I'm a grandma who has been placed in the role of teacher to a 13-year-old who was learning at a third grade level. When we pulled him out of public school, they labeled him as having a learning disability. I'm trying to find a different way of teaching him than the public school way workbooks papers. He doesn't retain all that well. I've been looking into Charlotte Mason but it seems like and no one explains it to where I can understand it. It's seems that all I'm hearing is that you read you read and you read but I feel sure you cannot read and learn math just by reading about it. I also don't have tons of money to pour into expensive curriculums and gadgets and things. I am also old school on the computer which means I know nothing about a computer. I do not want to fail this child but I am a show me person and of the dozens of videos I have watched. Everyone just sings the praises of the Charlotte Mason living books approach, but no one shows me how to use it and if you have to use it in addition to another curriculum or a curriculum that seems like just more than I'm going to have to do. Apparently I'm just not grasping this at all. Please someone show me

This takes so many overwhelming feelings away. I feel so unorganized when trying to start my Charlotte mason homeschooling; adding layers year after year just makes so much more sense

I’m just getting into homeschooling. I love the Charlotte Mason method of education. I’m a former public education teacher. I was often the teacher that liked to take different methods with children than what was taught to us. I’m all for visual education and learning concepts. Just this past week, I talked to the two first graders that I homeschool about quality work and not quantity. I talked to them about the fact that learning is not a race. Also, the Neuro-Semantic language theory that I learned while in public education is all about layering concepts for learning. I know that I’m on a journey with CM... I think it will be challenging and enjoyable.

I’ve loved this advice of doing your best effort. I ask my son this now frequently with chores too “did you put forth your best effort?” Before I check his work. I love idea of him growing up remembering that was a value in our home.

I loved the Charlotte Mason philosophy,. The words that you mentioned: "Continue to educate yourself", were very motivating for me. Thanks for your interesting and informative video!

I cant tell you how these videos have helped me ! I love CM volumes and I am slowly making my way through them my son is three. Sometimes I feel a little overwhelmed . Wondering if I can put these beautiful idea into practice . Sometimes the reading leaves me feeling out of my league though I love them ! Watching your videos helps me feel a little better (most the time lol). Still i feel like I have so much to learn !

I switched my son from public school to homeschool in the middle of his second grade year. 2 months in, he begged me to put him back in public school. Does anyone have any advice?

First, I'd ask him why. Does he mainly just miss his friends? Is being home all day boring to him? 2 months in, you are still in the deschooling phase, so maybe you took on too much too soon and it's overwhelming him or the method just doesn't suit him and his learning style.
