if only filipinos will try to understand their own rich culture instead of wasting their energy throwing rude comments around. thanks to those who tried to enlighten us with some bits of invaluable info about this dance.
Awesome...World class performance. I wish I could see these performances of Leyte Dance Theater in person. I've seen Bayanihan several times here in US, but this group is different. I hope I could see them if they would do a World Tour.
There's also a Kalinga Gangsa/gong dance, Warrior dance with some similarity to other Cordillera ethnic group, but with slight difference in steps, ethnic attire designs.
This is indeed a world class performance! I hope they visit Canada too sometime. Filipino dancers here are mostly amateurs. Some of them don't even know what they're dancing. It's really demeaning sometimes to other nationalities.
The big jar is called "tadyaw" or "tibur" or "dulay". These are water jars. Mountain stones are placed inside these jars to "cool" the water inside. Yop, they look like the old burial jars of our ancestors.
aaa295 ya,i think i've seen tht dance troupe here in switzerland last august. they were fascinating! they can balance "8" real pots.oooh too heavy! Their poise is remarkable in capturing the style of the fascinating variety of dances with which their country abounds. and they sing really good too!
OMG I could have sword the banga are plastic. I am in shock when they took them off on top of each other. the degree of difficulty in this dance is pretty high. and the big ones look heavy gosh!!!
@smoochymae this is not a dance of the Ifugaos because this dance is originally from kalinga province and yes they can be considered both as a folk and ethnic dance
very good performance.. i know u'r theater group.. all the performances posted here are relatively folkdance.. ok lang naman sana na lagyan ng new touch ung folkdance pero dapat e preserved parin ung authentic.. much better sana if u used different costumes hindi ung authentic since ang gusto nyong iarating ay inovation..
sir i need your help!! yung klase namin ay sasayawin itong banga dance, kaso hindi ko po mahanap yung lyrics ng kanta nito,, anu po ba ang title? Maraming salamat po, more power and god bless!!
The inspiration of this dance is NOT IFUGAO. THe "labba" baskets, the "silanbituon" blankets and the pattern of the stripes and the bead and shell ornaments on the skirt is UNMISTAKABLY KALINGGA. You can call the authentic version of the Banga dance both as a "folk" and "ethnic" dance. No problem.
good interpretation and choreography! originality wise good! but sad to say authenticity is quite questionable.also the song. kalinga people will not be appy about this. sorry
mahirap na pag nakita to ng mga tao kung san nag originate ung dance... para kasing nawalan na sila ng identity... its not bad supporting FILIPINO artist but i believed na mas matutulongan un pag preservation ang epopromote..lets be sensitive..
