still best optimize to save power.... then let say theyre capable of charging faster too.. real world results is much MUCH better.. im happy i can charge my huawei at around 60% for just 10mins.. i can also wireless charge at 80% too... but again i see apple and samsung best on there software are top notch with 7yrs of support.. theyre recent hardware is same.. so if my only choice is them, ill got to previous model and save a lot ^_^

@@koolbeep I only really care about fast wired charging for if I run out early and need a quick refill. I prefere to charge my phone slowly over night, to not wear out the battery to fast. Working with Lithium batteries I can tell you fast charging does not add to battery life. I am sure with the right battery management system and cells this can be mitigated somewhat but in general, if you don't need a fast charge, don't use it. Your battery will last longer generally. And who cares if their phone is done charging an hour after they go to bed? It just needs to be charged when you get up.

It's just stunning this year that so many reviewers rave about basic things (yet in this day unimportant things because everyone does it well) about s24u ie shape, screen while so many commenters are laying hate on what samsung rolled out. The disconnect is staggering. It's also shocking that reviewers just think that many of us are disappointed just because of the spen downgrade.

If compared to the S24u, it's boring. If compared to other Flagship Android phones. It's boring. You must have forgotten what made Samsung so popular in the first place! They can make the Ultra phone, thats fine, but they also need to make a phone for people who love Samsung for what they were known for in the past. A phone with ALL of the bells and whistles, the latest and greatest technology available! Samsung is becoming the Facebook of phones, while other companies have taken their place because Samsung now chooses the safe route as far as pushing boundaries.

I get where you're coming from. Is the S25U better from a software standpoint than the S24U? Sure, you could argue that. Will some of those features and optimizations come to the S24U eventually? Probably.
The problem is the hardware. From the beginning of the Ultra phones, Samsung has crammed all the best hardware into a single device; that's what the Ultra lineup was all about. Over time they slowly stopped putting in the best hardware every year, following Apple's shoes and started to remove features. The power brick in the box, the same use of lackluster camera hardware, now taking away the Bluetooth functionality of the SPen, all while keeping the same high price point. Samsung is starting to lose its identity and trying too hard to be like Apple. They just need to get back to their roots, try new things again and push the limits of their hardware. There's NO excuse for not keeping up with the competition like the Chinese market and the new tech that's out there. #MakeSamsungGreatAgain

I have a big issue with what tech reviewers have become. They don't take a holistic approach anymore. They spend most of their time comparing this year's device to last year's. The videos have gone from being good videos to share with a potential phone buyer, to something that caters to phone geeks. It is a very small group of people that update their flagship device every year. The phone enthusiast is the 1% of phone buyers.
If every review is just "this is what's new", then all the solid and most dependable features are ignored or mentioned in passing, as if the audience should already know.
Apple channels have actually gotten into the habit of saying something like "if you have an iPhone [two models previous], then this is for you..."

Samsung, changed the ultrawide and call it a day! its the same since note20 ultra. samsung lacked the innovation once it had. the cameras are a let down IMO, the main sensor is 3 years old now and even on its launch, the 200MP did not deliver as a revolutionary sensor. x200 ultra is the peak of camera hardware right now heck all minority brands step up big time. samsung had been criticizing apple for a long time, but samesung doing apple thing right now. i own 24 ultra, its a great phone, its a jack of all trades but master of none (except OLED screen maybe?).

Great content. As for battery life. I don't know about your s25 ultra, but my s24 ultra, which I only had for 3 weeks, is giving me 1 day and 4 hours per charge. Can you explain to me what Qi is, and does the s25 ultra have it in the phone, or is it like the s24 ultra that needs a case to make it magesafe compatible 🤔. And as to AI, the s24 ultra will get some of it. When the 24 ultra gets 1ui7.0, performance should improve. As for the Bluetooth in the s pen, most people wouldn't be so butt hurt if the average consumer new about it before the galaxy unpacked. People wouldn't have been so blind sided. I believe Samsung is doing away with the s pen. But I think they'll bring back the note series phone soon. They'll call galaxy note _ pro. What ever number they'll use.

It's not the same processor, there is a difference.
Let's see some of those high specs prove they can deliver real world advantages. Let's see a battery drain comparison for example. You ignore that you only get 3 years of Android updates with that phone 😂 Samsung offers 7. Not that you will be keeping that thing for more than one to two years anyway until you chase the next better phone. After that time period, noone is going to want that phone with an old OS that wont upgrade so its trash by that time. Compare the whole package and with real life results, not on paper. Then come back and tell me it's the better phone

People think because we are being harsh on the company we prefer that we are "uninformed", "Misunderstanding", or "Just don't see the bigger picture" when in fact this is the same fate the Fold 6 had and its sales stumbled over it and this one will too, Mark my words. Its a fine phone if you want a newer phone on sale with a deal and you have limited options, otherwise check out the other cheaper more innovative phones that are listening to their customers and not removing features and charging the same.
