Wow, now we know why u r arguably one of the greatest trombonists ever. Your schedule and ur adhesiveness to it is quite impressive and inspirational . Props to Mr. Lindbergh
Hello Christian Lindberg, my name is Eliezer Marcos, I'm Brazilian and I've been playing the trombone for a few years, I want to tell you that I'm your fan and that I really admire your work, your technique, your Son Maravilhoso on the trombone. Here in Brazil and all over the world you are a great reference for all of us musicians. Congratulations on your work, congratulations on being an excellent professional and a great trombonist. More than 12 years ago I had the honor of seeing you up close in a presentation at the Santa Isabel theater in my city of Recife, state of Pernambuco, I will never forget those few good hours that you performed, thank you very much. May God always bless you.
I’m blown away, that’s a TON of precision! While I don’t carry my life with nearly that much consistency, I find it far more helpful to set my goals and routines on a weekly basis rather than a daily one, especially during the hectic life of a college student
Christian Lindberg that’s also brilliant! How does the Maestro keep track of all that? I’ve tried having a ‘to do list’ file on my computer but it can be difficult to stick to
Maestro Lindberg has a 5 year schedule in Excell with all his engagements marked in, and every day and week is marked in. First day of the week he marks in how the wokring schedule should look, and how much time he can devote to every thing he has to prepare. Great to have a to do list on the computer, and you should never punish yourself if it does not work. Best regards Hedvig (Maestro Lindberg´s project manager)
I love the fact that you're able to do all this in such a simple and easy way and still being an idol for many people (including me). You are a true role-model for not every Trombone player, but for every musician! I hope i can achieve such a peace of mind and professionalism like yours someday.
Mr. Lindberg, you are an absolute inspiration. In a way, it's not surprising that a musician as impactful as you would follow such a diligent schedule, but it is very meaningful to document it for the world! I watch this video every few months and pick up something new every time. Tack så mycket! 🎶
I just wanted to let you know that you have been an amazing inspiration to me. I started trombone practice about 22 years ago. I have most of your studio CDs and have been absolutely blown away at your mastery of the trombone and beautiful playing. Unfortunately, I stopped playing consistently about 13 years ago, but I still listen to your music on occasion. I did not realize how disciplined you are with your routine, and the amount of dedication you put to your craft until watching this video. However, it makes perfect sense upon watching, given your skill. Keep up the great work, and thank you for being such an inspiration to me and countless others.
Dear Jmastaaflex, what a wonderful message to receive! Yes, everything in life needs effort, and the discipline is necessary to reach artistic goals and visions. I hope you keep going, and finally want to give you a Dostojevskij quote: " Life is not about reaching the goal, it is about the road up until reaching the goal" Best of luck with everything!!
Thanks for sharing! First time I listen you was in Oslo about 1984. It was fantastic, tenor and alto trombone, nearly two hours concert. Fantastic! I hope you never stop playing the trombone.
Dear Christian you are a real workhorse, I now will also start with your about 24 minutes, in my jung ages I played and study'd trombone but got troubles because of my teeth on my upper lip, now after 40 years of intermission I started to play Flugelhorn and like it. Still have a lot to learn! Thanks for your inspiration! Armin
Thanks for sharing. Since you asked, here is my practice routine. 10am wake up. 11am. Tuning and fundamentals practice. 1hr of scales and études with metronome and drone. 12pm-8pm non-music work 9-11:30pm Playing through my parts for band. I alternate singing my part while playing on piano and then playing on trombone. 12am dinner and ear training - listening to my favorite trombonists.
My routine is haggard if I were to compare. My passion is my strong point and has yielded, with a lot of work, good results. I'm a salsa trombone player and R'n B and Jazz aspirant. To see a day in your life is quite a magnificent window into a real way to play at higher levels. I thank you. You're like a monk. At least in this video. We know that the internet has no bias for truth or deception, so always caveat emptor but I'm a believer in the case.
Very interesting video! Anyway, I think that it’s very very difficult to do EVERY of this things many days of the year. There are so much variables...! thanks for the video
Have been refining my routine, in order to optimize my output. This is what brought me here. Sure wish I had that Pool, Ocean, Sauna combo to knock the edge off during points in the day. Maybe one day.
