The sad thing is that european countries west of Russia could be autonomous, if they would just start working together. Europe west of Russia has all the natural ressources they need to build a closed system that doesn't depend on imports. But as allways noone wants to give up anything for the greater good and instead looks for their own national and personal benefits first, especially those people in power.
@@blackbeard00 Most people count Russia as a european country, as the so called european continent stretches to the ural mountains. That's why I worded it this way. And yes. The EU + bitish isles + Norway + Swiss has all the natural ressources you need to maintain the current manufacturing and lifestyle. The ressources are just not exrtracted for various reasons, most usually environmental aspects. Just look at all the metals and rare earth in fennoscandia that lies there allmost untouched. Oil and gas is plenty in the north sea, if you actually wanted to get them. Wind, solar and water alone could satisfy most energy-needs, if you actually built a pan-european energy-system worth the name. Solar in southern europe, wind and water in northern europe. Food is also not a problem to begin with, if it's only for the european population. So yes. Europe has all the ressources needed to decouple from the rest of the world, just as much as northern america can.
Interesting and informative presentation and Q&A. Very impressive. What emerges from the talk is the clear intent on the part of the loyal servants of the US liberal hegemonic empire to continually reproduce its US model in Europe. Just like the now fatally flawed neoliberal project, the push for a new project based on the centrality of Capital, corporate & finance interests is seen by the likes of Ashbrook and the army of NED funded NGOs in Europe as a complete social and cultural project as well as an economic one. In the end its a re-run of the 90s / 00s..... re-educate your labor force and make them more flexible! Give private capital the freedom to lead. Haven't we heard all that before! In true cold war liberal form, it is particularly impressive how they manage to weave some favorite US liberal talking points such as gender / female workforce participation, refugee crisis, China attacking Taiwan, a "modern and free" Ukraine, and even a bit of victimhood...."I grew up on US military bases under bomb threats"... into the narrative to make the resetting of the Capital order more palatable. The fact that Ashbrook references Victoria Nuland in the context of maximizing influence tells you all you need to know about these people. No wonder Germans are nostalgic for the Germany of the 70s.
If your business model is dependent on access to oil and gas, you might want to consider the economic consequences of turning it off.

West of Russia? There is no Europe east of Russia? Also Europe definitely does not have the resources needed for its industries.
