    Hello! I'm the Commodore of Fairhope Yacht Club and I am so glad we could provide you safe harbor and hospitality for a few days. Glad you got to visit but sorry about the circumstances. Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures and how things are going. Please look us up again in your future travels.

      Hi Phillip! Thank you so much for commenting! We had an incredible stay at your club. Everyone, was so nice and helpful. Your club is in such a beautiful setting and all the members we met were so kind to us. What a great place! We hope to be back to visit someday. One of our favorite stops(other than the accident) so far on the Loop! Best to you all!

    Hey guys just want to say y’all did a great with this situation. Remember this about tugs they put out a prop blast down to about 40 feet and kick stuff off the bottom, so try not to pass on the outside of a turn when passing if you can. Good luck we really enjoy your videos.

      Thank you so much! I am so glad you said this. We also noticed making the video, it appears to be right where a huge logging facility is operating....Lesson learned for sure! Thank you :)

    OMG….. every boaters biggest fears! First of all, we are happy you made it safely! Second, I know that there is no way either of us would have been able to record any footage while under stress like you were! We would have been looking, listening and feeling the boats every move and motion. Third…. You had both of us in tears with the radio call when entering Mobile Bay! The response from the other vessels was amazing and made us feel safe and protected.
    There has never been a TH-cam video that has hit our emotion like you just did. We look forward to following your adventures and will keep our fingers crossed for a safe journey for the rest of your trip.

I hope that others who watch this learn something by the manner you stayed composed, and safely got to port. My hope for you both is that the damage is minimal, and can easily be repaired. Not a fun day, but I have no doubt you will persevere. Some boat humor... When I was 18 and cruising on my Dad's 33' Chris Craft cabin cruiser on Peoria Lake in Illinois, Dad told me to throw out the anchor which I did. A short time later while Dad was sitting in his chair and was enjoying a cold drink he noticed we were drifting and hollered "did you tie up the anchor?" I said "No". He said "Why the h*** not?" I said "You didn't tell me too." We recovered the anchor thankfully and I guess we will call that my first boating lesson.

      GREAT STORY! Thank you for sharing. I will share a good one....years ago on our 24' Regal, we had just put the boat back in the water after repairing an engine that sucked someone's trash in to the intake, on our shake down cruise we tangled in a rope. I climbed in to the frigid Lake Michigan waters cursing people who liter in the lake! Only to trace the rope up under the boat to my own bow! hahaha! The anchor clip had broken and we had spilled out all our rode. Embarrassing! Thanks for the great comment!

    Sounds very difficult when all that is happening . Glad you guys were ok . I would think you have to be prepared on a 6000 mile journey that eventually you will hit something or run aground . Your boat and crew seemed to be prepared for this . All you can hope for is that there wasn’t to much damage . Safe travels .

      Thank you Dave. You are correct, you almost have to expect something....in fact several boats traveling down the rivers bumped something, with different degrees of damage. Most river impacts result in retuning a prop, usually done by a diver. Ours unfortunately was a little more serious. Thank you for the nice comment and for following along!

    Don't know how your channel popped up in my YT feed but glad to see you safely made it to Fairhope. Although most of my boating has been coastal cruising on a SV out of Panama City FL and inland lake power boating on Lake Martin AL, I can only imagine the stress and the tension of that transit. Y'all really deserved a few relaxing days/evenings at the Grand Hotel in Fairhope. Following along to see how Fairhope treated y'all.

    The only cruising I have ever done is overnight cruises from Montgomery, Alabama on a pontoon boat on the Alabama, Coosa, and Tallapoosa Rivers.
    Rivers seem to have a lot of junk in the water, at times.
    In floods, I have seen trees (with and without tops), branches, telephone poles, dead cows, and, once, an electric stove.
    They were all headed downstream in the current. It seems the current just scours stuff from the riverbank and sends it on.
    I'm sorry you had such a horrendous event in the Tombigbee, way down here in Alabama.
    I'm glad you got past it all after spending so much time at Orange Beach.
    I have seen every episode from this one up to the bad weather at Norman's Cay.
    i have subrscribed, and I hope now I can watch your future episodes as they occur.
    Thank you for making such an intesting presentation.

