    I’m a wallpaper hanger and artisan in Australia I make most of my own tools , glues stencils and paints. I absolutely love gold leaf especially with random sand texture. I like weird dualities, Symmetry and odd balances.

    There are abrasive fiberglass pens used on PCBs that can be useful for rubbing off stuff in small areas.

      yes, correct make-up brushes are good around £8.00 in most good chemists, But would not use steel wool to clean up, this will scratch the wood.

      @peterstevens7109 Actually a very fine steel wool (0000) is very soft. Over a finished surface, it produces a buffing effect like he mentioned.

    I liked this, in general, but I wish you’d given some details such as more information about sizes (why you’re using that type) and did you use loose leaf gold or transfer? I’m a bit familiar with reverse glass gilding, but would like to learn about gilding on wood.

      Seems likely, after all, it's extremely thin. Should spray on a layer of clear sealant to protect it if it's being touched a lot. This might affect the lustre though.

  • @BettyTheLion

    I scrolled thru the comments, and it doesn't look like you ever reply to questions. But in case you decide to: I notice that the leaf sheet has a lot of creases when you lay it down. And once you've finished the application, I can still see where some of them are. How can this be eliminated?

    • @chrischris7805
      @chrischris7805 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can dilute white glue with a bit of water. Chocolate milk consistency works best I find. Keeps it from cracking or shrinking when it dries.

    • @lass-inangeles7564
      @lass-inangeles7564 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This would be on the sizing can instructions which vary. Tackiness should be as little as office paper tape. Too much tackiness can be bad.

  • @TheMonkeygirl907

    What’s the sticky part? Can you just use any glue

    • @lass-inangeles7564
      @lass-inangeles7564 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends what you use the gold leaf on. In furniture and picture frames, you would use 'sizing' which is the name for the glue. After you use the sizing, let it get tacky very lightly, then foil. Let it dry. Brush clean. Then apply a microcrystalline wax or sealer coat like a very light spray varnish or lacquer. This finish coat prevents tarnishing of cheaper imitation gold leaf. Real gold leaf will not tarnish, but could use a sealer for handling.

    Very poor use of my time. Show us what you use for background paint, sizing glue, and put some links below text.
    You wasted half a sheet of real gold. Sad.
    If buying a blush brush does not affect your masculinity, why did you have to mention it?
    Of course it bothered you. That's why you brought it up.
    It does not affect my feminine side to shop at Home Depot. I feel quite proud of my power tool skills, so why do you think any man would care either? Men wear cosmetics, earrings, jewelry, and even dress like women.
