I love how diverse Lain is in the art she gets portrayed in. It’s quite fitting because she can literally be anything. Not to mention that her last words at the very end of the series “I’m here so I will always be with you” is very haunting because the whole anime has you questioning the blur between the wired and real world, and now you question reality against an anime. Lain is someone’s creation, she isn’t real, but the creator is letting you know she’s there for you, thereby making her real if you so want to....I need to stop day drinking.
I understand Lain was a super artificial intelligence she is so powerful she can change the time (the last episode). These Anime become more real any time tec progress... maybe the anime want to said us we are allready in the matrix?
Tbh she's basically a goddess in a digital world. If you take it literally, god is also nothing more than a software/developer. No real body, created basically us all(we are just applictions) and so on. You can basically create anything vitually from a landscape to a whole city. She basically is a goddess but she's also in denial of her godlike powers. There were also many christian references scathered troughout the series. She wanted to be anything but a omnipresent and immortal/invincible being. She just wanted a normal life and ended up finding out her real identity but at the end she learned to accept the truth. There unfortunately never was a happy end planned for her. We humans just live our lives and arent even aware of her struggles. The path of her finding out was laid out already... Her family(father especially), her friends, the people she met. Everything would have brought her to this final stage one way or another "destiny" some people would say. I am a atheist, but it does remind me a lot of Jesus who was also seen as normal person at first but he turned out to he the son of god or Hercules... This "a godlike figure among us humans" vibe is potrayed a lot in this Anime.
this anime was showing the future, and its also a methapher for social media who you can be a whatever you want honest , fake, something between , a different gender , an anime character even monika from doki doki literature club had an insta acc, now just with the new options and chances with TH-cam this anime made more sense
one day, just like in the anime, lain will be forgotten. forever, and so will al of us. I am no nihilist though, just observing this is weird to think about :'(