I am impressed by how organized, efficient and effective your day is. My routine is not quite as structured although I make it a point to do 2 things every morning- 30 minutes of varied physical exercise (depending on the day) and 30 minutes of trombone practice. I do this between 5:30 and 6:30 am before I begin my day as a parent and an elementary school music teacher. In the afternoon/evening each day, I have varied responsibilities depending on the day, but I do try to get another 30 minutes of practice in. My wife and I have two groups that we are members of so we have one rehearsal on Tuesday evenings and one rehearsal on Sundays. I don't know that I could ever quite schedule my day as well as yours, but I appreciate seeing what you've done to be so good at what you do and hope to apply some of these ideas. Thank you! Mike
I have enjoyed watching your punctuality and discipline. Although for someone from Las Vegas, how does the midnight sun and polar nights affect your routine?
Hey Mr. Lindberg! Thanks for this impressive video. At first I thought it was meant to be a joke, but in the end I believed you :) Your are very fortunate to have this environment (and earned it, of course). Although some probably find your routine boring, I would do something exactly like that if I had the time :) Nevertheless, I also have some fitness-routines like you do. At the moment I´m feeling very good with 3x running/3x biking (with changing intervals and pulse mostly between 130-145, which is 75%-80% of my age-heartrate) on alternating days and doing a five-to-ten-minute miniature circuit training in the evening (pull-ups, sit-ups, weighted squats, pushups, combined biceps-curls/shoulder presses, each day starting with a different exercise and not till complete exhaustion) - I figured out that obviously there´s quick progress possible with this and increasing repetitions are an objective measurement it works well. Additionally, I´m doing some occasional yoga, mini-trampoline or stepper. Doing sports is essential for me as a person and also as a musician, but I noticed one has to be careful cause there´s a big effect on trombone playing and my "musician-routine-genes" are very dangerous for that, cause for my mental comfort I would love to do the same things every day, but then frequently tend to overtrain myself, which results in less good stamina and a less good sound on the trombone...I guess a "only half recharged battery" also shows on the lips and in ones breath :) In my everyday life, I have a life probably comparable to yours - only on a regional level and not international. My weekly things are conducting a protestant music school, teaching 25 brass students, playing concerts and doing TH-cam-Videos (not every week, though) and doing occasional compositions and arrangements. Also I´m having a family with two kids (6/3). All in all, that´s a lot to do and a lot of fun :) Sorry for this very detailed comment. You are (besides my love of music and my fascination for trombone playing) one of the big reasons I became a musician (and not a sports teacher, which I studied at first). Greetings, Michael
Im enjoying watching this video! This gives me motivation to put my day in order and to be more sucessfull in things i do.Im playing trombone too,im 16years old and this video is just motivation plus for me.Thank you!
incredible organization of time to do all about music this is the best way to do that we love, i am not the more organised because for me it's a little difficult to put the exactly time for doing excersice and practice trombone, but i try to keep in order this 2 things every day (all the day), excelent video to help me with that problem.
Nice routine I wish I could have one as same as yours unfortunately life is been too hard for me as making STOP do the most I love in life ( playing trombone) 😭 however I have to thank you for being my inspiration and at least keep dreaming that one day I can do what I love in life you're a great musician and love watching playing Regards Tiago Barbosa
Dear Laurindo, Thanks so much for this wonderful message. Just go for it! You only live once, so you might just take every chance to do what you really dream of doing! Best of luck!! Christian
Thank you for sharing so much years of experience in managing demanding and busy schedule ! This might well be the most inspirational pieces of advices I've seen in a long time ! Let's see how I can optimize my daily life with these ;-)
Maestro, I really gotta know this. Do you swim in the ocean every season or you switch that activity with something other during the winter?? 😅 you're my inspiration maestro, that's why I'm asking!
Hi Maestro Lindberg. Your discipline to this routine is beyond inspiring. One question about your 24 minute practice sessions - How do you balance repertoire you are working on with warming up/cooling down so that you don’t hurt yourself but still get adequate time to work on whatever you need to? Do your practice sessions break down further (such as 5 minute warm up, 17 minutes of rep, 1 minute cool down)? How do you manage your practice sessions to get the most out of them while staying healthy chop wise?
Dear Bobby, Thanks for your interesting questions! I actually only in the warmup, the first 24 minute session, care about the lip getting in shape. Once I have done that it tends to stay with me the rest of the day so that I can just concerntrate on what I need to do! I believe that it has become an addiction among brass playesr to warmup. My impression is that you only need it once, right in the morning before having palyed anytin else.
