    I have never watched a gramophone play before. Learned something. That big record for one song.

    This is truly the most beautiful thing I’ve seen in such a while! The moment I heard the man’s voice sing, I could feel my eyes tear up, never have I been so overwhelmed with emotions. I love it so much!

    Works like a standup player. We have one of those. I didn't know these kind of record players existed for the military. Cool.

    Sounds like you might need to rebuild the reproducer, it has a rattle sound to it.

    • @WW2JeepandRifle
      @WW2JeepandRifle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      You are very right. I disassembled this reproducer, and it has a foil diaphragm which was in quite good shape. The rubber seals were all good and not too stiff. The rattle sound went away when I removed the perforated shield/cover. Rattle came back when I reattached the cover. Got a nice warm sound by just snugging the screws that hold the cover on -- not overtightening them. Thanks a million for the pointer!

    great demonstration i live in western Australia i have two portable gramophone / phonograph machines along with a floor and table models you mentioned that you change the needle after 8 plays in reality you have to change the needle after one side because the soundbox / repoducer is heavy and will dig and carve up the records I'm one to believe that your portable is a burch or phonola modle portable outfitted for the American army the gramophone company in England made there vesion which was a modified version of hmv 102 that's all i know of that anyway great demonstration very interesting and informative cheers James

    Hi there, great old army grammophone! My grandfather who was technical engineer at the tank force of the German Wehrmacht (inspected Tiger Tanks and field repairshops at the easternfront) had this player here, installed in a former spare parts box for Henschel tanks, this is one of his swing records he listened to during WW2: th-cam.com/video/J2LHuFG66sk/w-d-xo.html

  • @junichiyorose7121

    I thought this video again, but isn't the iron needle worn out? If you listen to both sides of the record with a single needle and make it up to two, I think that you can listen comfortably.

    It is better to leave the handle attached to the mainspring. If the rotation becomes loose on the way, you can help by winding the mainspring.

    now that's something to behold! regular Phonographs? sure. but Actual WW2 field ones? Now THAT is really rare! The only thing that would have made this coolest is if you had V-Discs on it. V-Discs were WW2 records that were given out to the troops from 1943 to 1949. Also, your supposed to switch the needles out after every 2 records.

    hello I owe one similar to your gramophone , looks exactly the same but I don't know the model or what the army designation is. Also was looking for the video you did mention regarding disassemble and maintenance have you made it ?

  • @ellenmel202
    @ellenmel202 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I just bought one very similar to this and I love it. I'm not sure though if maybe there's something wrong. When I use the brake to stop it from turning, it makes a sort of scraping noise. Do you think it's doing any damage?

    • @WW2JeepandRifle
      @WW2JeepandRifle  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The brake is literally a leather pad on a metal arm that runs on the inside rim of the turn table. The scraping sound may indicate the leather is long gone and you may have metal on metal. Take the turntable off and see if you may need to glue a small square of leather to the brake arm.

      Your motor box may need lubricating. If you're up to it, try disassembling and giving the bearings and gears a cleaning and oiling. See th-cam.com/video/y4MFYWAzZVE/w-d-xo.html for a demonstration of the teardown.

    I have a problem with my grafonola viva tonal model 205 and I was wondering if someone could help me ? The hole in the soundbox is to big for it to fit perfectly on the tonearm, is it possible that I have the wrong soundbox ? I'm new to this and I bought my grafonola on an auction site so any help is greatly appreciated.
