I remember when I was kid and lived in Gympie and half my family still live in Gympie…. When we would drive down to Brisbane as a family we would always stop at Nambour at the train station there and get a drink or an ice cream .. loo stop …. I was in Nambour about 12 months ago and the main street was dead no People at all… Compared to the hustle and bustle years ago… I don’t think businesses will improve. I’m sure a lot will suffer… But that’s only my opinion.
Wow! Great comment! 👏 I can't even remember the last time I was in Nambour, which also a prime example of what you are saying about how quiet it was. I guess Gympie has the help that it is a fully established town, with major services. Also, it's the last big stop for those going to Fraser Island/K'Gari. We will soon see though...
@@TheWandererAUS I’ll tell you why, the money they can’t make for percentage over 130kph. As apposed to the percentage they can make over 110kph. That road is no different to any European road and we rarely see a vehicle from the early 2000‘s let alone anything that can’t handle 130kph. Even Mark Skaife said it is needed, this is from a man who hates incompetence from other race drivers.
There will surely be a few establishments establishing themselves for the convenience of travellers along the bypass in the years to come. Hopefully those will be set up by local Gympie residents to avoid any slow economic demises.
Yeah fingers crossed! 🤞 There is plenty of spots along that section for businesses to build. I think the residents are enjoying the peace and quiet through their town at the moment... But that novelty will wear off once the travellors dollar starts to run thin.
@@TheWandererAUS Gympie has been "booming" before Covid with a lot of Noosa-ites moving up and commuting as the price of realestate in Noose was astronomical prior to the coof, now Gympie will set you back as well though nothing like Sunshine Coast. Just need QLD Rail to put on more than 1 train a day, the track needs rework even the tilt takes forever and only gets up to its max speed for a min or 2 on the whole trip. 3hrs by train for 160KM is ridiculous!
Put in take away drive throughs and no end of litter all the way down the road, in the US you have to get off the interstate to get fuel and food so the local community that's bypassed get some patronage, yes this i saw in my extensive road trip across and back and up in the USA. Go down to Suttons Forest in NSW and see the litter past the McDonalds.. the biggest contributor to littering in the world, stop and get some real food and the fat and cholesterol wont build up
The roads in Queensland are some of the worst i have even experienced especially the sunshine coast roads and highways. they are repairing some but making a nightmare of the whole place and taking way too long to finish the work.
Far out, I didn't know this...! I've been saying for awhile now, that once the Coffs Harbour & Hexam/Raymond Terrace bypasses are finished, there will be no traffic lights from Melbourne until Gympie... So what would it be now, Melbourne to Tiaro? I lived in the Wide Bay for about 2 years during pandemic times. I love the area & I miss it dearly.
I think you are right mate... No lights from Melbourne to Gympie once the Coffs/Raymond Terrace bypass is done. The next set after will be Tiaro... But there planning and surveying stages have already started for the Tiaro bypass too, which will mean no lights till Rocky I think once that's done 🤔
The road may be great, but to do it, the Gympie Pyramid had to be demolished. And just because there wasn't a building that could be described as a religious centre, it doesn't mean that an ancient spiritual site wasn't desecrated.
@@TheWandererAUS It's actually taken over 37 years to get from Caloundra to Curra. I was living in Brisbane in 1987 and the freeway north ended at the Caloundra turnoff. Every new section was a blessing.
Where does the BS about a 15 year build come from? Construction of the gympie bypass took 4 years only. The whole Cooroy to Curra upgade took about 15 years.
A lot of travellers will still stop in Gympie I think. Yeah the town may slow down a little, but the amount of services in Gympie, having become such a large town over the years, will ensure it keeps going 👍 Perhaps just at a slower pace 😊
Just like in Victoria, there is no caravan speed limit in Queensland, and drivers are advised to follow posted speed limits instead. Learner drivers in Queensland are allowed to tow a caravan or trailer on the condition that their L plate is prominently placed at the back of the caravan or is visible on the trailer.
I did actually look at the upgradability of the bypass, with some lane reshuffling, you could get 3 lanes easily without having to do any major works... although I can't see that being needed for many years... lets just get dual carriageway to Cairns first, that's the first goal 👍

Yeah, totally agree Peter! From the moment you cross the border into NSW, it is dual carraige all the way to the bottom of Melbourne... all the state governments up here... no matter what the flavour... just can't commit to sorting this road out!
That Rocky bypass will be a massive upgrade!
Caravans should be limited to a 100kmh as well.
And should require a truck license, or a license especially created for caravan towing.
I understand recently I special license is now required for Supercars.
