I think this scene is inspired by The Simpsons' debate scene, in "Trash of the Titans" - *SPOILER ALERT* - A title character and a guest supporting character are at a podium, debating topics, and running for an election for a controlling role in the town i.e. Beverly and Homer. - The title character is coming up with nonsensical arguments to justify her statements, but is dominating the debate with their bravado and charisma. - The opponent is struggling to compete with the title character's nonsense for some reason i.e. Beverly throws whatever her opponent says back in his face with a nonsensical retort, and Homer is winning over the crowd with his charisma and jokes. - It appears the title character has won the debate at the end for some reason i.e. Beverly is in control of what's happening as friends are viewing the debate on her TV, and she turns it off after apparently dominating, and Homer actually wins his debate in a landslide.
I just about cried laughing when Beverly spoofed Control to Comptrol. 😂
