I agree with a lot of the other commenters: use warm soapy water in the sink, would be great for someone with arthritic hands, and way overpriced. One thing you didn't go over in your review was how difficult is it to clean the food grime off if the gadget? And are there replacement parts available? Even sponges wear out over time and get smelly.

I was thinking that as well about having replaceable brushes, same for the rechargeable battery as well, or you are looking at some overpriced e-waste. Most people are just better off with a dish rag, a normal $1 dish brush, and scrub pads, or just using their dishwasher which uses less water, and is better for most things for people with arthritic hands, and/or other minor disabilities.

The energy expended holding this up while using your other hand to load and also hold cutlery, while also taking longer to wash each item, means for me, this would actually hurt my back and hands more than washing by hand. Don't let plates sit around for any amount of time.

Most plates take a few swipes with a cloth and a rinse, and this thing seems to take forever to fiddle around with to get things in place. Then it still isn't totally clean and needs more rinsing.

Right. I could hand wash 4/5 plates, or more, in the time it takes to wash that one. Also it's a waste of water to continuously run it like that. Another thing is soap. Just rinsing dishes in plain water isn't getting them really clean.

I have read some comments here about this device being a great help to those with hand mobility issues like arthritis. Well if you notice, you'd still have to place the dishes properly on that device and that is just as challenging if you have dexterity issues. Add to that the fact you need to hold that device with the added weight of the plates under running water for several seconds or even longer depending on how tough it is to remove stains or grease etc. Water wastage and burning less calories are freebies.

There's a Japanese guy's channel here on YT that reviewed this. You're not supposed to jam the plate too deep inside (which is why your edge wasn't reached) AFAICT. You also have to lift the upper jaw open and run the spoon etc. from the side directly between the roller sponges when cleaning utensils. You stuck it at an odd angle which wasn't right so it got caught in the plastic and torque. He also trickled some dishwashing liquid on the stuff to wash since it's basically an automatic dish scrubber/sponge.

This gadget seems like it was a school project designed by a kid forced to do the dishes at home. And I'm guessing kids would be the ones who would get the most joy out of using it. I'd use it a few times, then say, "Forget it...where's my sponge?". Oh...wait...I have a dishwasher!! 😁

Thank you for reviewing this! I work with the developmentally disabled community and I could see this dish device really helping some disabled folks to have more independence. So cool an adaptive device that only requires one hand to do dishes! Also it’s a more fun way to hand wash dishes which could help motivate some of my clients to do their dishes more often if it’s a more fun activity as well. Like ppl with ADHD might benefit from how this almost makes dishes enjoyable to do. I’m all for making mundane tasks easier or more fun.

the problem I have is that, then I would feel the need to wash the dishes again afterwards because there is no way that brush is sanitary lmao. i mean I guess it would be nice in a pinch if I had a ton of washing up to do, but I'd rather just use a dish washer since that's just a better version of this

Is it really that useful though? I don't actually see any benefit to this over hand washing. Those brushes will need to be replaced over time, I have massive doubts whether that will be easy/cheap or replacements will be easily found. For the disabled? It still needs 2 hand operation to load a plate in and grip strength to hold the thing. So that's not all that useful for them. It has size limitations meaning you'll still be handwashing pots and pans and bigger plates.

@@Midori_Ringo Yes, I believe it really is that useful. Humongous benefit over hand washing. The vast majority of people's dishes are plates and bowls, so it's not really a niche product. As for replacing brushes, yeah, they'll need to be replaced eventually, but the problem with that theory is, so will every other dish brush you ever buy. There is no such thing as a total silver bullet, so expecting this product or any other product to last forever and do every single job perfectly is silly. Also, I'm not sure why everyone seems to think every product needs to cater to the disabled, maybe that's just a feature of today's PC society? I'm really not sure. People don't get upset when Ford ships a truck without controls for the disabled, why does every other product need to be? I think too many people with dishwashers forget that there is still a huge portion of the population that must wash dishes by hand. This would be extremely useful in a dorm, camper, RV, studio apartment, etc. Not hard to see how this would be useful to them. We don't need every single product to serve 100% of the population.

Expand your mind just a little bit and realize not everyone has the ability to live in the luxury you do. You're going to sit there and call the people who use this product 'lazy asses'? What about all the people with dishwashers, who literally have to just press a button to have ALL their dishes washed? Who's got an axe to grind again? Lmfaooo
I believe you in fact are missing the point about brushes. While you prattle on about landfills, you're also contributing to those landfills with your garbage hand brushes too. So really, it's a wash. Because even though there may be no replacement brushes for this, you're gonna have to drag your happy ass down to the store every month (at least) to replace whatever dollar store garbage brushes you bought the month prior, so get the fuck outta here with your climate conscious piety lol. Consumption is consumption.
As for the silver bullet idea, nice try, but no cigar lol. Your shitty $2 Dawn brush will absolutely NOT be able to wash every single dish you have. James there’s this stuff called dishwashing liquid you might look into it. the fact that you did these tests of the caked on material using no soap? come on I think just a couple of drops would’ve yielded far better results. That said, with me there is only one substance to truly test the mettle with any dishwashing aid, and that is dried on, over easy, egg yolk. if It can get that off it’s a winner. As for the “it’s a thing the majority of people out there don’t need“… there are people like me who absolutely HATE doing dishes, and anything to make it go by quicker and easier, what can I say? I also think that it can be quite the water saving device, and as I stated, you add just a little bit of dish soap into the mix, and you’ve definitely got a winner.

This honestly seems like a product you would buy from Wish. At $60 though, it is definitely a luxury item. I think he didn't use warm, soapy water because he wanted to follow the directions he was given to see if it would work that way. I'm sure he knows it would work better with soap and warm water, but if the manufacturer's instructions just say to use regular water, then they are claiming it will work with regular water.

One con that you didn't mention is being forced to apply hand pressure to hold the unit closed the entire time. Carpal tunnel is a real thing. If you wish to clean a lot of plates, hand fatigue would grow quickly. The unit should have been designed in reverse, instead to remain closed. Instead, the hand lever opens the unit up to insert the dish, then release the lever to close the unit around the dish. You only need to hold the unit to wash the dish. Thus, this reversed lever design change would immediately eliminate the hand pressure fatigue problem when washing a lot of dishes. Though, it might require a locking mechanism so you don't accidentally press the lever while washing.

It seems to me that a $2 brush and some soapy water would do just as well and maybe even faster. I can then put my dirty brush in the dishwasher and sanitize it. With this device I see 3 problems. First, the ridiculous cost. Second, how the #*?! do you clean and sanitize it? Third, where in the world do you store it? Great review, James, but I’ll pass on this one.

I don’t really see why anyone would want to use this except that it seemed like a fun toy.

To me, this gadget is just a novelty. It’s may be fun to try it out. But when comes to day-to-day use, a simple sponge is much faster. This gadget still requires 2 hands. Also, you haven’t tried to wash glasses and cups yet. Now, if this device can wash 2 or 3 dishes/bowls at the same time, it would be helpful. Remember, after you wash all your dishes, then you have to wash this device, too.
