Headed back out to the Columbia River for some more summer sturgeon fishing. In this video, we fish two different spots with the first location being up at Lake Roosevelt and the other spot down closer towards the Oregon-Washington border. On this trip, we are reminded about novice mistakes such as making sure your knots are tied well, letting the fish run one too many times away from the shore, and not setting the drag appropriately. Normally, these kinds of trips wouldn't be made into a video because we didn't land any fish, but I wanted to show you guys our mistakes too and not just our successes.

Normally, this wouldn't even be a video I upload but I wanted to show our mistakes as well and not just our successes. Perhaps one more sturgeon redemption attempt before the summer ends?
Samong Yang Outdoors love your videos if your interested come back to this spot and we go on my boat and you can make another great video
Samong Yang Outdoors I was out Friday morning the 26 and saw you guys on shore and pretty cool to see your video posted this next week the invite is there if your interested
Mav is how I discovered your channel and I’m glad I did! I’ve since subbed and binged a bunch of your stuff. Your videos are relaxing, enjoyable, and exciting all in one so keep up the great work! I also enjoy how you explain things to as I’m no where as knowledgeable of the outdoors as you are but I feel like I can always learn something new and hopefully use that in my own adventures in the near future! Best of luck out there and safe travels.
Great video and lots of fun Thank You for taking us along !!
Your the best hunting and fishing channel out there
Wow, I really appreciate that! Thanks, Wyatt!
Man that's light gear for sturgeon. Cool video!
"its so boring, mav is snorkling now" lol
😂😂
You should come to California someday for sturgeon fishing
I sure enjoy your sturgeon fishing videos
Thank you so much, I really enjoyed your sturgeon videos.
Man, cant believe you got mav!
I have never sturgeon fished but I feel like braid gives you more rock protection
It's still fun fishing. 🍿🍿🍿🍿
Good stuff brother Samong. Keep it going.
Giant fish to catch from shore for sure. Mav was in town huh. hopefully, a few more people will find you. I have been rooting for Mav since his Peric days. I watched Peric because I liked Mav.
I'm from a little town in Washington called okanogan, I've always wanted to go sturgeon fishing but didn't know where to go or what to use this helps alot
Sam - if you ever come to Idaho I'd love to take you to catch some dinos here in Idaho!
Lets go, Samong got Mav on the channel. Hopefully you guys do more collabs.
Great video! Like to see the ups and downs of what we love to do. Keep up the good work!
Love your videos keep the grind!!! Would love to see more from this channel like more daily keep the grind tho 💪
Do a catch and cook sturgeon video?
Northwest has beautiful mountain views...I'd move there
If we are lucky enough to catch a keeper!
@@SamongOutdoors what's keeper size 70"
That was coo to see you guys together #mav #samong
How many lbs line is your pole Good fishing bro.
Love the sturgeon videos dude!
Glad you are enjoying them, Douglas! Thanks for watching!
Went to the spot you went on the Columbia a video ago. No luck. The water rose so much while we were there. I was using carp that I caught there as bait. Really hard to keep everything pinned down with such a crazy current. The pieces of bait I was using might have been too big but I tried to make them small. Any idea on something I could do in the future?
I would love to meet up and fish with you sometime. Maybe icefishing?
I fish in Fraser river in Canada, which is very similar to Columbia river and there are a lot of rock and snag at the bottom. So I want to try your method in order to reduce my chance of snagging. After many attempts, I have no success. How would you compare your method to ordinary sliding sinking and hook at the end of the leader? Any tips? Thanks. Btw, great video, simple and informative.
thank you for all the videos, they are great! I'm just getting into fishing like this. could you recommend a few areas to try I'm about two hours from there. it would be great if you could!!
Hey great fishing
Would you give a tip how to find a good place to fish for sturgeon on Roosevelt from the bank
Thx
Brother, from a cali fisherman. You should use the carolina rig..
Killer video bro too bad you snapped off on that first sturgeon looked like a good one
I arrived there after u left, managed to hook in to 8 but land 6. Closest sturgeon was 56 1/2" was such a heartbreaker. Biggest was 78 1/2, not to bad to end the season. But i will b ready for the next time around. Oh yeah i met you on the 4th of july remember? Well anyway keep the vids coming, i enjoy watching and sharing your videos
Yes, I do remember meeting you at 4th! That spot is a good spot, but it really has been a hit or miss for us so far. There's lots of fish in there though! Good catches!
