I am a mild mannered 55 year old retired mathematician, accountant and actuary. I know nothing about this kind of thing, I let my mechanic deal with it. But I have to say though I've never pressed the like button and this is the first comment I've made, I have watched every vlog on this channel from day one. It is just bloody marvellous. Brilliant. An absolute tour de force. I just sit with a nice gin and tonic or pint of bitter and chortle inside and on occasion belly laugh out loud much to my long suffering wife's annoyance. Truly great stuff and an utter joy to watch and listen to. Roll on Monday. And next Wednesday. Oh and Friday too!
The more I watch these videos, the more I'm convinced that you two are Penn & Teller of the car salvage world. What you do with broken vehicles is amazing. 🧙♂️🧙♂️
Vantastic work as usual from Chris on that side panel. Surprised you didn't fill the spray gun with fly killer 😊 This will be a nice unit when it's finished. Stay safe and well Cheers, Bob
I used to be a furniture restorer, was a nightmare with dining tables in summer when you got a fly or wasp on your nicely sprayed finish then it would try to escape and leave a big line
If you and Chris ever fall out can I adopt him? Blokes a living legend talented in all areas very few old school all rounders left. If someone resurfaced the titanic he would have it back working within a week. You two really are a good team I enjoy the updates and content. 🍻
I just swatted a big flying bug on the pc monitor in the dark & it got squashed on the screen just before they appeared lol. I remember when i sprayed a car once outside, just finished and a big fly landed on the roof and stuck there. My bro was laughing hysterically & my blood was boiling lol. Nice going so far there rob & chris.
Polish remaining paintwork with 3m fast cut and green mop head panel wipe first that will get rid of livery marks then just standard polish . Used this method when refurbin Northgate vans Works a treat
Hi Rob, The last 3 weeks, Copart prices have gone through the roof again! People are bidding near retail money + Copart's ever increasing fees! I'd stick to finishing off some of your other projects for a while Rob, until prices start to settle down... Soon I hope! I try and buy 3 cars a week but I haven't seen anything worth buying for 4 weeks! Crafter is looking great 👍
Hi bud, yeh I can’t believe the prices lately, my son and I have been looking for a Vw up to do but the prices have been more than straight cars for sale on eBay /autotrader. I can’t see how people are repairing them and still turning a profit. Crazy times. Take care mate.
@@michaelpalmer6864 It's baffling isn't it! You only have to look on Facebook Marketplace and it's full off damaged (poorly) repaired cars being sold for more that lower mileage, non salvage examples! Every Muppet and his dog are playing at being a car dealer at the moment! Long-term it can't be sustainable for them and they will learn the hard way... Unfortunately they're messing up the salvage prices in the meantime! Strangely one of the last Copart cars I bought at the right price was a 2016 VW UP. It's all repaired now and will be up for sale in the next couple of days 👍🏻
Enjoying this one rob and Chris, been around painting a long time, a plug in u.v fly zapper about 30 quid , keeps them away at key times, and commercials are the way to go in bad times. Keep up the good work lads !
A beer and salvage rebuilds on a Friday. Another good job guys. Hope you have a nice relaxing weekend! Looking forward to next week already! Take care lads.
I’ve used a can of cheap deodorant or flammable aerosol like a flame thrower to burn the flies and midges out of the air. It does work but isn’t an especially safe thing to be doing but it will work lol. The van is coming on really well all the projects do.
Rob, sometimes midges are attracted by the smell of the paint an solvants, I found this out when I used to do SMART repairs. The way I found to counteract this was to use the heat gun which drys the paint and will fly away if you point it at them. Loving the perfection, looks like a thorough job not a slight touch up.
Tar spots come off easily with a little splash of white spirit on a rag. Could be used inside on hard plastics too, but necessary to clean it away with lots of soap and water for the smell. Just cheap diy shop stuff for paint brushes is fine.
Just started work have to watch it over weekend have great weekend Rob and Chris as always really enjoy your channel as always big thumbs up for channel 🤗
Chris has made the body work look so good and will hopefully result in a very good profit for you and let’s hope it sells quickly and you get what you want for it
"I'll stop waffling on", those famous words. 😅 But I think I speak for everyone in saying it's not a bad thing, it shows your knowledge and passion for what you do and we love to hear from you! Keep up the top notch work :)
Evening Rob. Well Chris is becoming the hero in these videos lol 😆 Your both absolutely brilliant and honest in making interesting videos for us to relax to and watch 😄 Cheers as always Stevie 😎
Like a pair of magicians , brilliant job, I'm enjoying the vans but they are taking a lot of man hours ! Need a few quid back to make them worth it. But then they are Veedubs, always a premium price. One thing I had been really interested n was the Kangoo camper, see it sitting in the yard growing moss. Great project, even if you only throw a jump package In the back with some electrics it should be a money spinner. Keep at it.
I once sprayed a Triumph GT6 in Mimosa (yellow). As soon as I laid the final coat (cellulose) a cloud of ladybirds came and landed on the paint. I had to just leave it and in a couple of days later brush them off, leaving little legs stuck in the paint. Eventually T cut sorted it out though the little dots could be seen if you looked very closely indeed. Very frustrating but there was absolutely nothing that could be done. Surprisingly they did not flap around all over the place, they were probably overcome by the fumes (which were rather nice).
Nice one rob nice one Chris. Any chance you could both give some docu on your backgrounds of your experience and how you both came into contact. Love the shows, I always watch and it should be on tv, although I feel it's better with yours and Chris's input rather than some clueless producer. 👍👍👍👍👍
I get midges above the cess pit at the bottom of the garden which was shut down 40 years ago. Somewhere on your yard or property there will be the remnants i e a square hole in the ground signifying that a cesspit was there

Amen brother! 👍🏼
Thank you 👍
A retired mathematician enjoying the channel - don’t worry mate it all adds up 😇👍
@@iainfthat just made me choke on my cheese and pickle sandwich. It's OK though as the coughing fit was stifled with a good glug of gin and tonic!

I used to be a furniture restorer, was a nightmare with dining tables in summer when you got a fly or wasp on your nicely sprayed finish then it would try to escape and leave a big line
And they say you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear 🤔 certainly brought that van back to life!!

One of the positives of it getting colder is the number of flying insects usually reduces. Have a good weekend!
