    I stumbled across your videos and let me say there awesome. I'm normally into off road RC and giant scale aerobatic planes, but now i find myself making my own plans for a 1/8 scale hydro. the last month I've been breathing eating and sleeping 1/8 scale hydro. so basically, what I'm saying is you inspired me to build a boat that normally just thought they were cool. I live in Oregon and would love to come up and watch some races some time and maybe join the club at some point. keep up the great videos.

    Hi Scott, re: making a remark on tube install vid. I have found using ptfe inner tube for flex cable working a charm. This tube found inside pneumatic high temp pipes. I rely on ptfe's natural lube, no lube added. Running like this for past 5 years with no probs, using zenoah 26cc in cat hull. Very nice vids you give. Thx Baie ZA.

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's interesting. I've used Teflon lined tubes before but still had to grease it to avoid failure. The ones I had used had a very thin liner... Are you using a thicker liner? I also wonder if rpm has something to do with it. Nitros turn 28k+ rpm but most gassers are less than half that.
      Thanks again for the idea. I'll think on it!

      Scott, my gas boat only peaks at +-18k rpm. Have not tested higher rpm. Must admit that it feels naturaly slipperly to the touch. If we had to pull both ends it would slip out of hands. Tube comes with s/steal braided outer when bought which I then remove. Greetings Basie

    SO, Location ofthe turn fin and the rudder. In talking to Scott Pierce, having the rudder on the opposite side from the turn fin will set the fin harder when it starts turning. He said when he was with The Bud, they figured that out.
    At least that's what Scotty told me.

      @M5PerfHydros  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think I agree, though it's a subject that has tortured my brain for quite some time. Someday I'm going to build a setup that will allow me to adjust the rudder side to side quickly so that I can do some back to back testing

    Sharpen a nail to a needle point similar in size to the drill your are going to use to drill the pilot hole , it will go will never split the plywood or any wood used, and as a bonus you will not need to drill your fingers ever again .It works on the hardest of wood types with moderate pressure , a bit more on rock maple , drilling 1/8 ply is like going through a notebook page .

    • @M5PerfHydros
      @M5PerfHydros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean it should be heated to burn through, or cut the head off and use the nail as a drill?

      My turn fin and rudder brackets are 1/8" 7075 aluminum angle that I square up on the mill. Most of the angle stock is less than 90° between the legs, which irritates me by the way, so I press the parts to 90 before drilling. Is this what you were wondering about?

      Mmmmm, yes I suppose that's true on some level, but I think it's getting better. The 10th scale electric classes as an example are pretty darn cheap. A guy should be able to have a very competitive 10th scale for about the cost of just the motor for a nitro boat.
