G-d gave His covenant to His people. Halfway through, He withdraws His hand from the covenant. There were three sections of the scroll, there are three temples, one yet to be built. The man stopped reading the scroll in the second half of the second temple period, when God removed His hand. This is the word of the Lord.
The rebbes interpretation was correct, in reference to the sanctuary.