    My wife and I live on the banks of the Tombigbee River roughly seven miles north of the Coffeville Lock in a community of camps on the West side of the river. We are truly sorry to hear of your troubles. However everyone in our community has a problem that we encounter almost daily and that problem is Yatchs! I would say that at least 75% of the Yatchs that pass our homes do so at wide open throttle showing no respect for our docks, piers or the boats that we might have tied up to these docks. Even though the fist statement in the Alabama boaters book states that no one should operate a vessel in a manner that will cause damage to another vessel or personal property, we can’t seem to get any help with the problem from the state level. I personally have had boats damaged while tied up to my dock by passing Yatchs. So if you are one of the 25% that slow down and show respect then I am truly sorry for the troubles that you encountered. If you are part of the other 75%, well………………

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I am so sorry to hear this, and we definitely saw boaters NOT slow down at all for the houses and docks. You could just see how their wake affected the homeowners and boats. Hopefully something will change! Thank you for sharing this! :)

      Well, if we slowed down to idle speed, we took on more water. So we shared our emergency status going through Mobile Bay so all of the barges and such new why we were going faster than normal. They all responded with "get her home son" and other supportive comments. Thank you for watching :)

    Looks like a fairly newer boat yet there still aren’t any systems to prevent or attenuate these occurrences. I saw a 50’ yacht coming into a Lake Huron port. The owner had given the pilot the day off. The owner takes the buoy on the wrong side and $20,000 bronze prop looks like a pretzel. I forget the bottom line on the adventure , diver, remove prop, take to Bay City (about 80 miles away), bring back, call diver, install prop, inspect shaft, insurance calls owner and tells him he’s not allowed to pilot the boat until he gets a CG certification. Big deal in a town of 200 people in late summer.

      Thank you for the great comment! I agree, I feel like some kind of forward facing sonar may have helped??...maybe not. Sometimes it is just luck. Oh man, so sorry for you guys!!! Gotta be a stressful situation but looks like you handled it like champs. Boats can be fixed, glad you’re safe. Was curious as to what your speed was when you hit. We will be looping soon in a similar boat and would be helpful to understand.

    These types of boats should have stern drives .. easier to maintain and you can get get the prop out of the water Quickly ..i wouldn't be able to enjoy myself knowing the props are exposed to the bottom......great presentation

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Kenneth...and excellent point. This is our first boat with exposed shaft, rudder, and props. When she is out of the water and I look at the running gear I think the same thing. It seems really vulnerable. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      We have lots of video of cruising in most of our episodes. Check them out! This episode has some cruising video, but as you can imagine...it was a REALLY bad day....we did not film much of the trip that day, we were worried about other things. Thanks for following along! :)

    I would recommend slowing down to 7 or 8 knots and enjoying the trip, why hurry?Probably you would have been able to see what you hit at a slower speed.

      Depending on moon not much visibility on the river. Q Beam a necessity. Logs floating down river fairly common.

      Thanks Mark, but absolutely not true. Appreciate the input anyway. We were probably going about 7 or 8 knots at the time...saw nothing.
      Everyone has their way to do the loop and we have a certain way we need to do this trip to make it work for us. We appreciate your understanding and support on that. and we support you doing your loop as slow as you want and any way you want.
      Thanks!

      We were fourth in line of 4 vessels. A USCG vessel had the lead. It was dark, we were using spotlights for about 1/2 mile to enter the lock. By the time we left the lock it was daylight. With good visibility.

      Hahaha! Thanks William...I agree! why would he leave us?! ... In all seriousness, It was actually well coordinated. We were in touch on the radio the whole time and he was only a 1/2 mile/ mile or so ahead most of the time. It wasn't until Mobile Bay that he made the safe call to get himself to safe harbor and prepare to help us land. By then we were being monitored by the USCG. Thanks for watching!

      @@cruisingandromeda Things go like that sometimes. One thing goes wrong and all kinds of seemingly unrelated things also fail at the same time! A case of "when it rains, it pours!" I hope that your damage was not severe. I had a 70 foot long river going houseboat that we ran on the Ohio River out of Cincinnati. I was always worried that something would damage the running gear with all the crap that floats down a river.

    • @cruisingandromeda
      @cruisingandromeda  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is how it was! Just when you think you "got it" something always pops up! lol Thank you for watching and sharing!
      We were in awe of the houseboats we saw! Being from Michigan, I had never seen them. What a fun way to travel! :)

    We know what you went through. Same thing for us a few years ago with a Grand Haven dredging operation. No pun intended, but worst sinking feeling we have ever had on a boat. But following your Facebook, sounds like all is good and exciting times continue. You are good people with a very nice boat. We wish you both the best boating has to offer on the Loop. ♥️⚓️🚤

      Thank you David! You are correct...it is a gut punch...I would think most boaters have had some kind of event and experienced that "sinking feeling". I hope your repairs went well. Thanks for sharing and thank you for watching!