@@ChristianLindbergTrombone Hello Mr. Lindberg. I wonder what you mean by the fact that the warm-up has become an addiction among brass musicians? Regards Leif Lundmark
Holy crap you replied!!!! I play trombone myself and am a professional musician in NYC. Please check out some of my videos I have some up on youtube as well as the smalls jazz club archive.
Hi Christian, I Love to make my Routine which is choosen to my wonderful aims. In your Video it Looks like, that you only make your Routine to fixed times. 1. But what do you do when you for example have new great ideas for composing but the time for composing is over? Is it better in your experience to continue composing or to continue to the next routine? 2. How many 20 minutes Trombone practice sessions are most effectively every day? 3. Hiw often do you do these daily routines a week? (5 days a week or every second day?) Very nice Video and very inspiring! Thanks Coach! Max Weber (Trombone and Drums)
Dear Max thanks a lot for your nice message. 1. Actually the best is to stop and go to the next routine. Then I will be so thrilled coming back to it again, and I have never really forgotten about ideas or inspirational thoughts. Discipline in my opinion is the absolute best way to tease creativity!!! 2. At the moment I do 4-5 per day (24 minutes) but when I was 100% doing trombone career it could be up to 12-16 24 minute sessions per day. I would say 5-8 sessions is a good balance!! 3 I usually do it 3 days in a row, and then relax, but sometimes I have done it 9 days in a row. As I said in another answer below, 3 days of my daily routine is as effective as a full week without this carefully planned routine. However, it is very important not to do it every single day, because if you do you become a totally isolated creature without anything to tell humanly as an artist BEST OF LUCK!!! Christian
I do 30 min work blocks for my work as a mathematician. I also think about what to do when overtime. Usually i stop, but make one or two sentences of notes on my ‘’important’’ plans. Its so interesting to see others with similarly deliberate approaches to occupation.
Wow, this is very awesome! I think to much workout for me😂 but with that House the bath in the Ocean and in the pool is obligatory. I Think the routine is a little bit fragmented for me. I want to share you the routine that I try to do every day but without much persistente😅: I am a violinist and i’m studying in a conservatory so I wake up at 6.30 am, i go running and after i do a shower. After I have breakfast and when the conservatory open at 8.00 am i go practice for 1 half hour(only for scaes and arpeggios)…after sometimes i have some lessons and i usually finish the School day at 17.00 (clarely with launch break and some practice session alone) after i go to the gym and i workout for 1/1.30 hrs. After the 18 i usually don’t study because i make the dinner and watch some films or ski race (I love skiing). I go to bed at 22.30/23 with some reading session before. I am Italian so my English is not so good but i’d like to do an Erasmus experience so i have to improve my english. Thanks for have read the comment, i hope u like it🙂.
hello christian! verry nice routine! i play trombone for 3 years now and i don.t have a verry good high register. can you give me some tips for improving high register? thank you. (ps I.m 15 years old and i can get up to G - A)
I have a wonderful wife who makes lunch packages, for this, and also, but sometimes I also cook do it myself. The tea with bread and marmelade keeps me from feeling hungry.
Hi Christian, Do you do your Workout (in the Video 1:04 min) with a Metronom/Click. In your great Video I can hear it silently in the background. Thanks for your inspiration Coach! Best Max Weber
I remember a study that I thought said 26 minutes for optimum concentration, but I could have just mis remembered. Do you know which study says 24 minutes is the optimum practice time?
Very good question Benjamin...??... it was so long ago, in fact as far back as the 80s when I read about those things, so I can not remember the source. Maybe you are right??? I might even have shorten the session by two minutes to be absolutely sure, but I also remember that I felt I needed minimum 6 minutes for the brain to recover, and to start on equal half hours was practical. Interesting, I am going to search again for the source! Thanks for your interest Benjamin!!
That’s an incredible routine! I’m sure you get these questions often, but what mouthpiece do you use on your tenor? I’m thinking of purchasing your 4Cl. I think that you’re the best bone player, and I also don’t really believe in buzzing with the mouthpiece, lol, so I want to try to get an identical tone to yours. Keep doing great man!