Haha this is true mate... and I tend to agree... or at least some way to show proven training has been done!
The 100km/h limit is a thing for certain states :)
Only in south Australia that a S licence required
@@Mick_4591 didn't know that mate!
@@TheWandererAUS … I think the main business that will suffer will be the service stations… And the businesses along the highway there
@eliz1957 there is a fantastic camping store that is family owned behind the McDonald's too... Am hoping they survive!
@@TheWandererAUS… yes for sure… I will send you a picture when we lived there …do you have email address
Who's holding the camera if your driving Rob?
Hahaha!
Why is it not 130kph. If the road surface is that good.
Haha that would be nice!
3hrs by train for 160KM is ridiculous!
like the US you get off the road to get fuel and food,
Put in take away drive throughs and no end of litter all the way down the road, in the US you have to get off the interstate to get fuel and food so the local community that's bypassed get some patronage, yes this i saw in my extensive road trip across and back and up in the USA.
Yeah mate, it's not until people drive interstate that they realise just how bad our roads are!
Yeah the Wide Bay is a stunning area!
I'm disappointed there should be at least 115 roundabouts!!
🤣🤣🤣 give it time... 🤣🤣🤣
Can't wait to see it, hope at some point they put in some services along the bypass.
Yeah mate, either that or some signage pointing out to travellers that there isn't anywhere to stop till Gunalda 🤞
get off and get your fuel and food like the US interstates. The only people who benefit will be multinationals
The road may be great, but to do it, the Gympie Pyramid had to be demolished.
And just because there wasn't a building that could be described as a religious centre, it doesn't mean that an ancient spiritual site wasn't desecrated.
All great until there is a accident blocking all lanes.
the problem with a bypass is it kills towns
Hopefully that doesn't happen here 🤞
I was thinking that this is how the road going all around Australia should be BUT 15 years for 26kms ,I’m not liking my chances 👁️👁️😎😇🐕🦺❤️🇦🇺
It was 15 years for the whole bypass from Cooroy to Curra. Not the last 26kms
Yeah that's correct 👍
Haha yeah was a lot of earth works that needed to happen to get the road through. All up so far, it's about a 62km stretch
@@TheWandererAUS It's actually taken over 37 years to get from Caloundra to Curra.
I was living in Brisbane in 1987 and the freeway north ended at the Caloundra turnoff.
Every new section was a blessing.
@@superiorstreaming7350 121kms 🤯
They deliberately destroyed the pyramid and ancient priceless artefacts...
Your kidding me 15 YEARS
Yeah hard to believe! That first section around Cooroy took them a long time due to the terrain
There's a song about that...20 years where'd they go
4 years
Work out where you are first
Where does the BS about a 15 year build come from? Construction of the gympie bypass took 4 years only. The whole Cooroy to Curra upgade took about 15 years.
That's what I was referencing mate 👍 the full length of the upgrade 🙌
😡😡 HEY ALBO THE HOMELESS WANT TO SPEAK TO YOU ASAP 🤑😡😡😡😡😡😡
Why would anyone want to bypass Gympie?
Yeah I quite like Gympie myself. I'll still be stopping in when time isn't against me 👍
The road nobody wanted that will kill Gympie as a town. And all you care about is your time. Ever wonder why the country is fucked.
A lot of travellers will still stop in Gympie I think. Yeah the town may slow down a little, but the amount of services in Gympie, having become such a large town over the years, will ensure it keeps going 👍 Perhaps just at a slower pace 😊
@@TheWandererAUS Its happened to over a hundred towns in Australia. All for the occupier to lay their concrete and charge you all for it.
Errr Rob, you better check your road laws… caravans are limited to 100 kph
Yeah I wasn't sure about that Nikki. Good to know. I don't have a caravan, but handy info! 😊
Not in Queensland.
@@Mrbuckaroonie.. That is rediculous!
Federal laws literally state its 100k people.
going north the synage to Gympie is shithouse.
Yeah they need to fix that up, that's for sure! I can see some drivers taking the bypass almost by accident
Two flaming lanes lol 10000 vehicles on the road every year no forward planning shoddy workmanship on the road build no way it's a class 1 road
Put a sock in it
I did actually look at the upgradability of the bypass, with some lane reshuffling, you could get 3 lanes easily without having to do any major works... although I can't see that being needed for many years... lets just get dual carriageway to Cairns first, that's the first goal 👍
A by pass that’s failed on so many levels….. no link to bells bridge back tracking on so many levels very poor access to Gympie itself
Yeah I did think that too about bells bridge when I realised how far north the bypass went before connecting back at Curra...
Going too fast to read signs@@TheWandererAUS
