I have loved this movie since I was 5 years old, and my mother took me to see it during it's original cinematic release. Why am I just finding THIS, many many years later?
One of the greatest movie scores of all time!!! This rich and very sophisticated score by Howard blake fit the classic movie Flash gordon perfectly! And this incredible Flash gordon suite illustrates that from beginning to end!!!!
Love how this magnificent Flash gordon suite ended with the magnificent cue by Howard blake on the scene where the front of the spacecraft went right through Ming! Howard composed an electrifying score for Flash gordon and still rings true today!!!
Why do I feel that Howard Blake would perfect for Final Fantasy? Even if he was just conducting or arranging the existing stuff (like if he did re-visions of FF6's music), I imagine he'd still make a great spin out of that.
I don't know of any other soundtracks by this great composer but i do know he composed a dynamic score for the classic Flash gordon movie! I've always been a much bigger fan of the score Howard blake composed for this film than the soundtrack queen did for this film. Not to say i don't like the soundtrack queen did cause i do and i consider an extreme pleasure to own both the soundtrack album by queen and the score by Howard blake! Great score by Howard and so glad to own this masterpiece by him on cd as before the soundtrack by queen was the only piece of music from the film Flash gordon that i owned for a long time.
@Yul Johnson Howard Blake's score to "Amityville 3D" is amazing(which I am sure you know since it's on the same promo CD as his score for "Flash Gordon"[HBCD 01]). It really compliments Lalo Schifrin's two scores for the two previous films in the series. Also, do you know the correct chronological order of Howard Blake's score and Queen's soundtrack? I am trying to make a "complete score" playlist for "Flash Gordon". Thanks.
@OnafetsEnovap Yes, I bought that soundtrack back in the '80s and it irked me that there were only two Bernstein tunes on the whole album. Today they're all available. For free. On TH-cam, among other platforms. We live in magical times. I used to complain a lot in the 1980s.
Ok, I hope someone can help me. I want to make a playlist on my iPod by combining Howard Blake's score(an actual silver colored, factory pressed CD with 18 tracks released by Super Tracks as a promotional use only, HBCD 01. Also contains his fantastic score to "Amityville 3-D", 8 tracks)and Queen's soundtrack CD to "Flash Gordon". Does anyone know the correct order of combining the score and soundtrack?
Is this what you're referring to? www.discogs.com/Howard-Blake-Flash-Gordon-Amityville-3D-Original-Orchestral-Score-From-The-Motion-Picture/release/3520550
@@sj_harris Thanks for the help. But I actually have the Howard Blake promo CD(HBCD 01)and the Queen soundtrack CD(HR-61200-2). So, I was trying to figure out how to combine the Howard Blake score and Queen soundtrack in correct movie chronological order to form a complete "Flash Gordon" score/soundtrack playlist.
Ah I see! Then I’m not so sure... does the impending 40th anniversary release list them in this order I wonder? From what I could tell it’s an odd and possibly superfluous amalgamation of the soundtrack and score (couldn’t tell if there was much of any previously unobtainable music on there)... Good luck!
@@sj_harris I really don't know if the 40th anniversary release has anything like that. Oh well, I'll just have to figure out something. Thanks again, my friend.

Flash Gordon is as cool as the other side of the pillow❤
The music by Queen and Howard Blake’s score complement the film perfectly!

I hear ya buddy. Just stumpled upon this now. I thought Queen had made the entire soundtrack and couldn't find these amazing tracks.
I can't seem to find that heroic theme moment where Barin and Flash make amends and shake hands. Always enjoyed that cue.
A wonderful score. Very John Barry-esque.
Outstanding. I love the QUEEN music but I also loved the non-QUEEN music in the score. I am glad to see most of it here.

Takes me back to 1981 when I first saw this FANTASTIC film.

Fantastic post, thank you, Howard Blake i think is very underrated.
In deed.
Great Soundtrack, thx for posting this !
Grand, very rare soundtrack. Thanks for posting!

His other big success is The Snowman. Beautiful score...
I'm going to have to look that up, can't wait to hear it. Thanks.

Thank you for this, I could never find this anywhere!

Thank you for this !
What irks me is that they didn't add the brass bit at the end, as Ming is impaled (which can be heard in the movie), on the Queen soundtrack release.

Anywhere I can get the full soundtrack? Love Princess Aura's entrance theme.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤
