  • This is not an original idea..(Please see the channel info below). My main innovation was the construction of the "Zipper" friction attachment. I also show how I position it and the process I follow on the new Garrett AT Propointer.
The origin of the pull tie idea. I am not sure if the TH-camr originated this procedure but it is where I got the initial idea.

Mate, I loved watching this video of yours.
I’m a 73 year old cowboy in Australia and I am thinking about getting into this stuff to pass my time these days.
    Thanks for showing this video.

I would love to detect in Australia the gold detecting seems fun. Of course I wouldn’t expect success but the fun is in the lottery potential of success. There are some potential gold hunting areas in the US but access is almost impossible and success is beyond rare.

Duct tape, Zip ties, and Bailing wire. Everyone should keep these items. There's not much that can't be fixed using one of them. Great video.

Diggin Arkansas Yep, you and I grew up in the same kind of Area...Arkansas and Texas have a lot of similarities full of people who either don't have the money or won't spend the money on things they can do themselves even if it's a little patchwork.

Only one tip the garrett has three types of depth just hold the power button and the light will stay on after press once and it will be the first function and then the second until Get to the third time it's the deepest maybe four inches or more

Just my own personal preference but, I don't see the point. I can get really close to the smallest of targets with my AT Pro, and only rarely use my pin-pointer. I keep it set on the lowest sensitivity setting as I want it to get as close to target as possible before detecting it. I think that by raising the sensitivity (depth) you're defeating the purpose of pin-pointing... Like I said, just my own personal preference.

+John McDermott It's all personal preference. I like enough depth so a first dig may give me enough accuracy to make the next step more of a probe and pry..but that's my choice not necessarily the right choice.

hi from bc canada nice vid i am getting a garrett at pro pinpointer thanks for the tip ever use it for small nuggets thanks mickey miner

Actually for small nuggets your best choice is probably going to be a pulse pin pointer and even they have issues with the smallest. Now the Garret will work, but you need to make sure to turn it on and ground balance it (place it in the soil while you turn it on) in the usually heavily mineralized soil where you will find nuggets.. If you use a pulse pin pointer that step is not actually required.

Or you could just use the built in depth settings that the pro pointer comes with, and save the zip ties for other things.

+Ray Pullen (imlords007) I will mod a toothpick...It may not be wise, but its like dropping a V8 engine in ancient Hatchback (which I would love to do as well)...It doesn't need to make sense in Nike Terms You Just Do It!! I have six or seven other pinpointers of various depths, but I will still do it...a mental illness.. possibly.. (maybe even probably) :D
