Many people specially from the Western world confuse the differences between hot chillis and spices. Species are known for their aroma but not necessarily as hot as chillis with expectation of black pepper. For example, cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, turmeric, cloves, carry leaves, coriander seeds, bay leaves ....etc are all family of spices that are not hot but rather used for food flavouring especialy in Asia and Africa.
Yes, coming from the western part. All my life spicy means too many flavors in a plate. But as I lived in Asia, they usually would attribute chili to spicy. I’m like not necessarily, chili 🌶️ is just hot, not necessarily spicy.