Thanks a lot for your encouraging message. I play 4CL 98% of the time, it works almost for everything. If occationally I need a little darker sound I can switch to 2CL without any problem, and if I need more brightness, or better endurance in the high register I switch as easily to 5CL. But 4CL, YES! I can certainly recommend that! Best Christian
Whenever I have some days without concerts of rehearsal I go to this place and usually go 3-5 days in a row to do this routine. Sometimes I even do it up to 10 days in a row depending of how many pieces I have to prepare.
Thank you for the look into your life equally interesting as motivating. I am curious are you able to keep this strict a regiment when adding personal relationships such as a wife.
Hahaha!! Not at all! By nature I am a very emotional and intuitive human being, so my private life is extremely exciting and full of unexpected adventures. This is very much the reason for being so strict when I prepare for the concerts during the days alone at my mansion.
I looks super precise. But, if you have family, if you should go shopping food, to travel, to make office things... this is super if you are alone and works at home i think. what would be from a normal musician, who has to prepare hemself the food, travell to the place of work etc.?
I have a wonderful family and family life, 4 kids and 5 grandchildren, and this schedule is of course not something for EVERY DAY of your life!! The ideal solution is to use one day to prepare for, let´s say, a section of 5 days of this daily routine. In 5 days I then get more done than I would normally in a month! That means you can spend the gained time with your family and friends and really enjoy it fully!
@@ChristianLindbergTrombone Thanks so much for the response. It´s apleasure to receive a answer from you. You are a Legend. I try to do it like you, always sessions to 24 min, sometimes to 13 min or 9 min. But thanks a lot for share.
I don't hv a routine for my day but I do have a routine for trombone practices.... (like I finished that 5 hour routine then the rest of the day maybe being a slave inside my school (?))
Do you mean the 14 minute workout or the 24 minute practice session? I do 7 minutes of yoga and an app called 7 minute workout, and when practicing I usually plan it well in advance to decide exactly what I do each session depending on my concert schedule.
I also don’t practice 8 hrs a day. I play maybe 50-60 min a time and then do some other things in between. The time between sessions vary, but the latest gap is 13 yrs...😢 Need to attend to my Mercedes Bach II a little bit MORE I think. I have very bad patience, I listen to a good record or cd with maestro Lindberg or professor Landgren and if I can’t play exactly the way they play within 45 min I get mad...or fatigue. So I just Put on the record or cd again and enjoy them master the greatest instrument there ever was...after the piano. Maybe that 24 min thing is something I should start practice?
4CL is the mouthpiece that I developed together with my father in law over a period of 6 years, so I can highly recommend it!! You could also try the 5 CL which is a little easier to play in the high register, while 4CL is better in the low. Best of luck and thanks for nice compliments! Christian
Wow ! That's a great routine right here ! But is it really better than mine ? 7:30 : I wake up 7:35 : I wake up once more because I just missed the first alarm 7:36 : I realize that I still have depression and that everyone hate me for the terrible person that I am 7:37 : I cry 7:38 : I get back to bed for the rest of the day Now THIS is what I like to call a good day 👍
Warm up has become almost an adiction for musicians. I had it in the beginning of my study time and it destroyed my dpsciplin completely. I have only one warmup that takes 24 minutes, and I created it in 1980 when I was studying in London. Since then I never need to do any more warmup than that in a day. Best of luck trying it out!
I always start the day by playing on my cell phone until the battery dies - then I get out of bed.

HAHAHAHAA!! Great sense of humor!! I myself got it wrong the same way as you , until I understood I was fooling myself...best of luck!!!

@@ChristianLindbergTrombone Hello Mr. Lindberg. I wonder what you mean by the fact that the warm-up has become an addiction among brass musicians?
Regards Leif Lundmark
Brilliant!! I need to lift my game!
You remind me of old zorro and its possibly the best thing ever
this is AWESOME! You are inspirational.
Thanks Ben!
Holy crap you replied!!!! I play trombone myself and am a professional musician in NYC. Please check out some of my videos I have some up on youtube as well as the smalls jazz club archive.
That is a very organised schedule, I don’t think I could ever be so organised haha.
Very inspirational, thank you for the video.
Video molto interessante, perché spiega in modo chiaro tutto quello che si deve fare per diventare un musicista a tutti gli effetti.
You are number one, always.
(5 days a week or every second day?)
Very nice Video and very inspiring!
Christian
Wow, thanks a lot for these very helpful answers! I can't wait to check it out the next weeks!
Best Max Weber
I do 30 min work blocks for my work as a mathematician. I also think about what to do when overtime. Usually i stop, but make one or two sentences of notes on my ‘’important’’ plans.
