      Its a hula technique called fa'arapu and requires alot of practicece

    • @kilipaki87oritahiti
      @kilipaki87oritahiti 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      ambrosia1111 It's neither Hula nor a Hula technique. Fa'arapu is one of the basic steps in Ori Tahiti aka Tahitian dancing...

    • @dachaoskitty7163

      It's similar to a shimmy in Middle Eastern dancing, but DAMN they do it fast!

      @maneatehaamoana1836 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hula and Ori Tahiti aren't the same thing "te fa'arapu" is in tahitian language, which is different from Hawaii language please don't make it confusing if U don't know what you are talking about please don't say anything...also it is the tahitian drumming!!! I'm from Tahiti

    • @dachaoskitty7163
      @dachaoskitty7163 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The other one isn't supposed to be "authentic," it's "inspired by"... inspired pieces don't always keep close to the source material. A Knight's Tale, for example... hardly reflects the actual Canterbury Tales. The poster for the Exorcist was inspired by, but hardly lifted directly from, The Empire of Lights by Rene Magritte.
      It looked like modern dance, some hip-hop moves, arranged in such a way that I can see the "inspiration," but it did no favors... and just wasn't a very good dance at all.

    Now now now let me fill all you people in about this the drumming here is cook islands drumming not samoan now if you people don't know where the cook islands is google it we are Polynesian just like Tonga Samoa Tahiti Hawaii we all Polynesians and the dancing its a mix of Tahitian, Hawaiian an also a little bit of Samoan in there the picture you see is my misis this her account Polynesian power woop woop

    • @lorileegill2182
      @lorileegill2182 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent descriptions of Cook island drumming. I assumed when Moana was presented it was from Hawaii perspective, so excited to see it told from the Polynesian perspective instead very inclusive to true to history.

    • @kilipaki87oritahiti
      @kilipaki87oritahiti 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sophie Ge Now now now this is Tahitian drumming not Kuki. Easy to hear the difference tho similar. Why sre you trying to claim this as your own when it's clearly a fusion done for the movie? Nonosina is a famous Tahitian dance group in CA, run by the Liufau family. Tiana and her brother Mevina (Melvin) who is in Japan directing his group there, likes to mix in modern elements as well as other Polynesian dances with Ori. Her partner Mika who is the dancer in this clip is Kanaka Maoli and won Miss Hula not that long ago.

    • @johnnystrickland9204

      Gille87 don't be a scientist now Sophie is right and as a cook islander drummer myself and for many years do your homework before assuming anything I know cook island drumming and music when I hear it yes it is a blend of all the Polynesian cultures but the drumming is kuki straight alright if you don't believe me come to the cook islands yourself see and hear it for yourself no bullshit mate

    • @johnnystrickland9204
      @johnnystrickland9204 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lorilee gill I'll have to disagree with you moana was not created from a hawaii perspective but a Polynesian perspective native hawaiians do not have the pe'a tattoos worn by males that come from a chiefly line of village chiefs it is a Samoan tradition so don't assume if you don't know our Polynesian cultures

      @xavianstarsider9654 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They both take place in Hawaii and both use traditional island dance, but in L&S most of the dancing was done by children and not nearly this intricate. The art styles of the movies also differ greatly.

    • @fingerntheasstypeniga6697
      @fingerntheasstypeniga6697 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      +Xavian Starsider - Lilo and Stitch took place in Hawaii while Moana isn't specifically from one island but all of the Polynesian islands. The directors say it took inspiration mainly from the South Pacific islands.

    • @kilipaki87oritahiti
      @kilipaki87oritahiti 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      mauiboy8705 Lol what? It's only in Tahiti, Hawai'i and the Cook Island they move their hips like that. And twerking is shaking your butt using your legs/thighs and lower back, Fa'arapu which this movement is called is done by using your stomach and shifting of the knees. Ask any black person and they would probaply say otherwise of it not being rooted in culture. Thousands of years? Nah. Kukis didn't Fa'arapu until recently and now they basically dance like Tahitians even though they will deny this. Inferior syndrome. In Hawai'i the Hula is similar, but not done fast as in Ori. What people see at any Hawai'ian Lua thinking is Hula is actually Ori Tahiti. Ori has evolved a lot since pre colonial times and still is. They didn't dance like this thousands of years ago.

      @kilipaki87oritahiti 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jayde Kinkaid Yup it's not a competition nor a performance per say, but a demonstration. Don't see the problem. Usually with Ori Tahiti they dance in pareu only anyway, depending on the theme or if a aparima they may wear a hei or a More skirt. The costume should always depict the theme.
