I made the mistake of showing this to a kid I was baby sitting and I never got the VHS back. The kid loved it and for this I felt like kicking myself, the anime itself is highly creative and fun. I enjoyed it

This movie feels like a weird fusion of The Cat Returns, and The Troll In The Central Park.

It always felt more similar to The Chronicles Of Narnia to me.

"We all have that one anime we watched as a very young kid and didn't know it was an anime till years later" me with every anime I ever watched on Nick Jr.

I would've fallen in love with this film as a kid. Hell, I'm already falling in love with this as an adult.

Yes, I had that one anime I watched as a kid and had no idea it was an anime until years later. It was "Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind," but it was billed as "Warriors of the Wind" and edited down by roughly a third of its original time. Still, that was my introduction to anime, and I love it still to this day.

Part of me wonders if they planned this to be a start of a larger media franchise because to me a lot of the film (like how they handled the villains and some of the world building) would fit nicely in a episodic TV series format.

I loved this movie as a kid (it definitely needs more recognition). And there was so much lore and background story to be explored that was only hinted at. This movie could have easily led into a sequel anime series. That's probably what they were planning to do, which is why so much wasn't addressed and/or only hinted at.

I actually found the VHS years ago in a now defunct dept. chain called Bradlees. I remember seeing the trailer on my Sailor Moon R movie vhs and liking the song. My sister and I loved this movie so much, and I still have it today.

0:37 That's so true. I can still remember watching Unico and the Island of Magic, Puss in Boots and Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind or "Warriors of the Wind" as it was first known in the states, just to name a few. Not to mention Belle and Sebastian, The Little Prince and The Mysterious Cities of Gold
    on Nickelodeon.

Seeing this in your videos prompted me to watch this movie before watching your review, and I'm glad I did! This is the kind of weirdness we would've loved to see in my anime club back in college. Thanks for bringing this movie to my attention!

I bought the DVD years ago (when it was still affordable), when I was tracking down what each key people behind Akira did after....... Akira. Tree of Palme and Fantastic Children were also acquired by me for that reason (no regrets whatsoever).

I Remember there was a trailer for this anime that was stuck on my VHS Copy of the Sailor Moon R Movie (The other trailer I remember on that VHS was Dog of Flanders.) I was intrigued by the art style combined with the Japanese song that accompanied it. I Remember seeing the DVD for it at a grocery store of all places as a young kid, and I'm forever bummed that I didn't pick it up, because that DVD goes for INSANE amounts of money on the secondhand market.

My Earliest Childhood Anime( that I had no clue was anime) was Sabans Grim Fairy Tales, Maya the Bee and Voltron. All I knew was those princesses were exceptionally beautiful( more than the Disney ones I was overexposed too) and I fell in love with them! ❤

I saw the trailer myself like others. This film looks pretty good despite its flaws (although _The Cat Returns_ is better, and I'm sure if Miyazaki or Ghibli had worked on it they would have ironed the flaws out), but is it just me, or does Buburina look like she was also inspired by Madame Medusa from _The Rescuers?_ That's who comes to mind to me looking at her facial expressions (and holy cow, Noriko also voiced Satsuki in _My Neighbor Totoro_ and Jean in _Nadia: The Secret Blue Water_ as well!). 🤨
9:08 Missed the opportunity of the 🐱pun. 😹

This is probably the weakest of Nakamura’s anime. Palme and Fantastic Children, I consider to be masterpieces. I feel since this was his directorial debut, Nakamura was limited in what he could do. There’s a lot of cool ideas and elements that could work (many of which you mention) but he either didn’t have the budget or control to do what he wanted. I do strongly recommend checking out his other anime. They are great

Excellent to hear! Word about Fantastic Children though: avoid the dub. It was outsourced to Singapore and is absolutely dreadful. Palme’s dub is pretty good, though.

    • @KaiserBeamz

That might be because Takashi Nakamura did character designs and background art for that anime.

The trailer on my Sailor Moon R tape scared the living shit out of me. And where in the actual fuck did they pull the name "Banipal Witt" from? It's like "Beanpole!!! ...What?!" Also, Chu-chu low key looks like Bulma's badly-drawn fursona.

I think I witnessed a review that is 100% fair, and almost perfect.
Would be completely perfect, if it didn't spoil all of the story. Because a review is supposed to entice you to watch the thing yourself. Reviews these days are almost always retrospectives or analys......sis....ses. I blame Nostalgia Critic.

"Because a review is supposed to entice you to watch the thing yourself"
As a person living under his parents who doesn't have the freedom to do/buy whatever he sees on a whim, I prefer to disagree. I can appreciate an analytical video that takes me on a tour of something I'd have never known of without making me feel like I'm missing out. Though, it should be their responsibility to clarify beforehand how much of the experience they reveal.