Its so interesting to see others with similarly deliberate approaches to occupation.
This is remarkable!
Thanks!

Dear God!
I love you Christian! ❤ I am your fan. My name is Erika! I play the clarinet 😊
What is the bluish sleeve on the bell of your horn?
Seems great! Best of luck with your routine and your career!
Great!!
My favorite horn is a 72H. Have you ever played one? I play it more than my 88H in our wind ensemble.
Your morning swim was longer than my practice session before I watched this video.
hello christian! verry nice routine! i play trombone for 3 years now and i don.t have a verry good high register. can you give me some tips for improving high register? thank you. (ps I.m 15 years old and i can get up to G - A)
Incredible! Who makes your lunch? And get's the cheese? Isn't it hard to skip dinner after so much work-out in the afternoon?
I have a wonderful wife who makes lunch packages, for this, and also, but sometimes I also cook do it myself. The tea with bread and marmelade keeps me from feeling hungry.
Personally, Christian is the best trombonist in this world.
Great Composer!
Thanks a lot Alexandre!!
You're the best 😍
Hi Christian,
Do you do your Workout (in the Video 1:04 min) with a Metronom/Click.
What a dream. My routine is going to work or looking after my baby with my wife. I can hardly fit anything else in my life at the moment.
Thanks!
Best Christian
hi christian -- very inspiring! how many times a year do you get to do this intensive retreat and routine? or is it a monthly thing?
~billy jonas
Whenever I have some days without concerts of rehearsal I go to this place and usually go 3-5 days in a row to do this routine. Sometimes I even do it up to 10 days in a row depending of how many pieces I have to prepare.
Thanks!
Mmmm…when do you do the mundane things….shopping…cleaning…washing…ironing…repairing the bicycle puncture ?
Any advice on wine and beer pairings?
Greetings Mr. Lindberg, may I ask do you have this exact routine by minute every day? Thank you.
And inspiring
Hi Christian!
What excercises are you doing in the 20 minute workouts?
Greetings from Spain! We had dinner together a few years ago.
Do you mean the 14 minute workout or the 24 minute practice session? I do 7 minutes of yoga and an app called 7 minute workout, and when practicing I usually plan it well in advance to decide exactly what I do each session depending on my concert schedule.
too much relaxing time
What trombone do you play is it custom or like a 42 bo
I also don’t practice 8 hrs a day. I play maybe 50-60 min a time and then do some other things in between. The time between sessions vary, but the latest gap is 13 yrs...😢
Need to attend to my Mercedes Bach II a little bit MORE I think.
Do you recommend a 4cl or a 6.5 al mouthpiece for a tenor trombone? I love everything you do and keep up the great work!
4CL is the mouthpiece that I developed together with my father in law over a period of 6 years, so I can highly recommend it!! You could also try the 5 CL which is a little easier to play in the high register, while 4CL is better in the low. Best of luck and thanks for nice compliments! Christian
Christian Lindberg thank you!
When do you conduct? When do you preform?
You can find my complete schedule on this link: www.tarrodi.se/cl/index.asp?show=14
Wow ! That's a great routine right here ! But is it really better than mine ?
7:30 : I wake up
7:35 : I wake up once more because I just missed the first alarm
7:36 : I realize that I still have depression and that everyone hate me for the terrible person that I am
7:37 : I cry
7:38 : I get back to bed for the rest of the day
Now THIS is what I like to call a good day 👍
HAHAHA!! You are probably right! Cosy and warm in the bed, and you can dream a free schedule instead with lots of exciting activities!
I feel you.
Is it good swimming in cold water? Why?
How can you fit a lot of efficient practice in only 24 minutes? I usually take about half that time to warm up
Warm up has become almost an adiction for musicians. I had it in the beginning of my study time and it destroyed my dpsciplin completely. I have only one warmup that takes 24 minutes, and I created it in 1980 when I was studying in London. Since then I never need to do any more warmup than that in a day. Best of luck trying it out!
Sou um grande fan desse cara gostaria muito de ter uma pequena aula com ele
18:00 Czardas 👍
How long have you engaged in this particular routine?
I also Love to play trombone and Drink good vine from Austria ( "Grüner Veltliner, Zweigelt, Blaufränkisch......"🍷🇦🇹❤🎶🎼🎵)
LG from Austria 😁😂🤣
