Triple Eight Bumsavers Review // aggressive inline skating

  • When I first got back into skating, I picked up a pair of Triple 8 Bumsavers just to be safe, but I'd never worn them. With the heat of the summer upon me in Tallahassee, I decided to take them for a test run at my local park.
    Verdict: They're pretty freakin sweet. Very comfortable, breathable, no sacrifice in maneuverability, and add a nice level of protection which, in turn, boosts confidence for going for new tricks.
    10/10 recommend if you're in need of crash pants.

    My partner wants me to join their derby team and I am 6' tall and scared of falling, but these feel like they'd really help me with my confidence/ let me avoid some painful falls. These look great!

      Thanks for the shorts, but mainly for the Hired Hands that I've put through some serious work! Those things have saved my hands/wrists more times than I'm comfortable admitting in public haha.

      I just busted my ass 20 minutes ago… been skating since the early 90’s and let me tell you it’s not like riding a bike as I launched myself down my driveway and landed on my ass before I could even use my Jeep to hold onto it at least slow me down. Right on my bum of course… I have every pad but the bum. Helmet, wrist, elbow and knee. What is the best bum saver you got!!! I don’t care what it looks like because until I get my balance and stride back, I have no shame and I’ve taken my share of spills, broken bones and stitches. Safety is so cool now… but there are so many Chinese brand pads on Amazon and I don’t trust the reviews

    hip injuries are nothing compared to tail bone slams. thats my main concern and should be alot of you alls because i slammed last week skateboarding a concrete bowl and i couldnt even get up for a half hour.than i had to walk an hour to the subway switch to the el and take a bus. all this could have been avoided if i had these on.except for the ride home

    I have broken my tailbone 9 times. Ordered a pair today. I don’t want to refresh my memory of what that feels like. I swear sometimes I randomly feel the pain of a broken bum when I almost fall.

      NINE TIMES?!? Oh my, I can’t even imagine the pain of having to relive that so many times. Unreal. Smart idea grabbing a pair of these, they’ve literally saved my ass more times than I can count

    • @Annelyelizzy
      @Annelyelizzy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matt Burke yup. Not all from skating. But mostly, yes. So when I found out these existed I hopped on it ASAP! I stayed off skates for a while because my dr told me if I broke it again they may have to remove it or refuse it to my spine. No thank you. I’ll just cushion my tooshin. 😂

    I'm looking to get into inline skating and think I'll get some of these. I'm similarly skinny like you so if I fall back, it's straight to the bone.

    Very nice review man! I've just started skating some transitions and trying to hit coping grinds and my hips have been taking a bashing. Been looking into something like this and i think I'm gonna pull the trigger on it now. Also a little tip for your Fakie Drop-ins, I know it sounds scary as hell and completely unnatural, but lean backwards into your drop in. Think of your body as needing to be in a 90 degree angle with the ramp at all times. So when your dropping from the coping lean back into that "danger zone" that your body doesn't want to let you go to, Keep those knees bent, and you will come out the other side on wheels instead of your ass haha. Cheers man! Keep up the great content.

    • @MattBurke820
      @MattBurke820  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for checking out the video, glad it helped you pull that trigger a little hah.
      As for the fakie drop in, I CAN NOT drop back! Haha. My brain throws a big NOPE at my body and I just can not do it.
      I think I may not be ready for it quite yet, but what you’re saying absolutely makes sense if I were not as scared as I am of it haha

    Just got a pair for myself for my birthday and waiting for them to come in. The amount of times a Mizou stall has gone wrong my skate hits my tailbone 🥲
    It's good to know that they're breathable, I'll probably throw some pants over them though just to be safe.

      Haha I bet they would get ripped up pretty quick if this was their normal use! They didn’t tear from the few falls I took, but if I wear them again I’ll have some sort of shorts or pants on

    I too invested in a pair. I quite like them, I fell straight down on my ass like a baby about 10 days ago and I'd probably be much more sore if I hadn't been wearing them.

    • @MattBurke820
      @MattBurke820  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh man, falling on your ass is one of the WORST feelings. I have no ass, so any time I fall like that it's a straight shot to the tailbone and it sucks so bad haha.
      I'm probably going to wear them a lot more once I start skating transition a little more heavily. They're super comfortable for how padded they are.

  • @SunshineMatt
    @SunshineMatt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does your park have any smaller quarter pipes or mini half pipes than what you are riding? You look like you are not committing to dropping back in fakie in the bowl which is probably why you are struggling. Getting some practice coming off of coping on a smaller quarter or half pipe should help build your confidence to do it in the bowl.
    You have a good variety of grinds on the bench for being back a few months. I am jealous

    • @MattBurke820
      @MattBurke820  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthew Ginsberg man, this park only has quarters the size I’m skating and bigger which is part of my frustration haha. I’ve skated a park in the Tampa area with smaller halfpipes and was dropping in fakie just fine, but at my park, I just can’t commit like you said. Driving me craaaazy!
      I LOVE that bench! It’s become my favorite thing to hit at the park.
      Hopefully one of these days I’ll commit to the drop in and not get hurt haha

    • @SunshineMatt
      @SunshineMatt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattBurke820 good luck. I am not great at fakie either. My parks all have smaller half pipes to practice on, which helps get the confidence up. You were able to hit the rail with 1 foot and go back in fakie so you have the ability. Just need more practice and confidence

  • @RageForSeven
    @RageForSeven 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    i look like a power ranger when i do any sports, so i can vouch for the added peace of mind. about the struggle (is real for sho) you are having to go back fakie from your royale, couldn't be because you are slightly too high up the transition, which means that when you get onto the coping you are arching "out" of the pipe? (caveat, i can't do this so i maybe am talking out of my ass). What about trying to hit the coping a little bit earlier so your weight is still in the transition rather than completely above? thanks for the uploads, always great to watch

    • @MattBurke820
      @MattBurke820  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      haha the power ranger analogy caught me off guard... I *think* what a lot of my problem is, is that I'm just straight up scared of dropping backwards from that height haha. I've tried both of the ways you've mentioned and neither one of them really work for me. Either I'm too on top of it or too on the side of it, I have yet to find a happy medium to roll with... and it's driving me CRAZY haha.
      As far as the talking out of your ass aspect of things, I'm in that same boat right with ya hah. I'm so new to this whole transition game that I'm just throwing guesses around and hoping something sticks and makes sense.
      Thanks for checking out my videos, it means a ton!

    • @RageForSeven
      @RageForSeven 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MattBurke820 no probs, kudos given where kudos is due. so you can do your royale and drop back in "normally" rather than fakie?

    So far I’m not seeing you’re qualified to review these Lol. Now me, got my first pair of blades today since the early 90’s… when I played roller hockey with no pads or helmet. But damn these blades are way better and FASTER than what we had as kids. But I was proud to don my pussy pads today. So here I go screaming down my driveway at 41 yrs old with a purpose and I busted my old ass before I could make it to my Jeep!! I have the JBM pads and helmet… but I forgot the BUM SAVERS! Of course I busted my ass, but only fell once in the first minute of my 20 minute session. Tomorrow is a new day…
