The last couple times we went it was closed, it was supposed to be open again now but not sure. There is also one across the lake called Jackson Island we have a video on… but not Jackson Lake Island where the goats and movie set is… that’s in Alabama

It cost 22.00 now to camp here... for people who aren't from rhea county and like half for people who are residence

It's a super nice place and amazing that it's free. The only slight bummer about it that I found was the train horn's all night long from across the lake in Spring City. It's better if you are on side by swimming area, the hill of the peninsula blocks sound, some. There are very few actual flat areas also.. at least on the peninsula. If this place is full, there is another free spot across the lake, called Jackson Island. Lots of flat there.. way less fancy.

We did a video there too. Last time I tried to go they were both closed but that was last summer. Are they open again?

I am so happy to find your channel! I grew up on Dayton Mtn. (Walden's Ridge) and didn't know about this place. Thanks so much! Now I need a generator!

This is my favorite free camping spot that I’ve found in TN so far. Unfortunately it will probably be closed now until the water comes up... but Jackson’s Island (I also have a video on) is just down the road and open all winter.

Generators destroy the peace. Try roughing it.

I do that too... love all kinds of camping, especially backpacking 5 miles out in the middle of nowhere. You should try it if you hadn’t. Glad you’re learning all the ways I love to camp!

This is so cool! I thought I recognized the name of Rhea. My grandma grew up in Sweetwater which isn't that far from there, and Rhea is all over my genealogy files on those lines.

The House That Never Slumbers that is neat. The only thing that’s not cool is they are now closed for the season. I called the phone number and it was the county executives office who only said it’s based on water levels “and stuff” but Had no idea when it opened back. “They just tell me when it’s closed but I guess it’ll probably be until Spring.

Oh, that stinks. I bet it's warm enough to camp in Tennessee most of the year, so that's too bad that they close it. I'm in Indiana where there are definitely parts of the year most people wouldn't want to camp.

Sounds like a neat place. Good descriptions of the campsite and campground. Sounds really busy.

I’ve only been there once but I’m always afraid there won’t be any spots, especially on a Friday. Luckily there are other areas close by

Problem is that it’s been closed down the last couple of years, there is another good place across the lake that’s free but had a little more suspicious activity called Jackson Island but it was also closed last year when I tried to go

As of 2023 it is not free anymore. However it's only $22 a night now

Yeah, I had a feeling that was going to happen m. What’s weird is I’ve heard nothing is really different. I figured when they converted it to a paid facility it would have reservations, dedicated sites, and probably electric

They had to start charging to try and keep the druggies and the homeless away. The homeless is curbed but the druggies still show up. Dont forget the rednecks that spend their entire time guzzling beer and shooting fireworks

  • @mom2kleeandemma
    @mom2kleeandemma ปีที่แล้ว

    It is no longer free

I saw that last weekend. You would think if they are going to charge they would make it an actual campground with sites and possibly electric/water

@Gimpy Camper yeah for 5 days that's over 100 and you should atleast get electric
