I'm with you, dude! I've been doing the music on youtube thing for about 3 years myself and you are spot on about the experience. I swear I thought I was great before I started, and then youtube humbled me down and made me think the worst things about me. Then it got better and better even though so many times I couldn't even see how that would be possible. If you keep doing what you like, there are moments in times when something clicks and works. Yes, I am also part of the '75 takes per video' club, but at the same time, I realize I take so many takes also because I am harsh with myself. Let's say I pick a final take, and I am disappointed with it. But let a few days pass and I listen to it again and I am thinking I did such a great job. You start seeing from the audience perspective and realize they will appreciate so much more than you imagine. So I always keep in mind what somebody once told me, which is - stop chasing the perfect take. Maybe that will make you a little more carefree, and the more carefree you are, the more soul you put in it, and that's what people actually feel. Keep on musicing man!
@@thazvoo what a great comment! thanks for the wise words my friend! i actually sat down yesterday to try and film that video again and was somewhat satisfied after three takes, so hopefully it’ll sound great to me today hah! have a great day, and keep on playing!
Hey Eli. I understand your frustration. It can be quite overwhelming to get the "perfect take", whatever that might look like. I've learnt that the pressure to perform for social media is quite demanding, however, the right people will enjoy what you put out and what matters is that you are enjoying it. It might not come out perfect, but thats the beauty of music. Music is an expression of the human experience and no human experience is perfect. Surprisingly, the most impactful moments are the imperfect ones. I wish you all the best in your future youtube career! You got this! Much love from South Africa
Eli I admire your awesome talent, but I think your heart and determination will take your talent to ever higher levels. You have the talent so don’t give up. Even the most experienced folks mess up! Getting knocked down is easy, takes courage to get back up and go again. You got that too!
So proud to watch you grow as a musician, creator and one of the best humans on the planet! Great honest video that’s very encouraging and insightful. ❤
Keep on keeping on Eli, you have inspired a lot of people (me included) to keep going and learning to play something that was always a dream to play. You are good at playing that guitar. I have watched your progress from the start and up to now. It takes a lot of effort and banging your head to learn. Hang in there, you got this!
Hey man, thanks for being true and honest, you're not awkward - you're being genuine. It's tough sometimes. Yes, you can't play what you want right now and yes, you need to practice more to be able to play it, maybe a lot more. But don't beat yourself over it, don't let it take away the fun out of the things you love. Perfect is cool but pursuing it can be a thief of joy. It's my struggle as well but we gotta tell ourselves that it's okay. You're worth it and you're doing great!
Dude, I understand. Just the other day, I made a vocal recording in GarageBand, which is a program for recording music, to post on TH-cam,and it was a rare quiet time in my house. I almost had the whole thing done: harmony, guitar, everything, but then I went to save it so that I could work on it later and I hit "Don't Save" and lost the whole thing. All that work that I had done just disappeared and I was so discouraged so I waited until the next day and did the whole thing again. I don't know if that relates a lot but I just wanted to share the experience because I understand messing up over and over and over again and what people don't see that's behind the final TH-cam video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and I really like your videos 👍🏼
@@lidiya19 i completely understand. there’s been videos lost forever either because i can’t or won’t get through it or can’t edit it just right. and yes i’ve also deleted lots of work by accident too 😭 thanks for watching lidiya!
honestly experienced this in gaming, I keep seeing so many good CS and Valorant players and thought I'd prolly never be that good at the game, and the amount of pain and frustration I had trying to improve at the game taught me a lot of valuable lessons I can apply in real life, I managed to be pretty damn good reaching a decent rank, and performing pretty well, but over time I just couldnt improve anymore, and I guess that reminded me of your experience, maybe if just practice more consistently at a good mood, instead of forcing it to happen usually helps, so i guess that can help you? idk you do you man, thanks for making me reflect, i dont do this much so yeah.
@@andrxid9548 absolutely. to start, shorts views are always radically different, and the change of getting good views or it flopping is always 50/50. with long form videos, if it’s quality content, you can get consistent views, whether it’s thousands or hundreds, every single time. shorts also gain very VERY few subscribers, and there are almost NO returning viewers on shorts. i’d recommend 3-7 minute long form videos until at least 50 subs, and then shorts can be good, but not all the time. of course, i can be proven wrong and your shorts could absolutely explode on every video, but the chances are slim. thanks for commenting!

Any advice as to why starting with shorts is a bad idea when starting on TH-cam?