Fun stuff bud
It was an awesome video 👏 I wish I could go sturgeon fishing
This out by Kettle Falls? I plan on heading that way next weekend.
Yes, the first spot was up there. Good luck!
How do you not have more subs your videos are always great
I love the video 😢always next time😊😊😊
I was hoping that you would explain what you consider a mistake and what you would or should have done differently. We all have to learn from ours or others mistakes.
That's great advice! I'll keep that in mind next time. On this trip, the mistakes were "basic" mistakes such as not double checking your knots and not adjusting the drag properly. Rookie mistakes yet crucial ones!
@@SamongOutdoors I was always told by people that knew a lot more than I, that you should never tighten down your drag while fighting a fish. A level wind reel, like what you are using, just place your thumb on the spool a bit to slow the fish down. I was told your drag is to tire the fish out, not winch him in. I really like your videos and the way you put them together. Is the wireless mic new? At first I thought that you were doing voice over then I saaw your mouth moving. LOL.
@@Makete100 Yeah, we just got greedy and tried to tire out the fish too fast... that's a big no-no when it comes to sturgeon fishing lol. But no, the audio that I am talking out of is just the Go Pro that I have mounted on my chest. I just sync the audio between my camera and my go pro!
Just subscribed! Where on the washington/Oregon border did you go? Bonneville dam?
We were a couple miles above the border in Washington, not on the actual border. My bad for the confusion! Thanks for the subscription!
Hey Samong. LOVE your videos. Best out there on Washington. Quick question...Are you catching your fresh bait at your sturgeon spots or just bringing with you? (Bluegill,Crappie etc.) Thanks
Thanks, Debby! It really depends. Sometimes, we catch our bait fish in the same body of water that we sturgeon fish and other times we will catch our bait fish in a different body of water. It solely depends on where we are going and how much time we have. We tend to just catch our bait fish at local lakes though.
Nice video. Just wondering where do you get the pickled squid bait?
We just buy it at our local outdoor stores.
You can also order at dgbait.net
Samong that video is in my back yard where you lost those over sized come back and get on my boat for a great day of sturgeon fishing we go get that one you lost!
What a fail! You forgot the sticky rice.
Mav 👊
He's awesome. 👊

It varies depending on what you buy. You can see the actual prices through this link wdfw.wa.gov/licenses/fishing/types-fees
Where’s this.. Alaska?
Washington.
What rods did u use?
We were all using Ugly Stik rods. The newest version which is the one I am using is listed in the description. Ugly Stik Big Water rod.
@@SamongOutdoors thank you
Why use a conventional reel over a spinning?
We use baitcasters because it better suits our style of sturgeon fishing. The biggest thing is our line that we run which is usually 40lb monofilament as baitcasters are more friendly with heavier line especially monofilament. We can also cast farther with baitcasters. We have nothing against spinning combos as we know several people who do well with them. Ultimately, it's just preference!
@@SamongOutdoors thanks for the response! When it comes down to reel is it really just all personal preference or does the line you use matter too? I've seen salt water fishermen that us lures from shore use a 5000 spinning and land giant fish, but they only use braided line.
@@miloflaze There's a couple factors as to why I choose to use a baitcaster, but one of the main reason really is just about the line. If I were to use braid as my main line, I would not hesitate to use a spinning set up. However, I just much prefer to use monofilament so baitcasting is the better choice for me. Another is casting. When casting heavy weights, a spinning set up with braid requires a casting glove of some sort so you won't cut your finger open. With baitcasting, I just have one less thing to forget at home when going sturgeon fishing! As I stated previously, baitcasting just better suits our style of fishing. This is all subjective, but I always tell people to use what works for them and not just use what we use! Hopefully this helps!
@@SamongOutdoors yes that helped clarify a lot and I appreciate your responses. I never knew that was the reason people use gloves while fishing. I thought it had something to with it but also thought it was just to keep your hands comfortable and not red. I understand your points though and thanks for responding
@@SamongOutdoors also I really like the content you put out, it's very appreciated because I am thinking about getting into sturgeon fishing!
